    PSP Custom Firmware 3.51 M33 Released

    BlackKnight
    By BlackKnight,

    Here it is- the first 3.51-based Custom Firmware;

    Some Russian coders going by the name Team M33 have released PSP firmware CFW v3.51 M33, to the delight of PSP owners everywhere. This pretty much means more homebrew for more people.

    All of the functions the v3.51 firmware have been retained in this release including PS1 support, high video resolution, MP3 visualizer, and Internet navigation. You can also expect to be able to launch official UMDS which require v3.51 firmware which is pretty good considering the sizable libraries some people have collected. For those who want more, the firmware also allows direct launching of ISOs/CSOs, homebrews, and PS1 images.

    Here are some of the other features you might want to know:

    * Ability to alter the CPU speed of the PSP

    * Recovery mode

    * Multi-region

    * Customize all your icons and more

    The instructions for installation are in a file called readme.en which you can open using any text-file editor. If you're doing this for the first time, please be careful since custom firmware could possibly brick your PSP, so remember to read the instructions completely and follow it to the letter. That said, enjoy the PSP firmware CFW v3.51 M33.

    Remember M33 is new on the scene so whether you want to trust them and install this is upto you. Bear in mind, as with all flashing apps there is a real risk of BRICKING YOUR PSP when using this, so be careful.

    Considering the 3.51 firmware is of a vastly different arrangement than 3.40, making this CFW was no easy task. Could the PSP scene have found itself a new Dark_AleX?

    Silent Hill: The Arcade Location Test

    BlackKnight
    By BlackKnight,

    In case you didn't know, Konami is developing a light-gun arcade version of Silent Hill titled Silent Hill: The Arcade which is due for a Q3 2007 release. A location test unit turned up in Hollywood Bowl Finchley in the UK, and is going to remain there for a couple of weeks.

    The loose plot of the game involves a ghost ship sighting on Toluca Lake, 75 years after its mysterious disappearance. It so far looks to be based most closely on Silent Hill 2, featuring a number of the enemies exclusive to that game, including the straight-jacketed creatures, dogs, the now-obligatory Brookhaven nurses, and, of course, Pyramid Head.

    Oh, and here are some gameplay vids, courtesy of Arcade Heroes;

    Source and some screenshots.

    I'm on a light-gun high at the moment, and as a long-time Silent Hill fan, I'm just loving this. Here's hoping against hope for a PS2 port.

    PSPUAE 0.63 released

    Robert
    By Robert,

    Amiga emulator for the PSP

    We have released a new version of PSPUAE (Amiga Emulator for PSP), changes / improvements are listed below.

    Why the BE, simple, its exactly 1 year ago since pspuae.com started. So as to celebrate this fact, we decided to name it 0.63BE for Birthday Edition.

    Also, with the recent memory increase. There will be some big states uploaded that were made for this version. 1 of the largest being 10.5 Megs.

    V0.63 BE - FOL, GnoStiC, cmf update

    - Removed alot of un-needed code, to gain usable memory (GnoStiC and cmf)

    - Optimized code to gain speed (GnoStiC)

    - Added alot of defines to gain speed (FOL and GnoStiC)

    - Added define to allow 10.5MB of memory, not limited to 6MB anymore (FOL and cmf)

    - Changed the delay and latency on sound to gain speed (FOL)

    - Changed PSPUAE cpu cycle unit to 1, gave stable speed increase (FOL)

    - Removed 0 from Auto Frame Skip, pointless as it slows emu down when hitting 0 (FOL)

    - Removed Interpol code as it was broken since 0.60, removing this gave speed increase (GnoStiC)

    - Fixed memory selection, now only valid amiga memory configs are selectable (cmf)

    - Fixed Crash, where if no Backdrop was present PSPUAE would crash PSP (FOL and cmf)

    - Fixed Interrupts setting in sound, as it was still produing sound (FOL and GnoStiC)

    - Added AutoZoom check to PSPUAE reset command, so each reset will turn off AutoZoom. This stops the crash with certain configs, when AutoZoom was on. Simply Press and hold L & R Trigger and SELECT after reset to turn it back on (FOL)

    - Removed support for E / X-Loader and Tiff exploits as it was causing crash in Custom Firmwares. A separate E / X-loader tiff version is released separately (FOL)
