Well, my computer has frozen twice. It went unresponsive over night.. I clicked one thing and then everything freezes except the mouse. Alt-Tab works, but that's it. The programs won't fully load. I don't know what to do.

I have a 700 watt power supply, so I don't think power will be an issue. I'm surprised myself things are still working well. I probably pushed and pulled the motherboard more times than I can count trying to do all this crap.

Is that Clorox Bleach behind you?

I don't think I'll be opening up my computer again for a long time. I bought my PC pre-built and I recently bought 2GB of ram and a new nVidia graphics card. I haven't messed with the interior hardware of the computer for about a year. Everything was a PAIN IN THE ASS! Before anything, I cleaned my PC with air dust cans for about a half hour, after almost a year. The PC was filthy with dust and it was causing parts in my computer to overheat. First .... the graphics card. I was trying to pull out the graphics card I previously had in there. For some reason only the left side of the card was able to freely come out of the slot, but the right side was stuck in there. I thought that since I've been having the card overheat constantly at 85 degrees celsius everyday (because of the dust in the PC), that maybe the heat caused it to get stuck. I even checked to make sure there was no switch or something that would release the right side. So I end up trying to pry the card out for almost an hour. Until finally I said the hell with it and proceeded to pull the card out from the left side until the right side finally gave. The card came out and I heard a snapping sound. I then noticed a piece of plastic broke off from the motherboard. Previously unseen from my eyes was a switch that was holding the right side of the card inside the slot. I slightly saw it when I was trying to pull the card out, but I thought it was part of the graphics card itself. I even pressed it before and nothing happened. Now why the flock was it necessary to put that on the mobo? The only logical explanation I could think of was so the switch could keep the graphics card level, since sometimes they are quite heavy. Even then, it was ridiculous. So now I wasn't sure if I broke my mobo PCI-E slot and I sure as hell didn't care if I broke my previous graphics card. Therefore, I went ahead and put in the new graphics card, pushed it in, and it went in without trouble. Second ... the ram. I was trying like hell to push in the ram all the way. I eventually had to place the whole computer horizontally on the table (yes, I was doing everything before with the case sitting vertically). Even then, I still was having trouble pushing in the ram through the slots so the switches would lock in. I probably pressed like a mad man. Finally one of them went in, then the next went in, and all four went in (includes two 512mb sticks of ram I previously had). It also took me about an hour to even realize that the lining of the slots were not symmetric and that the ram could only be placed in one way. I found that out when one of the ram sticks were rocking back and fourth when I tried pushing it in. But during the hour before... I think I managed to always put the ram sticks in correctly, because I never felt the rocking problem. Back to the graphics card ... I booted up the PC, while thinking I sure as hell am going to get a BSOD any moment. PC booted up fine... monitor displayed graphics .. that's good. I didn't install the drivers yet, so I booted into Windows, installed the drivers, and then rebooted. Once the PC rebooted.. I then got a nice window from the Nvidia control panel that there is "Not enough power going to the graphics card and to make sure that the power cable is connected to the graphics card". Clicked on more information... "If power cable is not plugged into graphics card... you may damage your system". Ahhhh hell.... Yep. I forgot to connect the power cable to the graphics card. Shut down PC... connected power cable to graphics card. Booted up. And now we're here .... The PC seems to be working well. I checked the temperatures and everything looks good. All the RAM sticks seem to be reading correctly. I just hope I didn't destroy or harm the motherboard. Anyway to find out? I think I learned my lesson to find a PC professional to do this shit for me next time. I seriously need more practice with this stuff or I must stay away from the hardware aspect of PC's.

So are we all still alive in this joint? Seems like no one is really talking here anymore. I guess I'll be moving along. Yeah....... right. Just felt like giving a shout. How is Inky, LSD, Rob, iq, Gryph and all you folks doing? My life continues to be pestering busy and extremely stressful. I hope you all are saving money for the Holiday season, as we go through this worldwide economic crisis. We got to make sure the kids and everyone have gifts. I wonder if any you will be willing to post in this thread? I know a lot of you will read these very words and decide not to post. I'll probably wake up tomorrow night and still see my post in the "Last 8 Posts" in the forum index for this thread. Damn, that'll be depressing. Back to work.

Can Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe be Midway's redeeming factor or make them plummet back down to the ground and out cold? Post your thoughts.

To combat the ongoing spam attacks that have hit message boards worldwide, we have been implementing new security features and ideas. There is now a new Members+ group, which users in the regular Members group will be automatically promoted to after their first 3 posts. The only new feature that is available currently in the Members+ group is that it will allow you to send private messages. So to summarize: Group name: Members+ Features: Can send Private Messages Promoted from Members after first 3 posts The regular Members group will continue to have private messaging disabled, until other solutions are found. If you find that you are unable to do specific things that you were able to do in the Members group and now not in the Members+ group, please let us know! P.S. If you are a registered user with more than 3 posts and notice that you still can not send PM's: You may need to make at least 1 more post, so the system will auto-promote you to the Members+ group. - 1Emulation Staff

Good call. I forgot to unpin this days ago.

Well, it's about damn time. Nintendo's stocks went recently down after the announcement of the new DS because investors did not find the product anymore interesting. They better add the ability to use an external hard drive as well.

To answer the question .... yeah, I don't think so. Until there is an official announcement by Microsoft that the issue has been fixed, I think it'll continue to repeat no matter what type of hardware they're using. The samething happened with the Falcon boards and when the XBOX 360 Elite came out. Just wait and see.

Well, it's about time. The general American population were always waiting for him to dig himself a hole just big enough to shove him in jail. It's not like anyone truly believed he was innocent in 1995. They finally did just that. Even Thomas Riccio, the man who released the audio tapes of the robbery, said tonight that they set OJ up in this case, and that he believed OJ was innocent in the end. Who is to say what, but now it no longer matters. OJ's sentencing will be December. There is a minimum jail sentence for kidnapping and robbery, so he has no way of avoiding some hard times behind bars. What goes around comes around.

This is a very disturbing article that perhaps Skype may be giving permission to governments to wiretap people. Not only that, but the findings of poor security in their systems are also alarming, and this idea of a "backdoor" in Skype better just be an idea. Many people trust Skype because of the privacy they receive that is no longer available in the world. No one likes the idea of "Big Brother" listening in on all your phone calls if you have something to hide or not. In my opinion, if word of this spreads out more, and more evidence is found, we'll start to find competitive alternatives to Skype that are more trustable.

I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft gave Windows XP another extension. Let's face it, Vista has been a complete flop. It doesn't matter how much advertising they do on television, it's going to take a long time for them to change the image of Vista from a negative to a positive. In the meantime, most people will probably stick to Windows XP (sorry Bill). Or they'll buy a Mac solely because they are "so much easier than PC's".

My goodness .... we have to wait that long for some true high definition experience? I think Nintendo is starting to realize they made a big mistake by underpowering the console. Sure, the quantity of games for the Wii are filling the shelves, but also with a lot of crap (games). When I think about it these days, I think they were only trying to duplicate the success of the Nintendo DS, since it doesn't have the same graphics power as the Sony PSP, and has top notch games. However, the last good game that came out for the Wii was Mario Kart IMO. Absolutely depressing.

I'm glad to see more female gamers joining the club. It's definitely going to split 50/50 in the next 5-10 years or so. There are now more and more games directly only to female audiences.

Good idea, and leave it disabled. That will stop spambots from PMing anyone, ever. My plan is to enable it as soon as possible once I find a clear solution to prevent spam bots from doing this again on our site. I think the private messaging system remains as an essential tool that must be available for all members. I've met a lot of good people over the years because of it.

Unfortunately today we had a spambot that managed to PM over 3,000 of our members to an MSN phishing site. We have disabled BBCODE in PM's for now and also modified the message that was sent. We sincerely apologize to all members who received this PM. As far as we know, 1Emulation is not hacked, but unfortunately these spam softwares have become more advanced. Although we have edited all the PMs .... if there is a slight chance that you still see the original PM or still have the original PM open from before we did the changes, please DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. The original contents of the PM: Title: Important! For all fans www.1emulation.com As one can see, they give you a link that suppositely goes to "THIS MESSAGE IS FROM A SPAMBOT, PLEASE DELETE IT FROM YOUR INBOX", which is not a real subdomain on our server. When you highlight the link, you'll find it instead linking (by looking at the bottom of your browser) to a chinese (.cn) phishing domain for MSN. Again, we apologize. P.S. If any have been wondering why so many members are online right now, they are not spam bots. Just members who received an email stating that they received a PM, which is how they set their account upon registration on 1Emulation. UPDATE: We have currently disabled private messaging for all users who are in the "Members" group. That means all members who have less than 100 posts will not be able to currently send a private message to another member on our forums. We will re-enable the feature once we find an adequate solution for this problem. - 1Emulation Staff

I think libraries, as well as video rental stores, should stop fining the person after it has reached over the value of the product he or she rented. Otherwise, it's outright ridiculous to fine someone that much money for books, videos, and media that are worth no where near it.
