  1. Agreed. American cinema isn't all bad though. I think remakes miss the point of and insult the original as a general rule.
  2. Disagree. I must really hate this hardboiled noir sh!t.
  3. Just got back from seeing Cloverfield and.. well... not trying to make this personal but saying you were completely engulfed in this says too much about you. And I don't mean as a matter of taste either. It's trying to make something as extraordinary as a monster attack a personal experience. Of course you were engulfed... all Cloverfield had going for it was getting the viewer invested in what was going on. The whole 'documentary' approach is a very cheesy, cheap gimmick, but at least in this case it did its job. My question is how could you get so engulfed in it that you missed how bad every other part of the film was? You could say the lack of resolution was intentional, but you can't explain away the random meanderings of what is a very simple story as easily. We have some kids running around, occasionally crossing a monster, and all ending up dead. I could make a strong case that this movie was about nothing, nothing of any importance happened during it and ultimately went nowhere. As a personal journey it was far too incredible, and as an action movie it was boring. The characters were flat and impossible to empathise with, and there wasn't nearly enough actual monster combat to pick up the slack. Not to mention the monster itself was a joke. It's an adrenaline rush because it pulls you in close to what's happening and doesn't let go... but if nothing significant actually happens then what's the point of any of it? I ended up not giving a sh!t and thanking my lucky stars this drek ended 5 minutes after they survived the helicopter crash.
  4. It could in theory be due to physical factors like the drive's laser alignment, the old brand of media you were using compared to what you are using now... but without a bit of trial and error on your part to diagnose that they are just guesses.
  5. Not exactly. Although Uru itself retconned everything (claiming to be set in real life, whereas Myst games were just games), I just consider the Myst titles 1-5 as your canon, with Uru an kind of side-story experiment with the ability to play with other people; not that big a deal... ...and also keep in mind 90% of the content of 'Myst Online: Uru Live' was made available a long time ago in Uru: Ages Beyond Myst and its expansions Uru: To D'ni and Uru: The Path of the Shell, just in a single player form. The 10% they added when it went online seems rushed, unpolished and pointless. There are a few 'museum Ages' where you are inside an observation sphere and can't do anything but look outside the window, a palate swap of an existing Age, and a few, now empty, places like Myst Island and K'veer mansion from the original game. No biggies. The funny part is before they decided they were going to revive the online part, most of the worthwhile content in the pipeline was reworked and packaged as Myst V: End of Ages. If you want to get into Myst I say play Myst, then Riven, read the Book of Atrus novel (if you can be bothered), then play the original offline version Uru, and then finally go to Myst V: End of Ages. Myst 3 and 4 are wastes of time IMHO- the franchise name was outsourced for those games and you can really tell by just looking at them.
  6. To anyone that has been exploring the cavern of D'ni and its handful of Ages, consider this your official 60-day eviction notice. Personally I am crushed, but with the game's declining popularity and the stark lack of content available this MMORPG was bound to go bust sooner or later. I'd like to hold a grudge against Gametap for this except I honestly can't blame them. Source; Gametap.
  7. Yeh I always google first. Most are expired... tried about 30 from Siliconera that were all used up. Just decided to get Turok. Its a ways cheaper for me via Play-Asia.
  8. Anyone have any that I could steal ? I can donate 1 $5 and 1 $10 coupon later this week.
  9. Is your PS2 modded? If not it can't boot burnt discs. If it is modded, why are you using Swap Magic? Swap Magic is sold as a pressed disc that an unmodded PS2 can read, which can then be swapped out for a backup. Burning a copy of Swap Magic itself is like missing the point entirely...
  10. It's called the 'Asia (English Language)' version. It's code is NTSC-J. It will boot on NTSC-J and PAL machines. The Japanese and 'Asia (Japanese Language)' are also NTSC-J, but will only boot on NTSC-J consoles, not PAL. Also the local Australian PAL version is on shelves where I live now. It is compatible with PAL and NTSC-U consoles :S This all gets pretty confusing.
  11. Ok so I've been playing Lost Odyssey.. here are a few quick impressions; -There are framerate issues all over the place during in-engine cutscenes. Gameplay is smooth and there are so many pre-rendered scenes that the issues stand out when they do happen. -Voice acting is generally pretty strong in English. -The gameplay in general is an enormous knockoff of the modern (pre-11, post-6) Final Fantasy games. -The battling is incredibly difficult- I am getting wiped out again and again by random encounters so much that I am either completely missing something or this is the hardest turn-based RPG I have ever played.
  12. I've sent you a friends request. Check your messages to accept.
  13. I wonder if this is wrong to post.. if so my apologies- please delete it. But just on the topic of using liquor as lube... EDIT- actually its pretty graphic.. PM me if you want to see something that sick I guess.
  14. Hmm how are you connected? Via a normal router or straight from a modem? To get a good connection you need to open some ports to the 360, or just put its IP in the DMZ. Either way it shouldn't be wonky... in either case if this is bad for you that gayass PSN will be worse. So don't buy a PS3!
  15. Yeh. In the folder with your Roms, the save will be the same name as the rom file, just with a *.0 extension. You can drag and drop it to the comp to back it up. Interestingly, you can use the same saves for your GBA Roms on a PC emulator like VBA and vice versa.
  16. The Romshare I knew was a joke a few years back. No idea why, but I would always login as myself, and appear online as someone else. Never had any failed login attempts though... needless to say I was banned soon after for something like that. Oh well, who needs Romshare? I have 1Emulation and somewhere else.
  17. Hmm I don't know where you can download actual skins but its pretty easy to make your own- its just a matter of making a few bitmaps of the right sizes. Get the instructions for doing so here. Look at the included skins in the system folder to use as templates.
  18. Trial and error? Fatal Rose care to weigh in on this one?
  19. Shenmue II. On control issues alone, I can't see what all the fuss is about.
  20. Surpringly polished for a Flash game. Tip 'o' the hat to the makers. The lacking comp chick voice brings the score down.
