I don't think there is really any way to attribute different meanings to the spear or the knife- they both have the same masculine, oppressive readings no matter which discipline you choose to interpret them from. I stand by my thoughts that like each other enemy type in the game, the Pyramid Heads represent a single thing. The different weapons are probably just for the sake of game mechanics... avoiding the need for the player to survive against the same boss with the same moves twice in the game.

How about that? Famous characters from the Unreal Tournament series will NOT be in-game characters in UT3. Malcom, champion of UT99 and UT2004 is in cutscenes, but not playable either as him or against him. Brock a main character in UT99, UT2003 and Unreal Championship 2 will not be playable either. Xan, the original tournament champion (and notoriously difficult boss) from UT99 and UT2004 is also absent. None of the teams from previous games, except Iron Guard, return either. Gorge, champ of 2003, and his team of Juggernauts are all missing in action. What the hell? Does this annoy anyone else as much me? This will mark the first time any of these guys have been missing in a UT game since their first appearance. This includes the 2 Unreal Championship games as well.

Yeh the NeoGeo rom definitions are messed up. You need to open up rominfo.mvs and edit the filesizes and CRCs to match your rom sets. Unlike the CPS1 & 2 emus, those definitions aren't based on the latest MAME as far as I can tell.

Is your beef with Apples, or with the relative prices of laptops vs. similar spec desktop PCs? I'm all down the Apple hating.. all Macs are just fads.

What games have you purchased lately?

Yeh but it, like the rest of the great hardware in the PS3, is being wasted. -
Doom at least had The Rock and a chainsaw fight with a pinky, if little else.

Well a 12 month subscription here is $80AUD and it comes with a headset bundled in. A 3 month subscription is $40AUD. The game itself costs 800 Microsoft Points. Here, 1500 MSP cost $25AUD. I know its not helpful getting things in a foreign currency but the exchange rate is about 89 US Cents to 1 Australian Dollar atm. Should give you a rough idea at least.

Does akimbo mean dual wielded pistols like in UT? To mean it just = uncoordinated.

I still don't have VF5. Still trying to find where I can get it cheap... probably the US version from somewhere. You can get it off the XBOX Live! Arcade, or the PlayStation Store. Both charge a fee for it. Microsoft, however, is planning on making their Arcade service a part of Windows Live!, which uses the same currency. I imagine in the future you'll be able to get it for your PC that way, but for now yeh you need XBOX Live. In case I missed the point of your question, you don't need to be a Gold (paying) subscriber to download the game for the set fee. You only need that if you want to play it online.

Nice. Trust me when I say I'm a lot better at SF2 than I am at KOF2002 .

The Xbox version?

I have never played the Hitman games but I love Blood Money's soundtrack. I also love the actor, Timothy Olyphant. Dunno what to make of this movie... will be seeing it whenever it comes out here.

As far as I know Gans just made a few shorts and showed them to Konami brass. All that really proves is that he has a siren sound effect in his collection and knows how to use the noise filter in Avid. Film production is its own entity. Konami was given a treatment early to sign off on. However to say that they / Yamaoka himself had any real influence is fooling yourselves. They did not see the script that was shot for one, and couldn't have made any changes to it even if they had wanted to. You can't really use that in justification of whether the film was good or not. For PR reasons alone they're not going to come out and say they didn't like it after the rights had been sold. I hated it and haven't seen it in more than a year so I'm going to go back and watch it now to remember the specific reasons why not. Don't mean to be hating on it so badly... I just don't get how you guys can endorse it so strongly. Yeh but Heather isn't a little girl... I haven't played SH0 far enough to see this butcher anyway so I don't know how he looks. Was just pretty sure I'd seen the black metal-headed PH in trailers or something before. Maybe it was a trailer for SH5 after all... But btw those guys with the spears and the one with the knife are the same guys.

Quake 4 is a decent game... the 360 runs around 30fps, but even that is inconsistent. I'm playing it now, and it just seems wrong. Good game - bad port. I think Unreal Tournament is the best fps game / series ever made. Pick up the 360 version of UT3 next February.

The only instance in which the Silent Hill movie was a good adaption is when you're considering all the really bad game-to-movie projects, which isn't setting the bar very high. The movie took elements of the games and stitched them together in superficial and predictable ways. There are only 2 reasons why this would happen; it was either intentionally dumbed down for the masses or else betrays the writers' inability to comprehend what the games were about in the first place. You could say it was a smart move swapping in a woman protagonist. But then you could look at that the other way and say that the mother-as-carer is typical of traditionally gendered media and that having a man as the concerned parent instead would be an unusual and interesting way to explore masculinity. Maternal instinct on screen is a cliche in itself and the film isn't any better for choosing a stock character type for its lead. It doesn't necessarily heighten the drama either. I think having a man in there would have ultimately been the better choice. Considering the naive way in which the writers approached other aspects of the production, I'm not surprised they found it easier to write the lines for a chick. In SH2 he wasn't called 'Pyramid Head' either. He was the Red Pyramid or something. In SH4 he was referred to as dragon-something something... can't remember. But in each case we know who we're talking about. Also what little girls did you mean in SH2 and 3? Laura wasn't particularly supernatural and Heather was in her teens.

Well my understanding of the first game was that it was the portion of Alessa's soul still trapped in her burnt adult body that was causing all the paranormal in the other world, and the little girl / Cheryl was only there because she was running away from Harry to reunite with the other half of herself. If that makes sense. Hence, having a girl around so much outside of that context is somewhat meaningless. The Pyramid Head thing... yeh I know. I agree. But I'm still ticked about it. Its in line with my first point... by exploiting these things they lose their meaning and they become cheap horror tricks. PH is not just some cool evil dude with a knife. Just like you shouldn't have Cheryl without Harry, you can't have this guy without James. Its a shame people coming to the franchise now won't know why though, and will probably never know what was so special about these things in the first place. Its in SPAM because I thought this was going to turn into a rant. I was also taking a stab at Origins for the PSP, not SH5, although I don't hold a great deal of hope for that either. Gameplay wise Origins is great and all and has some good production values... I just hate the way the influence of the film has now mainstream-ed Silent Hill games from psychological / atmospheric horror into cheap thrill / cheap effect horror.

^ Discuss. I have beef with the fact that the wicked little girl is suddenly the primary iconography of the series, when it never really has been before. Tying into that, why is Travis fighting Pyramid Head? This series has gone to hell and I point the finger squarely in that dodgey movie's direction. Agree?

Harsh but kinda fair . But I can't talk- I've bought UT3 for the PC and will likely buy it again for the 360 in January. Solidus- how's Assassin's Creed? The mixed reviews are doing my head in. -
You should check the compatibility lists on other sites. I'm pretty sure Space Channel 5 and Rez work on NullDC.

Congrats. And to Mooney, better to not have the courage than to ask and get a 'no'. Trust me.

I was using SNES9xTYL 0.4, but only a few games worked Fullspeed, like the ones that said "Found Speedhacks", and my PSP kept Freezing once in a while so im going to try this out. And i never got gens to work so i hope this one works for me. Thanx Are they fullspeed? Yeh SNES emulation on the PSP is far from perfect/ As for those arcade emus, yeh they are all fullspeed surprisingly.
