  1. Ok, so I'm looking into finding out the differences between each type of disk image formats, like ISO, NRG etc... So if someone can point me to a tutorial, that would be grand. Also, I'm especially interested in finding out which disk image formats I should use when making backups of audio CDs and ripping the music from the backup.
  2. Wow, his account's older than mine. Very rare for someone from that age to come back posting here.
  3. Disclaimer: apologies if this post may not make sense, I'm rather stoned at the moment. @BK 1. What I was trying to say is that you're being a hypocrite although I tried veiling it as I did not want to come across as insulting. I'm merely pointing it out, no offense. You don't necessarily have to think it's right to pirate music, but if you say it's wrong and still do it, that makes you a hypocrite. So it kinda comes across as weird when you're saying "he agrees with the way I consume music" and "Stealing music is wrong" in the same post, savvy? That's what I was trying to say. This was not necessarily meant as a counter-argument but rather as a more "preachy" reply, meaning that how can you stand by your point of view and expect us to respect it when you're not. Again, no offense. 2. Yes, he is trying to make money. Every person and his dog on the planet is trying to make money one way or another, because that's the way society fvcks us up. The problem here lies with how he does it. And that is by being honest about it. I can respect that and would gladly shove my hand into my pocket knowing that I'm rewarding him, his artist(s) and myself at the same time. He's not trying to backstab me or his artists. Now if I were to buy stuff from a major label, I'd get usually get the satisfaction (back in the old days anyway, these days they try finding new ways of forcing you to buy their sh!t, or inflicting your computer with DRM status ailments) but the artist wouldn't be receiving much back, it would all go to the greedy bastards that run their respective shindigs. Do you think that motivates the artist much? I seriously doubt it. Poor artists die unknown most of the times. He/she/them would eventually not make any more music for me to consume, hence no further satisfaction on my part. 3. You say he's tickling the ego of pirates who want to be told it's OK to pirate. I have never actually met such a person (which does not mean they don't exist, and even if they do, by my reasoning that would make them horribly naive). Yes, we know pirating is wrong but we do it anyway, each with our own different reasons. That's not the problem. The problem is raising awareness of all the sleazy sh!t that happens in the background. This guy managed to open my eyes a bit, just enough for me to do some more research and stop being ignorant about this fact. I don't agree with people being shat on. That would also make me a hypocrite to a certain extent, but the fact remains that piracy is minor when compared to the bullsh!t they're being force-fed by their own contractors. 4. I may have exaggerated on the paranoia bit, but what I meant to say is that I wouldn't take it so personal when someone is trying to do what the guy did. It does not automatically mean he's trying to scam you with a fancy new system or reverse psychology or God knows what else. @Ahmad 1. I utterly failed to see the how the "robber" analogy connects to the topic at hand. Maybe because of my above described condition. Or the fact that banks provide a service, robbers provide a disservice. This is not a question of "is piracy right or wrong?" it's about the artists and the major label records who scam both them and the consumers. 2. You say you don't care if the artist isn't making money. I find that utterly dreadful. If all people were to think like you, we'd really end up listening to exactly the same music because it would be so tearfully limited. 3. If I think a song sucks, I won't download it. What's the point in downloading something I don't like? You are right, this isn't a battle between me(the consumer) and iTunes. Because iTunes and any other similar service are just a tool used by the root of the problem. It's a battle between me and my would-be allies, the artists, against the major record labels, the actual seed of evil, that are trying to fvck both of us up. Complaining doesn't lead to anything, ever (except if you're a WoW player and enough members of your class whine hard enough for buffs for you or nerfs for the other players/classes). Taking a pro-active stance and doing something about it, in this case pirating for consumers, and alternative music distribution methods for the artists is what chills the corporate buckets of sh!t's spines. It's the reason the MAFIAA is trying so hard to shut piracy down. We're tearing down their shiny golden castle built upon deceit, gluttony and the blood, sweat and tears of others. 4. Regarding the game/song bit, I, as a (hopefully) future game designer, will be uploading the games that I make to a P2P network myself in addition to distributing it through some other methods, rather than contracting a publisher. I don't know about others but the fact remains that I know to a certain extent that piracy does not have the utterly soul-crushing effects the mainstream, corporate flocks and the media are saying it has. Apologies for the wall of text, I feel the need to talk to someone intelligent at the moment. Must be the grass. And finally, on a lighter note, not everything is so black and white as you guys envision it to be. We'd all be a bunch of mindless tools or robotrons if life were like that.
  4. You can find the jpg of the original site on Benn Jordan's site. Otherwise I can PM you the link straight off.
  5. Portal. "TEH CAKE IZ A LIEEEEEE!" Too bad it was so short. Finished it in one sitting.
  6. You fail to see the wider picture here. You're not stealing music from the artist, you're stealing from the freakin music label, which is more or less stealing from the artist anyway. Read that article link I gave you, it should be enlightening. You're too paranoid, there's no conspiracy going on here. No one's insulting your intelligence. It's just his sales pitch, which is a lot more morally gratifying than buying from a major label. And on a non-personal note, what would your statements make you? "stealing music is wrong" + "...the way I consume music"? What does that smell to you? I hope his label stays going for a long time, so that other musicians can do what he does, so we fvcking never have to deal with DRM bullsh!t or any other PC-destroying, money-hungering, quality-reducing way to prevent piracy that is generally only good to use as a toilet paper, because it sure as hell isn't worth my money.
  7. Right, just a quick warning tho. It's electronica so you guys might not like it. But hey, it's always fun to try new genres out, eh? Rapidshare links attached to main post. edit: (reply for bellow): Thanks Robert, that duplicate thread really annoyed me... It's because of the quick edit not working that I accidentally made two threads. Don't ask me how, it all happened way too fast.
  8. It's on a private tracker. Updated main topic with a very very interesting read. Should show people what a bunch of bullsh!t major record companies actually are. Oh, I have rapidshare links if I'm allowed.
  9. That, and people are wising up. Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails and others are distributing their work through alternative methods like mail order or pay-to-download thingies.
  10. Quoted from a site I won't give the name of. And this receives a big from me. FTW and I'm gonna download that album so I can see if it's good or not. edit: ok, wtf, your quick edit is borken. edit#2: if anyone is thinking something along the lines of "he's a nobody, it won't make any difference" here's a can of stfu http://www.last.fm/music/The+Flashbulb. Ignorance is not an excuse. edit#3: http://observer.guardian.co.uk/omm/story/0,,2241544,00.html -> might relieve the moral pain you get when downloading music off P2P (yeah, right...). Also, very enlightening. edit#4: Here's the RS links. Seriously tho, fix that damn quick edit feature. It won't ever complete my changes... part 1: http://rapidshare.com/files/88361779/The_F...Afaz_.part1.rar part 2: http://rapidshare.com/files/88361778/The_F...Afaz_.part2.rar For those of you who care, I can't confirm if these are scene releases or P2P just yet.
  11. Why would you want a blockbuster whatever anyway? Isn't it easier just to download everything?
  12. Mudlord, you are my savior. It works great! And I don't even have to activate the "analog audio" option in Daemon Tools for Heroes 2. The music is freakin grand. update: changing the drive letter did not fix Heroes 1 unfortunately. I still get a BSoD if I turn off the "digital audio" for the virtual drive. Enabled "analog audio" on Daemon Tools as well, and fiddled with Compatibility mode. BSoDed... Also if someone could explain to me how I can get Alcohol to show me those menus as exemplified in my previous post that would be great.
  13. I said that too, compatibility mode is more for lulz anyway. Didn't help, and the games run fine without it anyway. edit: alcohol is just being a retarded piece of sh!t... I just grabbed the latest 120% build, (not trial, no limitations) and it does NOT have the option that it fvcking says it has in the manual... here, let me show you this is what their manual says: and this is how my fvcked up sh!t of a program looks like:
  14. Did I not say it gave me a BSoD when entering HoMM 1 and no music in HoMM 2? Jeez...
  15. I did, I got 3.47 D-Tools version, checked Analog audio on and it still didn't work...
  16. Somehow I doubt this would work. I've tried everything. I've enabled analog audio emulation with D-Tools and disabled the virtual drive's digital audio option. In Heroes 1, I got a BSoD... In Heroes 2, I got no music. I've even installed the latest Realtek sound driver which is supposed to have legacy sound card support and analog mixer support and it didn't work... I'm starting to lose hope...
  17. HTML for me. Flash doesn't allow me to copy stuff that's on it and most adds are flash as well. Adblock Plus ftw.
  18. nay. but I can rip them with a CD audio ripping tool. But I just want to hear them ingame. They beat the MiDi music by far.
  19. Trying to get Heroes 1 and 2 CD music to work. In order to do that the game has to have access to the CD. I have a virtual drive with a mounted mdf image but it won't play the CD music in-game. I've tried a lot of options but none seem to work. Compatibility mode, turning off digital audio and activating Analog audio on Daemon Tools didn't do anything. So I've come to the conclusion that it must be the image formats the games are stored in. Didn't try burning them to a CD cuz I don't have any and I don't want to waste a DVD. Any idea in what kind of image I can convert the ccd HoMM 1 and the mds HoMM 2 to make them play audio music?
  20. This thread hit epic win a long ass time ago, let the juices flow I say.
  21. Sure you can blame 'em. I bet the port will completely suck ass anyway, since they probably did not do ANY optimization work and those specs prove it. Fvck ya'll and your lazy ass game developing sh1t. I'm glad I pirate.
  22. Me, I'd love to join. Might not be able to, depending on my interweb, but hey
