OSX isn't FreeBSD...OSX kernel is Mach, FreeBSD is not. OSX is Mach with a FreeBSD Userland ontop. The FreeBSD kernel is a beast of it's own really.

There's nothing available for Mac, that doesn't have an equal or better counterpart in either Windows or some flavor of *nix. Paying for imprisonment in my hardware is not something I care for, nor is using a bastardized dumb dumb OS built upon the foundations of something FAR greater than it. I like Apple's simplicity in design and usage, but I hate their restrictive nature of it. Worst of all...I hate their rabidly loyal Sheep fanbase.

Ok so it's late, I got bored...and a seriously lacking feature in 7zip was pissing me off to no end. I didn't want to use WinRAR, as the space savings on what I was trying to pack was considerably more in the end with 7zip. It didn't help that NOBODY had a simple, or working if it was simple(Found several that claimed to work, and didn't), solution to my problem. I wasn't installing Auto-Hotkey for this...nuh uh. I took this thing beyond just zipping files up individually...like i said, I was bored! It asks for input fr the file extension you want (Just TXT for instance, don't type *.TXT). It REFUSES to continue if it finds no files matching the extension you input, going back to the start and asking again. It allows(asks) you to input commonly used command line parameters for 7-Zip compression settings. Make sure to change the path inside the file to match where 7-Zip is for you. Use it in the folder where your files are to be packed. If you pass an incorrect value in the 7-Zip parameters, it WILL get used, so watch what you enter as I didn't put any checks or restrictions on them. P.S. It's green cause I said so! P.S.S. No I didn't write up any input/output path options...I'm not THAT lazy. 7z_Individual_Archives.zip

Kids got a bunch o crap, I got my GF a set of polar fleece PJs, a bunch of girly bath stuff in her favorite smelly shit, and a blue topaz ring. I have been put into a situation I've never been in before today too, I got SPOILED in comparison. I got a bunch of crap in my stocking, including a new case for my Blackberry (Old one broke, sitting on GFs dash waiting for me to fix it lol), the usual guy stuff, a sweet looking Black Titanium ring. The kicker...a 4000w LG Surround system with more features than I can shake a stick at. This system even supports SAMBA/CIFS shares over a built in 1Gbit ethernet port FFS...I didn't even ask for anything, she's been paying attention to what I've been looking at for months. Not sure what I'm going to do with the BluRay player though, I refuse to ever pay for a movie again...at least until Hollywood can stop pulling things out of their ass not worth paying for.

I'm enjoying my NO SNOW right now, roads are clear and my driveway is bare. Still have huge snowbanks though and it's -18 right now, but oh well!

I just picked up the Indie Humble Bundle, paid $15 for it as I'm only interested in 2 of the games and I don't feel simple games like these warrant their individual $15-$20 price tags. The average $7 is something to be ashamed of though...your money is also going to charity. Machinarium is driving me nuts on the 4th level though, I can't figure it out! I'd get Bad Company 2 @ $6.79, but I'm done with games like that on PC...sick of upgrading for FPS games. All 5 PoP games will run you like $20 or less by the looks of it. There are over 600 games that are under $5 right now, yesterday there were like 1/4 that. I'm buying a bunch of $0.49 games lol

Any of you guys got experience with "filming?"

Why not just make pr0n? It's easier, and even a decent webcam will suffice... -
Only available in the US...so duh, alot of users on here aren't from the US. I think this place is probably the most diverse, at least in terms of active users, forum I've been on. With users from Australia to Romania, and China to Canada.

Quitting drinking before xmas sucks.

I haven't used a firewall in like 5yrs like cinder said for home user's there is really no point in it. What if someone sneaks a trojan on your pc and your firewall blocks its access after discovering your bank details? A firewall isn't going to save you from a trojan that is already present on your system, very easy for the trojan (and common I might add) to use a generally accepted port for it's outgoing communications that a firewall wouldn't notice or think much of. Besides...isn't that your ANTIVIRUS' job in the first place? Firewall's are to keep malicious attackers OUT, I don't know of any REAL hacker that would have a use in breaking into my stuff. Besides, good luck jumping through all the hoops in my network and spoofing your MAC address at least 2 different times in the process to even make it to my machines. Edit: I DO use the firewall on my end point router, but only to block specific addresses from being reached from WITHIN my network TO the internet. Simple IPTABLE rules to drop packets to/from a destination, and nothing else. Software firewalls on Windows that block everything unless otherwise permitted are nothing but resource hogging piles of steaming dogshit.

Firewalls for home users are like carrying pepper spray in the middle of the arctic...never used one, never will.

30c, you can keep it any time of the year...too hot. That's about -5c, where you living now? It's -13 here right now and I like it! Till the wind starts up and makes it feel like -25...
-
More here, very windy and almost zero visibility with blowing snow. A few hours away there are hundreds of people stranded on the highway, with a state of emergency declared. I haven't seen a winter like this since I was little.

Avast, I won't use anything else. AVG won't let you do selective scanning (On certain files or folders) or IGNORE something I know isn't a fucking virus, I stopped using it for that reason. Symantec could make their shit free and I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole, and Microsoft puts out bloatware.

I think manufacturers should start offering boards with upgradeable NB/SB. Then they can key RAM all the same, and it's just a matter of replacing your NB to use a higher speed RAM. With AMD's CPUs having their memory controller on the CPU itself, this makes such a thing even easier.

Forums/subforums that we don't need anymore...
ken_cinder replied to Alpha's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
I doubt it, I'm reluctant to scroll my wheel 15 times to get to the bottom of the page. I bet most users don't even know about the bottom half of the forums for this very reason alone. -

I already suggested more than once over the last few years, to simply create Parent Forums for each manufacturer to clean the index page up. Then it doesn't matter if we have 20 forums, or 200. And it doesn't take more than some clicks to do, there's no actual work involved. Right now they're just CATs with the forums listed under them. Just make the cats PARENTs instead. -
How long does it take for gasoline to go stale?
ken_cinder replied to Shibathedog's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
More likely condensation, I bet there was a bit of a puddle on the ground under the tailpipe. That's another thing you have to watch for when leaving a car sit, condensation accumulating inside the exhaust and working it's way up into the engine. It will get up into any open valves and ruin your seals. -
Just make sure you don't buy an AM3 only motherboard, and an AM2/AM2+ CPU! They are NOT compatible, even if you remove the keying pins on the CPU (Which still works in an AM2 mobo afterwards). You need an AM2/AM2+/AM3 motherboard, and yes there are boards out there that are made for AM3 only.

Can you link me to some for US > CA shipments? There's stuff on Amazon in the US, I can't get here. And Toys R Us in the US but not here...and numerous other places.
-
Probably be ALOT cheaper for you to find someone in North America that you trust, to purchase parts from Tigerdirect/Newegg or wherever and have them ship them to you. I'd be willing to do it with the money up front, I don't have the funds right now to cover being reimbursed. Get it all shipped here, then box it all up in a single box and ship it out insured at value.

If you're running it with no battery, you will have an incomplete circuit by removing the cables if the alternator directly feeds just the battery with no other feeds. Just shut the other car off once it's running, and your alternator will keep it's battery charged and your car running still. -
I LOVE the cold, I hate the snow. If it was colder, it wouldn't be snowing, at least not so hard. That's part of why it is, it's like PERFECT snow temperature right now at -5. Every little bit of precipitation is falling as large snowflakes. Me and -30c agree! Just bundle up and you're good. I can't stand it when it's hot.
-
If I want to die of a heart attack, sure I'd let it pile up. Would take me about 6 hours straight shoveling then. It's still falling, I just shoveled another few inches away. Thankfully it seems to have slowed a fair bit, I shouldn't wake up to another 1.5-2 feet in the morning. I hope not, I have nowhere to put it anymore. That snowbank on the front lawn is well over 7' high now.
