  1. Nice to see something beyond games being worked on, this is sure to fuel homebrew on a larger scale in the future. I don't own a DS nor do I ever plan on it, but I love seeing homebrew development on any platform. Was there not some sort of competition going on for developing a TCP/IP solution for the DS, where there was a cash prize? Or am I getting things confused with another platform/idea?
  2. You have an Xbox........play the DivX back on it, burn em to CD. I have no intentions of EVER burning a movie on DVD, I'll rip one to DivX myself and burn it to CD. Already have infact.
  3. Yeah stop the yapping and post pictures! Isn't that what you made this thread for? Oh and no more ultra-pale, ultra thin-faced asians. Bust out the full-bodied ones like some of the ones you've already posted, I can appreciate those ones..........even if I do find your taste lacking.
  4. Thats also losses on hardware, they've made up plenty on their take of software. That was their plan from the start. With the cost of dev kits and liscencing, I wouldn't doubt they made it all back, or very close to all of it.
  5. Big crock of sh!t on both fronts, nothing but a fairytale. Both systems have drives DESIGNED to read DVD media, infact playing games will wear it out faster......the drive is seeking data all over the place on the disk. With movies, it's a stream. End of story. PERIOD
  6. Yes I still run alternates to everything Microsoft I possibly can lol I'll actually throw up a list of the alternatives I use, so anyone else (and yourself) can try these things out. Windows Shell = Aston (Approx 10x smaller footprint than Explorer, and MUCH more customizeable. Also 3x smaller footprint than Litestep, and less confusing) File Manager = Directory Opus (Best I've found so far, also replaces explorer.....too much to say, you'd have to try it out) Browser = Mozilla Firefox (I don't think I need to say anything here.....) Email = Mozilla Thunderbird (Again....no need to say anything, whups Outlook though) Office Program = Openoffice (I've still got MS Office XP installed. I'm trying to get used to using this, and will eventually ditch MS Office....but for now, till I'm comfortable, both) Defragmenter = Raxco's Perfectdisk (This thing defrags WAY better than the defrag tool that ships with XP, however it has it's quirks with not defragging certain things that I WANT defragged. The XP tool will do that though, use both for best results) Media Player = Media Player Classic (THE replacement for WMP.......period) I also repeatedly tweak the services on my computer for top performance, schedule batch CHKDSK's (.BAT file......google this up, you'll figure it out) to keep things optimized and a hell of a lot more. This is why I get more out of my 5 year old Pentium 4 than some of you get out of your brand new machines. The last thing I have to say is..........Do NOT be afraid to break your Windows installation by playing around, it ships broken anyway. lol Back everything up if you don't use more than one partition, and if you don't use more than one partition (C drive only), LEARN TO!
  7. Laser mech motor is dying, you can replace th at or the whole drive. Right now I'm using an LG DRD-8120B PC drive, works awesome..........just can't play originals. Want to get my hands on another Xbox drive (1st gen Sammy or a Philips) but people simply want too much for em. $50 is too much for a DVD drive, when you can get a whole XBOX for another $50 more used.
  8. ME? BLARG!!!!!!! Install 2k Pro FFS........If theres any version of Windows to stay away from like the plague, it's ME. (All of them actually, but I'm a gamer........and most of my games are Windows only ech)
  9. You should look up (via google) more details for this. I know you can play PAL video on an NTSC machine, but you have to upsample due to the lower framerate (25. something on PAL and 29.6 on NTSC).....I believe the term is called "Interpolation" Almost every DVD player on the market now, will do this on the fly however. But it's more noticeable, especially if you still frame things, that there are duplicate frames. There are tools for this on some of the more common websites, for performing the conversion to a better degree than letting a DVD player do it on the fly. The best resource on the internet that I know of, for all your video needs is Doom9
  10. You'd be the only person in the world with it then, this game was only released in Japan.
  11. Finish school in September? Isn't that when school starts?
  12. I know with my Radeon, I had to build a kernel module the first time I got back to using Linux (Mandrake 8.1).....what a pain in the ass. It had been so long since I'd used Linux, that I couldn't remember how to do much, let alone compile a damn kernel module. Using a binary or building a driver from source? garageink, to actually answer your other questions. Linux isn't just all about the command-line, "streamlining" is what it's called I believe. If you don't need a GUI (Running a server etc) then why have one eating up resources? With Windows....you don't have a choice. As for Photoshop, GIMP I hear is awesome. Tried it myself though and found it rather wierd, everything seems to be run from individual windows. Don't know if you can dock or combine em, but I'd assume you can.
  13. Mandrake, now known (for whatever RETARDED reason) as Mandriva.
  14. While working as a mover, I was given an 8'L x 5'H x 2'D solid cherry entertainment center by a customer for free. It was practically new, and upon looking up the model online I found that it retails for nearly $1500. TEH WIN
  15. $600 for a 26" TV is too expensive, period. Widescreen or not. Prices need to come down by 500% before I'll give a damn about buying HDTV.
  16. I don't have hair......
  17. Too many garbage games overcrowding the place. I'd still play if I didn't have to wade through all the junk. It isn't up to date either........missing several of the latest features, like user creatable tourneys, sorting options and favourites. Needs an update.......badly.
  18. Can't say I believe this, just in general for the specs. I'm still going with 3 core PPC, at lower freqs. Theres also the fact that in those "specs" there is contradicting information. Which is it? I don't doubt the make of RAM however, it's a great choice. I can't see this, PERIOD. This can easily be included inside the rev, even with it's small footprint and wouldn't require major surgery for pinouts either. And you'll most likely not see 7.1 support, period........it's far from mainstream yet, even further than HDTV is, and yes it's far from standard still because it's outrageously expensive still. Huh? Who made this term up? Big finger on the "FAKE!" button now.
  19. Hell after the 360 comes out and sees it's first price drop, a new Xbox should be dirt cheap. I think at that point I'll probably pick up a second one.
  20. Anything with Paulie Shore in it, because I love laughing at total f**king morons. And this guy is the KING of morons.
  21. I know of very few US developers, period. Almost all game developers in this generation of consoles are based in Europe or Japan, very few are US based. Most development in the US, is by European companies with studios in the US. There are only a small handful of US based companies.
  22. Lets not forget that the rom images and disc images for these would take up alot of space. Certainly not a good tradeoff when as was stated, all but one game is available on consoles. For preservation purposes, I'd like to see it emulated. But I certainly wouldn't be "collecting" unless I had nothing else to collect.
  23. Reading IGNs article, they stated that 1 player could use 2 of the controllers simultaneously. Imagine games where you could wield 2 swords at once, or 2 guns. I'm starting to believe this controller is going to be awesome for certain things, and with a standard controller shell for mainstream games, there won't be any real issues.
  24. Ok, I think I've finally seen enough. Ol' Georgie needs to go back to school FFS.......he isn't fit to run a gas station, let alone run your country. http://www.spikedhumor.com/Article.aspx?id=2436
  25. Don't outright bash it until you try it, it may wind up being absolutely awesome. Could you imagine having had the Gamecube controller as the controller on the NES? I bet you would have felt the same in that case....... I think it's absolutely screwy too, but I'm not going to call it for being good or bad until I've tried it. Nintendo has a way with ergonomics, having two hands seperately controlling things is more natural, this may work out very well.
