  1. The time when this place got spammed a couple years ago by a bunch of users from another site, and I layed the smackdown on all of them.
  2. The PS3 IS running PowerPC...................mind you it's architecture is different in the way that, not just it's core is there, but several DSP in the same die. Quite frankly, that poses a serious heat dissipation issue IMO. Oh and on another but related note, the performance specs Sony provided, had to have been whipped up by some tool for show. The final designs aren't even in yet, and how can you base performance on pre-rendered crap? Combining the performance of the DSPs and the GPU don't count for crap, 2+2 doesn't = 4 remember? You can't combine the GPU FLOPS with the CPU FLOPS and call it like it appears. The CPU has to feed the GPU data first off, so theres some overhead that gives no actual output, and then theres the fact that if you were to "combine" the power, you wouldn't be able to use all of it, because unless the CPU and GPU were equal in power, one would be bottlenecking the other. And look at the PS2, it's "power" was so hyped up that it was a blatant lie what they told people it was actually capable of.
  3. Dude thats cause they also have http://www.maxconsole.net/ Guess they don't care to have both.
  4. I should lock this thread so it disappears, just because of the suckage factor of this series being milked so horribly........
  5. I'm from Canada, and theres no way in hell I'm buying from Foundmy.com......I've already decided on Eurasia, it's gonna cost me $64 incl shipping by getting it from them.
  6. Please, explain just what in the hell is the point then? If you're gonna do the LPC Rebuild, why bother even spending the money on the Xapter? 90% of the install work on a 1.6 is the LPC Rebuild.
  7. Update: Qoobchip.com has provided a comparison chart for their 2 chips and the Viper. I think it's plain to see that the obvious "winner" is the Qoob chips. http://www.qoobchip.com/chart.htm
  8. Not touching.......contains IE (HOW!?), so it is contaminated. I only run IE to use Windows Update, and Microsoft SHOULD be forced to make that damn site compatible with other browsers, it's such BS!
  9. I'm reading the thread there asking what users are buying of the 3. I love some of the comments total flocking morons make. Theres plenty more stupidity in the thread, infact almost all 180+ comments are blatently AOLer stupid. Others pertaining to PS3/Xbox 360.......but thats not what THIS thread is about.
  10. Wow, it took TX long enough to finish the damn Xapter for the 1.6, I thought it would never get done. I guess the SP.I.C.E kinda gave them the kick in the ass they needed.
  11. I wouldn't do this normally, but I thought maybe someone here runs their own video game accessories shop, or knows someone who does and could use this stuff. If you do know someone that this would be of interest to for wholesale reasons, please inform them. I'm moving in 2 months and this HAS TO GO. I've got a bunch of stuff up on Ebay I'm offloading to simply make my money back and get rid of it all. ALL of these items are brand new, unpackaged NOS that I MUST get rid of. Sega Dreamcast Controller Extension Cable Lot of 8 NEW Sega Dreamcast S-Video Cable Lot of 9 NEW Sega Dreamcast AV Cable Lot of 11 NEW Sega Genesis AV Cable Lot of 10 NEW Sega Saturn S-Video Cable Lot of 11 NEW Sega Saturn AV Cable Lot of 9 NEW Gameboy Advance 4 Player Link Cable Lot of 11 NEW Nintendo Gamecube S-Video Cable Lot of 10 NEW NOTE: THIS IS NOT A SIMPLE "PIMPING" OF MY OWN PERSONAL AUCTIONS. THIS IS STOCK THAT WAS FROM MY STORE, WHERE I SOLD THESE ACCESSORIES TO PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU FOR AS CHEAP AS I COULD. I'M MERELY TRYING TO OFFLOAD THEM ONTO ANOTHER SELLER, SO DON'T GET ANY IDEAS AS TO POSTING YOUR OWN AUCTIONS HERE. P.S. - Gamecop, I'll understand if you still find this inappropriate, and wash it away on me. But I felt this was a slightly different circumstance than simply advertising personal belongings for sale. P.S.S - Topic is locked, because there is no need for additional comments.
  12. Nope, the only adapter compatible with the 1.6 is the SP.I.C.E from Xenium.....supposedly. As for the drive, totally. You can put a plain ol' drive from your PC in there, mind you it simply won't read retail Xbox games, cause of the firmware.
  13. Dude....he said before 2 was even released, that 2 was going to be it. You can't stop making something that sells so well........ And I'm glad this one picks up after 2, I hated the fact that Snake wasn't the main character in it, and the ending left me going "huh?"
  14. Ok lets start this off by saying, I'm getting one. A Qoob Pro. This is kinda old news, it's been posted in other places like.......a month ago, at least. And theres a couple reviews floating around. But I saw no mention of it here, so I'm gonna give it a go. http://www.qoobchip.com/ There are 2 versions of the chip, I'll list em and their features below. Qoob Pro Features: + Direct boot of all media, without swapping! + Supports all regions PAL / USA / JAP + On-board MP3 Player included + Super easy USB upgrade system (USB transfer cable included) + DVD Disc upgradeable + Network(*) upgradeable + Bios selection/control supported + Supports all retail hardware (DOL-001 USA, JPN, EUR and DOL-101) + Fastboot of original discs + Compatible with "GCOS" and other IPL replacements, allowing homebrew development via SD card (**) and/or network (*) + Comfortable easy to use Windows PC flash software (in download section) + Supports homebrew and open-source coding + Integrated media compatabilty check (checks all sectors of inserted media) + Streaming Audio Fix + Integrated status LED + Easy Installation, only 6 wires (no soldering on qoob chip required, special cable included) + Multicolor graphical user interface for easy operation + Supports Mini/DVD-R, Mini/DVD+R + 16MBit on-board Flash to store homebrew applications + High secure - low power Actel FPGA + Packed in a stable carboard box including all wires, 3D Sticker and USB transfer cable (*) BBA required (**) SD card adapter required Qoob SX + Supports direct boot of all media, without swapping! + Supports all regions PAL / USA / JAP + DVD Disc upgradeable + Network(*) upgradeable + Bios selection/control supported + Supports all retail hardware (DOL-001 USA, JPN, EUR and DOL-101) + Fastboot of original discs + Compatible with other IPL replacements, allowing homebrew development via SD card (**) and/or network (*) + Supports homebrew and open-source coding + Integrated media compatabilty check (checks all sectors of inserted media) + Streaming Audio Fix + Easy Installation, only 6 wires (no soldering on qoob chip required, special cable included) + Multicolor graphical user interface for easy operation + 1MBit on-board Flash to store homebrew applications + High secure - low power Actel FPGA + Including ESD-bag, installationwires and 3D Sticker (*) BBA required (**) SD card adapter required Ok so after checking out reviews, and going over the features and specs for the chips. It's safe to say that if you're interested in nothing more than playing your backups, go with an SX. If you're interested in Dev'ing or doing more with your Cube (ie: Storing multiple DOL files right on the chip for whatever reason) OR you simply want the extra "stuff" get a Pro. From reading reviews, this chip seems to be considerably better than a Viper. But I am having a hard time finding ALOT of info, particularly some newer reviews since the 1.1 bios was released. The MP3 player thing seems pretty cool, but it's of no interest to me really. I do however want the 16Mbit flash and the USB programmer, as it just provides more options on what to do with the chip, and makes it easier to flash. I'll post back with more info and a complete review after I've obtained and fitted this thing in my Cube.
  15. Hmm but that doesn't show an angled shot. Maybe the vents are on the side of the bottom section there? Or maybe they've got some alien technology going on? Yeah, the guy in charge at Sony........is a Martian!
  16. Like I said in my previous post.......maybe I'm getting a little too overbearing. I think I may need some sleep.
  17. ROOFLES......every smart appliance you see out there is running nothing more than a simple PLC and WindowsCE or an equivalent. Trust me, not much cooling required for something with ON-DIE everything running at 33mhz. The line I run at work runs a rather large, in comparison PLC and WinCE, passive cooling only in the panel itself......and thats only because it's right beside a 350 degree oven. lol Anyway, they probably have a badass passive cooling solution coupled with an active one that doesn't require much ventilation. Oh and they mentioned it was running PowerPC (Whats with this? All 3 are running a PowerPC of some kind....) and they don't run nearly as hot as our loveable x86s. Regardless of that, where have we seen any pics of the BOTTOM? My satelite recievers vents are in the bottom, so too are they on my VCR.....and my DVD player. Why not on this?
  18. Right on buddy.......I'm more of a PC gamer than anything, and I'll tell you this. I play a good 20 commercial games on LINUX! Good ones too, like Quake 3, UT etc.....why? Because Linux pwnz joo! Sorry, I'm getting a little overbearing and easily excited. Maybe it's time to log off for tonight?
  19. They can, and if it's backwards compatible with the Xbox.......they will (It's the ONLY way) As for it being a media center, being a focal point with hombrew.........thats neither here nor there. Just because you can play movies, look at pictures, listen to music etc in their specialized little app, doesn't mean it's open to running unsigned code. Think again! teeeeheee!
  20. Actually, and I could be wrong here, but I don't think you can just add the cpu speeds together and get the comparison. Especially when dealing with multiple cores, how they're used and how they work together becomes extremely important to the practical "power" of the machine. So, even if those are the actual specs, it may not mean it's "stronger." I'm not trying to be an arse, but I'm just saying.. Maybe you should re-read my post, I believe I said "The simple math", I'm no dummy, I know doing the 2+2 thing doesn't = 4 in every case. Especially a case like this. Outside of that though, I'm willing to lay my money on 4 cores being more efficient than 3......making it the more powerful machine on that principle. But again, 2+2 doesn't necessarily = 4.
  21. Despite the silly ass "bean" buttons for X and Y, I think the Gamecube controller is by far the most ergonomical and comfortable controller ever. The SNES pad was pretty comfy, but what was there to compare it to at the time besides Sega's clunky ass giganti-pads? The stab-you-in-the-palms NES blocks. And I'm going off-topic here.....so please don't drag this out.
  22. No concrete specs. The press event was like "here is the Revolution and we'll tell you more stuff later." Nice, so they either have something crazy up their sleeves (A controller? I don't care what it brings that is so "new" or "cool" it's still just the controller!) or they're scared that they didn't do enough with their new system. I think it goes without saying that I really love Nintendo, and to hell with all the new age little bastards who weren't around in the days when it was just the big N and Sega duking it out, and have no respect for a well made game and just want to see violence and nudity.........in my world, Sony and Microsoft are outsiders. But I still own an Xbox
  23. To be honest, I'm giving it 3 months (3 months after the 3rd system hits the shelves) I want to see which one I want first, then I'll let my wallet decide which one I can have next. By then there'll be some games to help me decide, and a good look at the prices of all of them.
  24. Have we actually seen any concrete specs yet? Cause for those of you saying it's going to be far less powerful than Xbox 360 or the PS3....... Something I read a couple days ago stated that a company having something to do with it's development said it will be running FOUR 2.5Ghz IBM G5 Custom cores, the Xbox 360..........3 at 3.2 GHz. The simple math says Revolution = faster. Of course one component essentially means nothing, but both systems are running PowerPC cores. Makes em like siblings.
  25. I'm still laughing at the fact that some of you are actually buying into Sony's numbers there with processor comparison. Care to tell me how Sony managed to test Microsofts console to obtain these numbers? And where's the facts to back up those numbers? Oh and where's the impartial 3rd party to go "Uh huh, it's da truf!"? I think Microsofts campaign with the "on paper" stuff with the Xbox proved it meant nothing, because face it, the Gamecube IS more powerful on paper and off, not the Xbox.......but the games matter, and fact is, Xbox simply had/has more. I play what I want to, I don't drool over something and follow everyone elses lead like a lost little sheep. If you can afford it, buy all 3, I know I will if I can. Especially since I didn't get a PS2 (I did feel it was over-hyped, I was mad at Sony), now I can get this and still "technically" have a PS2. Stop being sheep!
