Trouble Running Windows Games on Linux
ken_cinder replied to razydude's topic in Nerd's Chatter [/nerds]
He is....... Problem looks to me, like a lack of or lack of support for, .NET Framework. Try installing .NET 2.0 (Anything newer apparently doesn't work right, or at all) http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?...on&iId=2586 OR (And I don't know if WINE will make use of it externally, you may need to use the Windows version IN WINE) install MONO - http://mono-project.com/Main_Page -
I wouldn't go that far, people should be allowed to speak whatever language they want. But we don't ban French advertisement in the rest of the country, infact we have to put up with bilingual instruction manuals and text even on food packaging. The things they do in that province, would spark an outrage anywhere else, people would literally riot if any sort of language law (no matter what language it was) was enacted somewhere else. We don't tell people in Ontario, they can't put up a sign that's in Hindu only. I'm not adverse to it either, if I'm interested enough I'll find out. I've been to a few Indian restaurants where I didn't have a damn clue what the sign or menu said, but if you're polite people will help you........nobody that speaks French only in Quebec is polite, NOBODY. I remember going to Montreal when I was 12 on a class trip. Got sidetracked on foot once, and asked 2 guys for directions (In English) after HEARING them speaking English. They pretended they couldn't speak English. Little did they know, at that time I could still speak decent French.......and I knew plenty of not so nice words too!

Ran into some troubles lately I thought I'd share some insight on, since Googling just led me to a plethora of "moron" posts all over the internet with suggestions that made zero sense. Mind you my solution (and the cause of the problem) is rather odd in itself. Was having trouble loading a few specific websites on my laptop, or any wireless device for that matter. I went through firmware changes on the router, resetting to defaults.........you name it, I tried it. Finally found that these sites work PERFECT with a wired connection, thus giving up the jig that it was a wireless problem. The question was "Why in the hell would they worked wired but not wireless?", and after a good hour of playing with settings, including MTU and fragmentation values, I had a "DING!" go off in my head. I had not too long ago altered my setup in the house. I put my cable modem downstairs in the living room with 1 wireless router, and my other router upstairs in my office as a repeater bridge for everything in there. What I did when setting them up, caused this chaos. I went from using TKIP encryption to using AES for some reason. I switched the encryption on everything back to TKIP, low and behold no more problems. I had switched to AES because so many insightful posts all over the internet state that AES has lower overhead AND is more secure than TKIP. After other testing, I've found this to actually be nothing but a load of bull$hit too BTW. So just incase you ever run into wierd happenings with your wireless that works fine if you connect wired to the very same router, look to your wireless encryption as the possible culprit.

Is/Are your system/s collecting dust?

Pretty much, I just sold my Modded Sega Saturn last night. A modded Xbox went out a few weeks ago. I'm eyeballing my Dreamcast and my N64.......... -
Won't do you much good without older ROMs too. You'll need to look for a "Rollback" torrent to correct the ROMs. As for the emulator, Joymonkey has an archive. http://www.joymonkey.com/

That's absolutely hilarious, considering the French version of Mass Effect was butchered beyond belief in translation and horrid voice acting from what I hear from people who's first language is french. What's even more hilarious, is how that $hitty language they speak in Quebec, can be called French in the first place. It's a bastardized french, one I refused to speak in school because I already knew Parisian french (One half of my family......). We really need to give them what they want, their Referendum..........only we throw them out on their asses, give 60% of their land to the natives, take every piece of military equipment they have etc etc. I f**king hate the province you live in dude......

Picking up 2 vintage Pachinko machines tomorrow
ken_cinder replied to ken_cinder's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
Nah not really, my basement is a mess. The TMNT is really the only working machine, but it needs new artwork (Too expensive though). The others I have are a Centipede clone that is the one I've torn apart, and I'm converting it to Aero Fighters, and my Sega Versus city that is in hiding, half torn apart, half painted with a partially installed Neo Geo 4 slot in one side and a MAME setup in the other. Going to take some time before everthing looks decent, it's a WIP right now. I'd never want a pool table anyway, too much money for something I wouldn't play much. Now a Foosball and/or Air Hockey table I'd go for, I do have the room for 1 or both of those, and at least 10 more arcade machines. -
Picking up 2 vintage Pachinko machines tomorrow
ken_cinder replied to ken_cinder's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
They are from the early 70s, they're like EM pinball machines. No crazy video or flashy stuff, just bells and lights. VERY loud though when you hit the jackpots, the bells ring as loud as one of those handheld bells if you shook it hard over and over with every ball that hits it (15 per jackpot on one machine) My daughter loves them, and I have spent hours playing them. They are put aside right now, because I have one of my arcade machines ripped apart in the basement. I just put new joysticks on my TMNT machine, new buttons are waiting at the post office for me. Soon as I've finished up with the arcade machines, the Pachinko's are getting mounted on the wall for play whenever anyone feels like it. They do need glass or plexi though, they only have 1 paper thin lexan sheet that doesn't do the intended job well. -
Sorry to hear all that. Are you going to go to school online? Is your wife still working? No I'm looking at going to school about an hour and a half away, to be a Marine Mechanic. I'll have to live up there during the week for 18 months. My wife is going to college for Addictions and Community Services. It'll be great if it all works out, she can get a job 10 minutes away from the area I would be working in, and I LOVE the beach.
-
Trying to get the necessary information together to go to college, nobody wants to cooperate and it took me a month just to get a breakdown on cost etc from the college, thanks to them still listing the program coordinator on their website, and putting you through to his voicemail when he hasn't worked for them in a YEAR! They finally realize that and give me another email adress, yet another person who doesn't work there anymore.......thankfully I still got a response (albeit delayed) from the actual coordinator with all the info I need. Now, after emailing 7 employers to get information regarding hiring/appreticeship, NOBODY has gotten back to me in a week. I'm bummed out, and flocking fed up. No work in the area, and I'm never working a dead-end job again anyway. School is my only real option, and it seems like I'm going to have to start bitchslapping people to get what I want.
-
Yeah, odd he hasn't logged in at all in 2 weeks.
-
HAHA! I'd be at the very bottom of the list, I have like 655 gamer points.

Does BeemEm require X under Linux? If not, why not fire up your favorite flavor of Linux, drop to Run Level 1 and run it there? Why have the overhead of another full blown emulator running and eating most resources up?

This NeoGeo cart is CRAZY!
ken_cinder replied to The Raincheck's topic in Arcade Emulators [/pc/arcade]
I picked up KOF 94 and Samurai Shodown for $10 each, and I have a 4 slot coming in the mail. If you really want one, the price isn't much. Owning a real arcade machine beats MAME hands down, even a MAME cab (Which I already have). -
Should I buy a new DC?

Oh no.......what did I do to deserve this!? Just kidding.... I recommend trying to adjust the pot on the GDROM laser, a very tiny adjustment could correct it and it will work for years to come. Make sure you read the resistance on the pot BEFORE adjusting, and only move in 5ohm increments and don't go outside of 20-30ohms in either direction! You can still find the odd replacement laser for sale too. I'm not adverse to fixing it for you, but you'd probably be able to get another for what it would cost in round trip shipping these days. A few years ago shipping was cheap enough I'd say otherwise. -
You need TORX bits. Pretty sure the ones for the case are #10's. You can rule out the spindle motor if the disc will spin up, but a bad logic board is still in the cards. Check the cabling and go from there.
-
12 - kernel - DVD parameters (PIO/DMA) Pop a disc in that puppy, and listen closely to see if it spins up. If it doesn't even do that, you'll need to open it up and make sure the PE cable on the back is not loose. If it's not and the drive won't spin up after checking cabling, you're drive is probably dead (Logic board suicide or spindle motor). Plenty to be had on the XS forums if you ask, and I think I have a couple myself. But the models I salvage and refurbish are more sought after Samsung SDG-605Bs, and fetch more $ than the others, as they read EVERYTHING. If your drive is dead though, let me know what it is I may be willing to A: Fix it for you B: Trade you a working drive for your dead one + a little $.

With the recent lack of activity, I think I personally could care less if a thread from 02 was ressurected......provided it has a shred of purpose. Oh and my favorite cheese DILL HAVARTI FTW!

Can't remember an arcade title
ken_cinder replied to lordevol's topic in Arcade Emulators [/pc/arcade]
Roc'n Rope? http://maws.mameworld.info/maws/romset/rocnrope Might help if you tell us the screen type. It's vertical (like most shmups) but does the screen scroll to the side or scroll up? Are you looking down on your character like you're kind of above them, or from the side (like Mario Bros)? -
stickman81, it's kind of pointless. For more than one reason, 1 requiring not even looking at the source. 1: Run it on Xbox Linux. Simple 2: The source makes use of M4, a macro processor. You'd have to have this underlying, which would require porting it as well, as part of the game. Can't see anyone bothering to go to all that trouble, for one game when #1 is perfectly feasible.

P.S. The slowdown in the original Double Dragon, happens on the real hardware, I used to own it.
