I could design a better site with my eyes closed, on crack (Which I've never tried btw, so I'd assume it would f**k me up LARGE!), while whacking off with honey on both hands (I've never tried that either, but I'd assume it would make using one or more hands for anything rather difficult) listening to classical or country music (Both of which hurt my ears). I could also come up with wittier comments than the crap on that site, without even putting any effort into it. If my wit was that shallow, I'd have my IQ tested and myself institutionalized for lack of HA-HA!

Freeware/Open Source Alternatives

Added Blender, did not add Safari. I knew of Safari already, but I did not add it because the Windows version is still a beta and has not had a stable release for Windows. Let me know when it does and I'll add it. -

Auction over, went to a fellow Canadian only a couple hours away from me (Shipping is considerably cheaper, so no wonder he was willing to bid higher). The auction ended at a staggering $67.66 USD, approx $71.30 CAD. 14.26x what I paid for it! Holy teh crap! -

Before I do that, can you even use it? It's NTSC, aren't TV's there PAL? Edit: I checked anyway, you're not going to want to bid. Shipping would be over $50 USD due to the size and weight. -
I think LG stands for "Land Grid" as those processors don't use pins but little "nubs" that sit in the socket. And the correct term is LGA775 for "Land Grid Array".

I feel sorry for you in that case.

I was hoping I'd get a good amount for it, and I expect it to go up even further. I've had some interesting emails about it from people who seem to be the crazed collector type, and they haven't bid yet but I assume they are watching the auction as there are 10 watchers. 9 hours to go. -
Ok, so I figured I would share and encourage the sharing of alternatives to oft bloated and costly software for (Usually) everyday use. Feel free to contribute to the list, I'll add it to this post. Just be sure to denote what the software is, and it's homepage. Windows 98/2k/XP ONLY! (I don't know anyone still using 95, ME counts as 98 and Vista only stuff is of no use to most people yet) Internet Browsers - Because Internet Explorer isn't Mozilla Firefox Opera Lynx - Text Browser Email Clients - Face it, Outlook Express has more holes than swiss cheese! Mozilla Thunderbird Anything else here people? Eudora is no longer developed, taken over by the Mozilla team. FTP Clients - Because a standalone app does a better job Filezilla WinSCP FireFTP (Firefox plugin, requires Mozilla Firefox) Microsoft Office Alternatives (Can I say it any different? Didn't think so) Open Office Art Programs - Because Corel and PSP are great, but not FREE GIMP DrawPlus (I haven't used this, but it looks decent) Picasa IrfanView 3D Modeling/Animation - 3D Studio Max is THE best, bar none. But it's INSANELY EXPENSIVE! Google SketchUp Anim8or Blender

I use Filezilla, have in the past use FlashFXP and CuteFTP, no comparison.......Filezilla for teh win. I also try to use Free/Open Source anywhere I can. I'm getting sick of cracking things all the time, and not only that, OS stuff seems to be better 90% of the time anyway. Maybe I should sticky a list of Free/Open Source programs in the Computer Stuff forum. You'd be surprised what you can do and better when it comes to things you need.

Never will I eat at McBarfy's again......their food is disgusting and the prices match. -
Not much a fan of anything newer than SFA, but I find the following somewhat entertaining. Dead or Alive 3 Mortal Kombat Armageddon Mortal Kombat Deception Fight Club (It's far from being in-depth, but it's fun) As for Soul Calibur II, I think it sucks. Even on hard it's too easy, and it's too short. Kind of hard to have a top 10 too, considering there is MAYBE 30 fighting games on the system and most of them suck REALLY REALLY bad. And a good 20 of them are ports of SNK crap (I hate SNK, bite me...they milk the crap out of things)

The end of mod-chips as we know it?

When are you Americans going to stand up for your rights? I see ALOT of people making a stand, in TEXT, but no real action. Circulate petitions and give them to your government reps in your areas/states. Write newspapers and other media sources. Hell go out into the streets and protest if you can get enough people together. Here in Canada, we sit on the front lawns of our government buildings and protest, sometimes mildly violently if necessary. -

Already put it on Ebay, figured I'll at least get double my money so screw it. I already have WAY too many systems in my apartment, I'm surprised my wife hasn't beaten me in my sleep with a Saturn or something. -
and for furries, racists, neets, lolis, nerds, major lulz and moot. Your point? It sucks and I wouldn't visit the site again, even if paid?

I just picked up a Sega Master System, complete and in the box, for $5! It has everything it came with, and everything works like it's new including the zapper. Has the Hang On/Safari Hunt cart, and Parlour Games. Too bad light guns don't work on LCD/Plasma TV's though, had to test it on the CRT in my bedroom. Question is, should I sell this thing on Ebay? I only see a few on there right now, and they have bids but it's days until they end so I'm not sure what something like this would net me. I'd rather not even waste my time selling it if I'm only going to get $10-$20 for it.

id Games now on Steam! With other related news!

Psst Quake 3 Arena it is (There is no other), and it's not surprising MS would do it, the Q3 port to Xbox was huge (Though never finished it appears, but it's pretty damn playable). I saw the video for that tech demo, didn't they say something about GIGABYTES of textures in huge XxY sizes? -

Power Supply always on even when computer is off!
ken_cinder replied to Alpha's topic in Nerd's Chatter [/nerds]
Check your bios settings. There are options in newer PC's for USB powering methods, which hold an AUX 5v line open to USB devices. Disable it, and your issue should go away. If they are disabled, there is something wrong with your motherboard (Or the bios, check for an update). -
Hmm I'm not sure how to put this...... Think of a chipset like a train station with multiple tracks leading to different destinations. The CPU, generally speaking, being the train yard where all the trains are kept. The chipset controls where all the trains go, how fast they go, and which order they go in. That do? P.S. Saying the chipset has nothing to do with your graphics is a severe understatement Gryph. You can't pair a chipset designed for a specific company with another, and expect similar performance. That's like pairing my Radeon Express 580X chipset with an NvIdia card, sure it'll work but it's features are designed around ATi cards and it controls the bus the cards run on. (Not to mention, Crossfire....)

You need to uninstall the drivers for the old card before putting the new one in. Doesn't matter if it's from the same company, series etc. After you do that, just pop the new card in and install the drivers for it.

There are several factors involved, but in general the "Burn at lowest speed" rule, is bull$hit. Tests on CD-Freaks and other places, have proven that lower speeds actually increase PI/PO errors. Not to mention write speed does NOT indicate read speed, despite what some stupid as f**k n00bs might tell you. Burn at the highest speed possible for the rated media. And use good media. If you're picking up 100 CD-Rs for $15, it's 99% assured you're getting cheap unreliable media. You get what you pay for. Secondly, make sure your burners firmware is up to date. There are media codes added to new firmware to properly identify media, as well as numerous fixes to those media codes and command sets.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Screenshots
ken_cinder replied to BlackKnight's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
While you need to know that I'm highly impressed as well, you should also know 2 things. 1: Those screenshots are not output size, they are downsized and cleaned up. 2: Because of number 1, if you've seen any shots in their native resolution captured from 1080p output, there are horrendous jaggies due to either no anti-aliasing or poor anti-aliasing. Given the horsepower the PS3 is purported to have, this should not be happening and I hope they clean things up for the release. Regardless, it looks beautiful.
