  1. OK... you may not be messed up at all. It sounds like you don't have a dashboard installed. The BIOS you used looks for dashboards in this order: 1. avalaunch.xbe 2. evoxdash.xbe 3. mxmdash.xbe 4. nexgen.xbe 5. xboxdash.xbe #5 is the standard XBox dash and if it doesn't find any of the first 4 on the C: partition then it boots the standard XBox dash. What you need to do now is burn a dashboard to a CDRW. Then you can put the disc in the XBox and it should boot that. Once you have the dashboard up and running then you can FTP into your XBox and install a dashboard.
  2. Are you saying that it boots up to the standard XBox dashboard like an unmodded XBox even with the chip on?
  3. OK... if you made a 1 MB BIOS then you couldn't have flashed just bank 1. The X2 chips have 2 banks. Each bank is 512KB, but they can be flashed in 256 KB chunks. A 1 MB BIOS would take up both Bank 1 and Bank 2. Now, is this a fairly new XBox? If so, then you should have listened to what PRican said since the BIOS you used does not work with v1.6 XBox's. So when you say the "MS screen", do you mean the XBox now freezes at the XBox Logo screen on both banks? If so then you may be in trouble. The only ways to fix that problem are to buy a new chip, buy or find someone with the programmer that allows you to attach the chip to your PC and flash it, or perform what is called a hot swap. In the case of a hot swap you need to find a friend with an X2 chip, open his/her XBox up, boot the XBox up, take their chip out while the XBox is on, turn the flash protection switch off, put your chip in and proceed to flash it. I've done this before when I had a bad flash and it works, but can be a bit tedious and nerve racking since you run the risk of ending up with two dead chips. BTW, Team Xecuter just released a new Beta X2 BIOS today that supports a v1.6 XBox's.
  4. Wireless controllers should be made with a switch to turn the rumble off and on. This way those concerned about battery life could switch them off. Logitech's wireless controllers for the PS2 and XBox are made this way.
  5. I say fake. I don't think Sony will make the mistake of only having two controller ports again. They took a lot of heat for that with the PS2. I think someone should step up and throw 6 ports on their system. All the systems basically just use USB protocols for their controller ports these days, so it should be very easy to put as many ports as they can fit. It would be great for sports fans.
  6. White consoles suck, IMO. They stick out in entertainment centers, which is where many people place them. Sure, they look great in pictures, but put them next to your black DVD player, black receiver/amp, black cable box, black VCR, etc... and it becomes an eyesore. All my electronic equipment is black or silver... including my PC and monitor which are also both black. Hell, even my cordless phone is black and silver.
  7. It would seem so, but the XBox 2 will need to be cracked first. Also, there is a question about backwards compatibility. All the emulators may need to be ported to the XBox 2 if it's not backwards compatible with XBox 1 software. I would actually prefer that the emulators be ported again since they would likely run better that way.
  8. This is pretty lame and Sony is getting hammer much more than they should. $90 Million USD and they have to stop selling PS2s? WTF? Lame. But OTOH, Sony probably should have just settled this the way MS and Nintendo did. So as lame as the whole patent is, Sony got themselves into this mess. Unlike others on this board, I really do like Sony, but they sure seem to do stupid crap on a regular basis.
  9. Yeah, the memory sticks are expensive. But if they had included a HDD then the price would be higher and people would be whining even more about the price. Plus it would just be one more part that could break. Then you would have the battery life shortened considerably because it would be using another moving part. Anyway, just buy memory sticks from SanDisk, they are quite a bit cheaper than the Sony brand. The point is though that it's a gaming machine first. That is what it does best. But the fact you can use it for other things is quite nice. And I don't really get how you can whine about the price of the PSP and then list a bunch of devices that are all as or more expensive than the PSP. Take the Creative Jukebox for example... you are actually talking about the Zen Media Center, correct? The jukebox is an MP3 player, the Zen Media Center is Creative's media player. I'm sure it's better for playing videos and other media, but it will also run you nearly $500. To sum it up, yeah, it would be nice if the memory sticks were larger and cheaper, but I bought the PSP primarily as a gaming machine. Other than gaming I'll likely make use of the MP3 function the most. I'll throw a hundred or so songs on large memory stick before trips... that will suit me just fine. If I had any real need for a more comprehensive MP3 player I would own one already, but I don't.
  10. Hmmm... gmail wouldn't load. A message pops up that says "Entering a secure site. Press X to continue"... then when I press X the PSP asks me which connection to use (i.e. which wireless connection set-up that I have saved on my PSP). So I select the one that allows me to browse the web and it takes me back to the initial page that loads when you follow the directions in the first post.
  11. The biggest problem right now is the loading speed. It takes a good 2 minutes or more for a page to fully load. But clearly when a real browser is released the PSP with its nice screen will make a pretty decent web browser. Just don't expect any miracles when trying to type in text. But some of you may be glad to know that I successfully loaded up some porn pictures (you know I had to try) [edit] Next I'll see if I can bring up my Gmail account.
  12. I'll see if I can download something. [edit] Well, I tried to download a zip file off my webspace and nothing appeared to happen. So either is can't save any files or it's limited to only certain file types... not sure.
  13. Haha.. it worked. I took me a while because I typed it in the first time and somehow when I when I exited the on-screen keyboard I lost what I had typed in and had to do it over. It does take a while to type stuff in using the on-screen keyboard. This is one situation where a touch screen like the DS would really come in handy.
  14. I made this post with my PSP!
  15. Yeah, it does load slowly. I'm sure it was only meant to browse the Wipeout Pure downloads section. The left shoulder button goes backward and the right goes forward like the arrows on your browser. The D-pad lets you scroll around pages and select buttons and text boxes. I'm going to see if I can make a post using the PSP....
  16. OK, the bathroom suggestion worked pretty good. The only problem is the PSP's screen is so dang shiny that you can see a bit of a reflection of the camera on the screen. I couldn't figure out how to prevent that. But here is the complete uncropped picture: Pic #3 BTW, that logo in the upper left hand corner is the Wipeout logo. It stays up in the corner the whole time.
  17. OK... taking pictures of screens is a bit tricky, but I took a couple. The first picture is just a nice clean shot of the screen with 1Emulation loaded up: Pic #1 For those that don't have a PSP, the green light on the left is the wireless activity indicator and the light on the right is the power indicator. But that picture is dark so it's hard to see the PSP. So here is a second pic with some light on the PSP: Pic #2 Unfortunately the picture came out a bit blurry, but you can clearly see the PSP.
  18. Hmm... I'll try right now. [edit] It works! Let me see if I can snap a picture. I'll see if I can get 1Emulation loaded up.
  19. There is one commercial (maybe the only one) that I have seen quite a lot over the past two days. I think it is supposed to be from the view of the PSP itself. It starts off with some Japanese lady placing the PSP in its box and then you see people take it out and start carrying it around, playing games, and listening to music. It ends with some guy putting the PSP in his gym bag (or some sort of bag). It's a decent commercial and does show some game footage, but I don't think they are making good enough use of the Playstation brand name. They briefly show the original Playstation logo at the start of the commercial, but that's about it. Most people are familiar with the logo, but I really think the should come right out and say "PlayStation Portable". The Playstion brand is hugely successful, they need to make full use of it.
  20. Well, if sales really were low, I think Sony only has themselves to blame. I didn't see a single TV commercial until after I already had a PSP in my hand. I don't get why they didn't start the advertising campaign earlier. Anyway, I agree with garageink, the PSP is freaking amazing. I'm amazed each time I fire up Wipeout Pure. But I think the momentum will build. A friend of mine went to see his family for Easter this weekend and he took his PSP. While there his brother bought one as did his sister and her husband after seeing his in action.
  21. It's innovative if nothing else. When I read reviews of games like Yoshi Touch and Go I am a bit intrigued. But I can't see myself playing a game like that very long. I just think drawing clouds could really only hold my attention for so long. A lot of the DS games seem like they would be a lot of fun with multiple players (this is if I could actually convince my friends to play a game where you draw clouds), but rather boring when alone. And that is a bit of a problem. One of the main reasons I even buy handhelds is so I have something to do when sitting in hotel rooms on business trips that I take on a regular basis. And I would just honestly take games like Twisted Metal or Wipeout Pure in that situation over most of the DS games anyday. Oh yeah, and even if the PSP had a touch screen I have serious doubts as to if I would even use it. I am rather anal about any sort of screen. I find the idea of touching screens completely abhorrent. My TV, PC monitor, GBA, and now PSP screens are all spotless at all times. I can't stand any sort of finger print or scratches. So I have serious doubts as to whether I could even bring myself to touch the screen. And on that note, for those of you that do own a DS, have you seen any signs of wear and tear from using the stylus on the touch screen? That was one of the things that concerned me about the idea when the DS was first announced. I can't help but picture those electronic signature dispays that places like Best Buy or UPS delivery men use... they are always scratched and faded to hell.
  22. Is this some kind of joke?
  23. I've got Wipeout Pure, but haven't played it much yet. I've mostly been playing Twisted Metal: Head On. I'm a huge TM fan (and fan of vehicular combat in general), so I find it to be a lot of fun.
  24. Correct me? Please. It was a misunderstanding of currency on both sides. Since your talking CND dollars and think anything over $40 is too expensive, then there are many games for the DS you won't buy either, correct? Since there a fair number of DS games above that price. Fine... whatever. You just don't get it. There a lot of games for the PSP that are NOT on consoles. And as I stated before you buy games for a portable because you want a portable game. The game also being on console has little to nothing to do with that.
  25. OMG... CND dollars.. sure. I'm talking USD. Watch this: Untold Legends: $40 pwned! Am I 1337 now? Spare me the leet speak drivel, you just wind up sounding stupid. The bottom line is many of the DS games are exactly the same price as PSP games. WTF? I didn't absorb that. I explained the reason behind it. The PSP supports game sharing, but it's simply not going to work for many games for the reasons I very clearly explained in my previous post. Sure, some games like Yoshi Touch n Go support the game sharing you are talking about, but look at it... it looks like a SNES game. There just isn't a ton of data that needs to be exchanged for that type of game. Most PSP games are simply a lot more graphically intensive than DS games... that means more data. In the end you will see some single disk multiplayers games for the PSP and you will see multi cartridge games for the DS. It all depends on the type of game and the developer. It has nothing to do with the hardware of the DS or PSP. Also, why would you go broke? You would only buy a single copy for yourself. It's up to your friends to buy their copies if thay want to play. If they don't... oh well, play on the internet. Your whole about going broke buying 4 copies makes zero sense. Congrats. [edit] I just checked and there are already games for the DS that require mulitple cartidges for multiplayer. Tiger Woods 2005 is an example of this... and, OMG, it's a port to boot. Who would have thought?
