  1. Not good. I preordered Star Ocean: The Last Hope International today. Yes, the EU release date is on Friday. Also, enjoying Dead Space tremendously, although the scariness kinda prevents me from playing it late at night with headphones. Will get BioShock 2 once the pricepoint drops at least a dozen Euros.
  2. Yeah, Fusion doesn't have an option to specify individual ROM paths. Well, you can always contact the developers and ask for such a feature.
  3. The latest Kawaks version is 1.61, which uses Alternate Scanlines as the default video blitter, hence the scanlines you see in game. Change the active video blitter in the Video menu and see which one you like the best. Doesn't hurt to experiment with the other video options as well to see wha they do, especially options that manage stretching. I'd also suggest changing the sound frequency to at least 44.1kHz (well, ok, it's a matter of preference, but the Neo-Geo was able to mix sound at 44.1kHz anyway). Also make sure that the Console Mode under Neo-Geo settings is set to use Arcade, if you want Arcade (although some peculiarities in the BIOS used might override the setting). Last, some games might run too slow, so overclock the 68000 processor frequency under the Misc menu a value that you feel comfortable with. Overclocking can introduce some unwanted side-effects, though.
  4. Oh, they'll do everything the old one did, and more, and better. Yes, MAME is an arcade emulator and supports all Neo-Geo games known to man as well as well as a few unofficial Neo-Geo CD --> Neo-Geo MVS conversions IIRC. The only real problem I have with MAME emulating Neo-Geo games is that after a couple of updates pertaining to how MAME handles the Neo-Geo BIOs files resulted in the games constantly running in their respective Console mode instead of arcade, with no clear indication how to switch between the two. Chalk it up to me not bothering to investigate the matter further. Every emulator that supports Neo-Geo games supports switching the emulated hardware between console and arcade. As for your romsets being useless, that is and isn't the case: Many of the older games have sets that are exactly the same data-wise, since the games have never features any form of copy-protection nor has their been any issues with the actual dump that would require a redump years later. The only thing you need to do (if you want to go down that road) is to rename the files in the romset to match the naming scheme in use these days. For help with that, use the MAWS MAME repository (http://maws.mameworld.info/maws) that lists all games supported by MAME, along with the full contents of each romset, their sizes and CRC/hash values among other useful things. You also need to make sure that the CRC values listed for each file in MAWS match what you have in your romset (CRC being a fingerprint of sorts, ensuring that the file hasn't been altered). You can see the CRC column in WinZip, WinRAR, etc. by enabling said column in the program's preferences. It's also given that'll you'll run into a situation where the entire romset is outdated, and you need to replace the whole thing. Now, the rules of this place prevent us from flatout telling you where to get those,, since they are copyrighted works, and we'd be assisting in copyright infringement. Yeah, even if the chances of repercussions are slim, we don't play that game here for any reason. After all, we are denizens of the Internets (I have one and so do you), so Googling should be your second nature. Getting proper results isn't even as difficult as some might think. Finally, you need the Neo-Geo BIOS files (often in one romset), and the ones you used in NRX don't make the cut. BIOS files fall under the same category as the above, so watch what your asking. You should be looking for the Neo-Geo BIOS package designed for MAME, as that one seems to be used in all the other emulators as well, be it FBA, Kawaks, etc.
  5. Like I said earlier, if there something wrong with the set, switching to another version of the same emulator never helps. The fact remains that NRX is more basically a relic that uses obscure and non-standard sets in order to get things rolling. It was the biggest thing since sliced bread when it first came out in 1999, and indeed emulated the arcade machine and console with unprecedented accuracy and compatibility. But that was 11 years ago. Seriously. We've tried to coax you into switching to more recent and better emulators, and overhaul your romsets to the accepted "standard" in the process. Yes, MAME can be relatively complex, but complexity is often subjective when it comes to emulators. FBA and Kawaks are less complex, but again, everything is subjective. Besides, nothing should prevent you from fiddling out with their respective options and trying to grasp the chances they make and why. It's not like these emulators will cause your computer to implode if you happen to check the wrong box. Besides, we're here to help people like you, so if you don't understand what a particular options does or why the emulator behaves the way it does, ask us. Personally, I haven't been here for seven years just to show off my trolling skills and stiff posture, you know.
  6. Check my homepage. I think I have 5.4 there.
  7. What version of NeoRAGEx are you even running? Official development stopped with 0.6c IIRC; but since then there have been quite a few unofficial builds that added more games to the gamelist and introduced some additional fixes. The latest and last one is 5.4e or something like that.
  8. IIRC, F10 or F11 is what'll soft-reset the machine or then just pushing F1 to enter the Test menu and come back. Of course, the only way to get rid of dipswitch settings is to delete the Hiscore file. Presumably anyway. It's been so long since I've used NRX, so that the specifics start to be a blur. As general advice, you should really start moving on from NRX and switch to something more current. FBA and Kawaks are the easiest to work with, but the downside is that most (if not all) romsets that worked in NRX do not work "as is" in these newer emulators. As expected, most romsets designed to work for these newer emulators also won't boot and run in NeoRAGEx either. All Neo-Geo games released in 1999 and later, starting with Garou, need non-decrypted romsets and have to be patched/hacked in order to run on NRX. Post the contents you your Double Dragon romset, if only just for kicks.
  9. If NeoRAGEx goes directly to the crosshatch/hardware tests after the initial boot (and doesn't get out of that no matter what), no amount of dipswitch fiddling or soft-resetting will fix that. Yes, the game is "basically" running, but is stuck because the romset is incompatible with NRX for whatever reason. I'm pretty sure that NRX saves the Test Menu options along with game-specific hiscores in its HISCORES directory, in .brmc files. If I'm misundertanding the situation, then I'll apologize and exit from the back promptly.
  10. Kega Fusion should offer everything you'll ever need when it comes to Genesis/MegaCD, and Gens doesn't really hold a candle to it. Plus, Gens is old which might explain compatibility issues with Vista. If Kega Fusion gets the same results, then you'd better start looking at your video card drivers.
  11. Regarding SvC, the the problems you describe suggest that the romset you have is not the "right" romset for the emulator that you use. If you are using the NeoRAGEx emulator, you are most likely trying to run a romset of SvC that hasn't been properly stripped of its protection mechanisms and hacked to run on NRX. What exactly happens when Double Dragon refuses to boot?
  12. I've never had much trouble with RapidShare, apart from the mandatory waiting period for non-paying users. I assume RapidShare has a preset slot number for each geographical location (or something like that) and Brits just happen to get the short end of the stick. Personally, I don't like RapidShare that much, because there's just too many limitations even if they're only minor on my end. I prefer FileSend, Hotfile, MegaUpload, etc.
  13. There is no user validation in place at the moment AFAIK. Too much work for us, plus we still don't have access to the Admin CP.
  14. It's not really Sonic Team's fault, at least not all of it. Based on past interviews with those involved with Sega and Sonic Team, it was mostly Sega's retarded suits and executive meddling that played a huge part in driving Sonic to the dirt. Basically, they said "do this and this, and it's great. If you don't, we'll cut your development budget etc.". Often times developers do not have the creative freedom they wish they had. It's very common from someone higher up to step in and tell devs that market research indicates this and this are currently hot and driving the market, so put lots of that into the game and ditch the original plans.
  15. Oh yeah, I forgot they made that XML format change a while back.
  16. Yeah, I thought the same thing. Considering how poorly Sonic Unleashed did at retail, it must have opened a few eyes over at Sega. If "Project Needlemouse" turns out to be what fans have wanted for so long, maybe Sega can finally shrug off all that bile the fans have been spitting at them. Out of all the 3D Sonics, I liked Heroes, and even that game has pretty serious issues at times.
  17. Do not keep the cheat file inside a compressed archive; extract the file to the MAME base directory. Only ROM and BIOS sets are supposed to be kept inside archives, nothing else. It's been like this as long as I can remember, so this kind of behavior is hardly new.
  18. It's usually the signatures that are the dead giveaway for these types - and their prolific registration spree, which the Internet can verify in a matter of seconds. They're getting way smarter and more human-like, I'll give them that much credit. With profile pictures and all. Besides, I've never met anyone so n00b whose first line of business after registering on an message board mainly centered around emulation and gaming is to ask what to wear for Valentine's.
  19. Yes. Google the screenname and take a look at some of the results.
  20. A spambot playing tricks on our members? It's more likely than you think.
  21. You need to write your own driver for the game (for MAME or any other arcade emulator), if you wish to play it. If you don't know how, that's another thing entirely.
  22. I played the demo last night, and I can't wait to get the full game.
  23. Are there any notable extras after the game is completed?
  24. Correction: People were loading Linux distros onto the PS3, not just any OS. The earlier PS3 models' backwards compatibility came from the PS2 hardware being in the console - Sony took the PS2 hardware out in the later models, thus axing PS2 backwards compatibility. Besides, considering the complexity of the PS3 hardware, it would take a lot more than installing Linux and getting a PS2 emulator for it to run PS2 games in the PS3. P.S. Please refrain from gravedigging threads that are a year old.
  25. It's been ages since I've played a slight-sim of any kind, and quite frankly, I find them boring unless it's something akin to Sky Odyssey or Ace Combat.
