A standard boot shows a plain b/w Nintendo logo that scroll down from the top (or the bottom, I forget)of the screen and stops at the center of the screen, accompanied by a "ding" sound. After that whatever cart is in gets loaded. Turn on the handheld without a cart inserted, the Nintendo logo is replaced by a black bar.

The N64 version is not only crippled by the N64's own hardware (tech side of things sucks hard), but also because no emulator regardless of plugins emulates the game right.

Agreed. You need to work far too hard to escape a cycle like this and for most people its not even possible to try. Very likely an issue with either nullDC itself (that is, you can't fix it), the CD image you have is corrupt, or nullDC doesn't like your sound hardware/drivers.

I'm using nullDC. I haven't tried it with Chankast yet. I shouldn't even consider using Chankast.
