  1. Update: It's started to rain again. The wind has picked up as well. The storm is about 80 miles off the coast. By morning crap should really be flying. I don't intend on sleeping as long as the power is operational. Hopefully the Internet will also work when the power is on.
  2. The Superdome is built to withstand 200 mph winds and about 35ft storm surge.
  3. Yeah, on Tuesday I'm going to shoot over to the Red Cross and see where they need my help.
  4. That's what Terminator said but he went and sunk himself in molten liquid...don't you die on us Gryph!! *sob* /me starts Gryphon Klaw relief fund [Donate credits to Sturmvogel for Hurricane Katrina Fund] <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You have an interesting point. But I promise I won't jump into any molten liquid. The news stations are just showing pictures of traffic so I jumped online to check the weather. The power is expected to out during the middle of the night.
  5. Not forever. They'll pump the water out but it will take a while. They have some really advanced pumping stations. Ok, this may be my last post of the evening. I'll be back.
  6. Update: I'm still alive. It's drizzling right now. No wind. The storm is 200 miles away. One of my mother's friends who evacuated at around 11 this morning was at a town which is about 2 hours away at 5 PM. Traffic is a flocking nightmare and that's on a usually deserted highway. Another friend just called to say that they're leaving now. They'll probably get stuck in lots of traffic too. Both of those families are on the way to Houston. Hopefully the power and internet sticks around for a while.
  7. No, it's peta. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petabyte
  8. Nah, we aren't going anywhere. If you want to check the weather in my town you can go here: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ifps/MapClick.php?...ix&CiTemplate=1 As you can see this as bad it gets: Now I just hope that forcast doesn't change for the worst.
  9. Update: The rain is now starting very hard. I can barely see the tree outside my window. The wind isn't too bad though. I wonder how long it will be till power goes out.
  10. Check out a cool satellite photo of the storm: http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/lookingat...05_katrina.html Extra large version (6.9 mb): http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/126285m...a_082705_lg.jpg
  11. The nearest gal would my sister or mother. That's just flocking sick. I'll have to search around for one. Weather update: It's raining. Not much wind.
  12. Blog updated. No pictures though. :[ But that stream is video and audio. You could try downloading the non-stream version from here: http://www.viralmemes.com/videos/nsn-3204-02-220.wmv It's a little over 18 mb.
  13. Update: Latest National Hurricane Center reports show a slight shift to the west for the path. crap. That is what I was afraid of. Now we might actually get hurricane force winds.
  14. I highly recommend you watch this streaming video from a PBS show to understand why exactly New Orleans is in danger. mms://video.pbs.org/general/windows/wgbh/nova/nsn-3204-02-220.wmv This is pretty much exactly the situation New Orleans is in right now.
  15. The winds are up to 175 now. According to this there is a mandatory evacuation for my parish...we were unaware of such a thing. In any case, we aren't going anywhere. http://www.lsp.org/RoadandIncident.nsf/655...74?OpenDocument
  16. Update: The rain has begun. A little stronger than a drizzle. It should be picking up soon.
  17. I'm curious as to why e scratched out the processes...what could he have been doing?
  18. Update: I was just watching the news and they showed a nice detailed path of the hurricane with the approximate wind probablities. There were 3 rings, a 45 mph ring, a 55 mph ring, and a 75+ mph ring. My town is in the 55 mph ring, however, if the storm shifts a tad to the west then we will probably be in the 75+ mph one. This is quite exciting.
  19. On the news they just said that all services will most probably go out tonight so that means no electricity, no running water, no sewage, no nothing.
  20. It's pretty odd how it went from a minor storm to the storm of the century in 2 days. And this pretty much half way through the season! It would suck if more storms came. Goddamit, this officially sucks.
  21. Hot crap it's a Category 5! New Orleans has a mandatory evacuation. Luckily, we are farther away so we should be safe. I hope. This thing is going to tear some crap up!
  22. Well...this storm is going to flock some crap up. We're pretty much in the direct path so that sucks. It's also one of the biggest storms to hit since 1969. This storm could very well be the one that submerges New Orleans like those worst case scenarios say.
  23. That email is priceless. ma dick betta den urz. What a moron.
