Those are probably the earlier models. There are more models that read CD-Rs than those that don't.

Apparantly Nero 6 isn't as good as Nero 5 at burning images. And if your CD-R has Buffer-Underrun Protection, you can usually burn it at full speed.

Ofcourse there's a difference, you think they would give it different name for the hell of it!? The HKT-3030 doesn't read CD-Rs. It's the firmware update to the HKT-3020. The 3030s were made around the end of the Dreamcast. According to Cominus, anything before Nov. 2000 is safe and is almost 100% HKT-3020.

Oh god...all the specs for all Dreamcasts are the same. It's just the model number that you have be wary off. Don't get the HKT-3030, get the HKT-3020.

The PC version is worse and the XBOX version wasn't any good either...

If you're not an audiophile then you don't need that Audigy 2. Just make sure you get a sound card that has 5.1 support and you should be fine. I checked out that case and it looks pretty fancy. For a budget of <$1000 I'd go for a plain one that's hella cheap. As Cominus said you didn't include RAM, but what processor are you getting? I'm sure you'll just use your old keyboard and mouse. What about a hard drive? Are you going to use an old one too?

Well yeah but those games are also for Dreamcast. So Chankast already has that covered. And for an alpha those games play pretty damn well. Atomiswave is more important because that is what all the new SNKP games (KOF, Metal Slug, Sam Sho, etc.) will use. Bring on the Atomiswave!

... CPS-3 is nothing like Dreamcast. However Atomiswave and NAOMI are like the Dreamcast and have the ability to play CPS-3 games. But I would like to see a CPS-3 emulator too.

Super Smash Bros. Melee sucked! I hated that game with a passion. There was something about it that made me hate it... I preferred the original one for N64. StarCraft gets my vote because that game is actually good. And DragonKeeper, the FF series (especially FFVII) is the most fanboyish game ever.

Two of my Matrox drives have clunked out before the warranty period ended. And my friend's 120 gb WD broke...twice. So both those companies suck.
