yeah I've read that before. although I don't always agree with Graffin. there isn't any denying he is a smart cat and a true leader in the punk scene. as long as we all understand spiky hair and a blink182 album are not punk then we're on our way to true enlightenment, heheh. Well, I haven't read that article all the way through, but speaking as someone who used to be into the punk scene (but would never have the nerve to have called myself 'punk'), it seems to me that writing a manifesto on 'punk'ness' is kind of refuting the whole idea. Because you can only truly be a punk if you don't consider yourself a punk. You can only truly be a punk if you don't give a damn whether other people consider you to be punk or not, or indeed WHAT you think about them. There is no true 'punk fashion', there's no one style that can be called 'punk music'; in fact, by its very definition, any music later than 1990 cannot be considered punk. Because punk was a revolution of music, it was a protest over what the first wave of punk saw as the wanky 70's 'prog-rock', guitar-solo-filled, musical oddysees that were produced by bands like Led Zeppelin, etc... etc...One of the biggest original punk bands, 'the clash', most of their songs most 'modern punkers' wouldn't even recognise as punk. So to me, as soon as punk music became defined by the record companies, and therefore the record companies started exploiting the genre for all it was worth, punk music died. I remember that brief period when punk was in high-fashion. When I saw a 'designer punk' outfit full of extra zippers and tears in the fabric, but selling for TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! on the news, I was ANGRY. Dammit, those holes were in the fabric because punks couldn't afford new clothes, you can't rip up a jacket and sell it for two grand! That's ruining the whole essence of punk music. So to conclude, punk music has died in the arse, but hey I think we were all imagining those ideals of not-selling out and so on, considering the original famous punk band, the Sex Pistols, during the late 1990's went on a tour called the "give us your money" tour, or something like that. And the 'dead kennedys' (appart from Jello) sold one of their songs for a 'just jeans' ad. Therefore, money (and pop-punk) has ruined the entire punk scene.

Hmm...so what political leanings DON'T piss you off, exactly?

The hitman series are definitely cool games, but they're definitely hard. They're totally unlike fps's because the emphathis is on sneaking and not getting caught. But with some of the early levels, like in the first game when you're sneaking around a palace full of yakuza and trying to kill their boss, the tension is HUGE - and it's also great fun!

Hmm...I only have rvschool.zip and it's in English. I didn't know I needed jgakuen. You don't. You'll need it only if you have a sudden urge of playing Rival Schools in japanese. My bad, oh well I was close enough!

Just look for a program called "anyDVD". This is the best little prog I have ever found: what it does is to remove the macromedia copy protection on DVDs and it can also remove those annoying copy protection messages. Then get a DVd burning program that can automatically shrink DVDs - I use cloneDVD. This program can burn EVERYTHING from a dvd, including one subtitle language and one sound track. The downside is it won't burn copy-protected DVDs - which is why you need anyDVD. The funny thing is they are both made by the same company - he he he. With those two programs, burning DVDs is a BREEZE.

Does File Sharing Really Hurt The Music Biz?
random guy replied to Alpha's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
I voted no, but I wish there was a "who cares? f*ck 'em" option. And here is why: first of all, do you notice that the only people who speak out about file-sharing are rich bastards? I mean MetallicA for crying out loud! They probably wipe their arses with $1000 dollar notes! In fact, I think you'll find that alot of not-so-famous bands (even those signed by record labels) would be all for their music being shared. Firstly because, unless they're in the record companies buddy-list, they won't get any airplay on the radio (the record companies are too busy endlessly plugging britney Spears, or pink or whoever happens to be popular at the moment), and so if their music is shared it means they're reaching an audience that they wouldn't otherwise reach. Second of all, they can't rely on the record companies to advertise them (they're too busy plugging pink still), and so word-of-mouth is their best friend. Allright, that was kind of like the first reason, but anyway... But here's the main reason: I am sick and tired of being treated like a consumer. For people who read the above article, did anyone else notice this quote: Goddamn it! How can people who don't by CDs be considered part of the 'MARKETPLACE'??? That's all we are to these advertising and marketing boffins - customers. People who brainlessly shell out the bucks for the latest funky cd just because the record company poured millions of dollars into brainwashing people to buy it!!! THAT'S why I don't care if the record companies lose $1 or $1 billion to file-sharing! They bloody well deserve it for treating us like mindless consumers in the first place! -
People who are racist People who are prejudiced in any way The French Just a classic joke there. I didn't mean it. I dunno, I do get pissed off by prejudiced people, and when I have to wait for my computer to load, and right-wing politicians manage to piss me off pretty much every time I see them (but then again, they ARE politicians I kind of get annoyed at people who write SMS-style (ie R U ok? C U L8R) when they don't have to. Yeah, anyone who uses the letter U to mean you when they're not getting charged by the letter pisses me off. Also, SPAM, pop-up ads, spyware... Just the usual things that piss off an internet-addict, really.

Yeah, what he said . That's pretty much exactly what I was going to say, although I will say that to me it feels like you have more control over a 3D game - to me it feels more like you're actually controlling the fight. So 3D games have a lot of potential, but like people have said, they need to be sped up. I've always felt that something else that would be cool is a PS2 ninja game, where the left analogue stick controls your attacking moves, and the right analogue stick controls your blocking moves. For example, if you move the analogue stick from up to down you'd do a big slash down, but your opponent could parry that if he angled his sword correctly to block it using the right analogue stick. Did anyone play 'die by the sword'? That sort of control, only 3rd person not 1st person.

The true spirit of humanity should not be competion, but co-operation. That'd put an end to all wars and stupid conflicts, and usher us into a new world of peace and prosperity. That's why I play for fun (although wiping the floor with my little brother used to be very fun )

OMG that is some funny stuff. Hahaha, that site made me laugh my tits off. Especially when I read this comment: Is it just me, or does that sound really racist? Like, you're my friend because you are so unlike people of your own race that I can get along with you. Well, that's what I get from that comment anyway. [ps I've just been reading the letters page and I think that it was actually a 'spoof' site. If it's a spoof, it's a work of genius, but if its for real, then that is very, very SAD.]

goldenaxe? that was a 4 player arcade game and they could cast spells. not sure =o No, that wasn't it for sure. This was a two player game where you could choose one of 3 characters. And it was modern-futuristic, no axes or stuff like that. I might know what you're talking about... Was it like...Gun-something? Hmm...even if any of you guys tell me the name, I wouldn't recognize it. It was so long ago but it was damn fun. All TMNT games were great for multiplayer. I was always Donatello, what a badass. Is he the one with the walking stick or the pizza? I think I went for Raphiyell (however you spell it). TMNT can never be beat, have any of you guys played the new one yet? It was Raphael. I should know, because my brother's name is Raphael. He wasn't named after a ninja turtle though, he was called that because when my brother was born, he had his umbillical cord wrapped around his neck. That is a very dangerous way to be born, and often leads to the death of the child. Luckily, our doctor was really good, and saved his life. So we called him 'raphael' because the name means 'saved by God'. But everyone calls him Rafe.

Also, some "roms" are actually just language translations of the original. If this is the case then you need both roms to play it. For example, to play the English-translated version of Rival Schools, you need both rvschool.zip and jgakuen.zip in the "roms" directory.

Wow, I both envy and pity you! You have to go through all those exams (which I'm not looking forward to) but you're almost FINISHED, for now! How I would love a holiday...../dreams

Oh man, my finals aren't until June/July, but I tell you I had a hell of a time last time. Our finals stretch over 3 weeks so I spent about 23 days studying from when I woke up to when I finally got to bed. I don't remember taking a break at all, except to eat, sleep, and sometimes scream silently just kidding about that last one. The worst one was I had to take a law class for my degree, and I didn't know the first thing about law before I started that class, and the classes were SO BORING and they were on at like 5:30 pm and my last class that day was at 2:30pm, and the class went for two hours. But they were recorded by the uni and you could watch them from home by streaming or any time once they were recorded, so I usually went home after my 12:30 class, and kept telling myself I'd watch them on my days off. I hardly did. Come exam time I was freaking out that I'd fail the class because I hardly did any work for it at all apart from the essay and speech, I rarely (read: never) studied for it in other words. and it's the heaviest weighted class towards my degree so I wanted to do well. So I had to listen to all of the lectures. Back to back. Even the ones I'd already sat through. 12 lectures back to back. Even after I sat the exam I was freaking out I'd failed it and it ruined the first few days of my holiday. However, when the results finally came out it turns out I got a distinction (I don't know how your respective college systems mark things, but in Australia it goes, from worst to best, fail, conceded pass, pass, credit, distinction, high distinction). :Phew: I can't describe the relief I felt when I found that out . Man, uni is about 200x more stressful than high school!!!11! Aaargh, I tell you, all my exams were in the same place, and when I got back to uni this semester after not going to the uni for THREE MONTHS, I got chills down the back of my spine when I saw the bridge I had to walk under to get to the exam area. Literally, I'm not kidding, I involuntarily hunched my back, and had butterflies in my stomach. It was like a non-drug induced flashback! I still get chills just writing about it! This semester, I only have 3 classes, and one of the tests will take place the week before exam week, so it won't be as bad hopefully. Which is good. Edit: I forgot to tell you why I was freaking out so much about that law exam! It's because the exam was worth 70% of my final grade for that class!!!!!11!

Are You Going To Play Games Forever?
random guy replied to random guy's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
Can I ask, who voted no? I can't tell from the posts. -
Here's a good question - do you see yourselves playing games for the rest of your life? This is a poll of defiinites - no 'maybe' answers allowed: you just have to ask yourself, at this point in time, do you see yourself playing games forever?

Yeah, my parents don't like the fact that I still play video games. They think it takes time away from studying and school work. It's so annoying. parents like that don't seem to understand that working and studying for 100% of the time is a sure-fire way to get a nervous breakdown. The only times I study day and night is when I am revising for exams, other than that you NEED a break otherwise not only will you get a nervous breakdown, you'll make mistakes in your work and be too tired to notice them. If I didn't have games, and this forum, to distract me I'd probably be drinking like a fish because I need something to relieve the stress of uni. Games just happen to be the perfect stress-releiver. To me there's nothing better than beating up or blowing the sh*t out of something in a controlled, simulated environment to releive the stress of a day at uni. Edit: re-reading a few of these posts got me thinking. The reason why parents call all of our consoles gameboys (or nintendos or playstation or whatever) is because they never had any first-hand knowledge of these consoles themselves. Given that many of us have made pledges right here on this forum that we'll play games forever, what will our attitude to gamesbe once we become parents?
