[01/13/05] Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
Inky replied to Inky's topic in 1Emulation.com Reviews [/reviews]
spelling nazi yeah I didn't bother to post screen shots cuz they are easy to come by at ign, gamestop, gamespot, blah blah blah. but in any future reviews I will include a link to one of those screen shot pages. -
I love the thrift stores! when I was a kid I hated going with my mom to the goodwill or salvation army, scared one of my friends would see me (it didn't dawn on me that they would have to be there too in order to see me there lol) but as I grew up I learned to love the thrift store. I just got a pair of like new Jordans for a dollar. ONE DOLLAR!! now jordans aren't really my style but for a dollar what are you gonna do? heheh. I once got a 27 inch tv for 20 bucks. it lasted me over a year before it finally gave out. another place I always get lucky is yard sales. but I have a hard tyme getting up early enuff to get the good deals lately...........
-
I go a week or two without playing all the tyme. no big deal. I totally quit cold turkey for like 2 years after highschool. the saturn is what got me back into gaming. then sega slapped me across the face numerous tymes. just to let me know it didn't really love me.

Game: Mercinaries: Playground of Destruction System: Xbox, PS2 Emulators: none ###################################### the company line: ACTION PACKED COMBAT IN A PLAYGROUND OF DESTRUCTION. Mercenaries is a revolutionary, third person action-shooter game set in the near future and inspired by real world events. On the eve of an historic reunification of North and South Korea, a ruthless general stages a military coup, takes control of North Korea and then threatens the world with nuclear war. In response, the international community launches a global task force to stabilize the country. what it all means: Mercinaries is an "open ended" game much like the GTA series. you get your missions from different countries' military leaders within North Korea. your main goal is to capture or kill the deck of 52. the main players in North Korea's army. much like the card deck the us gov. put out for iraq. but to find them you must do missions for the other countries. besides all that there are also secrets to be found. or you could just go crazy and plant c4 on the hood of a jeep and drive it into a crowded area ###################################### Controls: 9 controls are responsive and feel similer to other 3rd person action games it will take no time to get used to them one note is that piloting helicopters is much easier then in GTA: VC. Gameplay: 9 Three slightly different characters to play. lots to do, collecting national treasures, and blueprints. or destroying national monuments and listening posts. missions seem to be varied, and what you do effects how other's view you, do to many missions against one organization and they will attack you on sight. another nice touch that I wish was available in GTA is if you get into a vehicle and no one sees, you will be disguised as whatever faction that vehicle belongs to. Graphics: 7 not the best but it does the job. a few steps above the gta series. explosions look great. the terrain itself looks a little blocky and underpopulated though. Sound: 7 nothing groundbreaking here. nice background music, good voice acting and sound effects. IDK maybe with surround sound it would be better but straight out of the TV it does the job. Overall Score: 8 overall I would recommend this game to anyone. it barrows enough from GTA to feel familier, yet it's military setting gives it it's own identity.

I get the feeling the enemies are more like the rage infected in 28 days later
-
dude you realy need to do some cleanup around your pc kool incense burner it looks like a needler
-
mercenaries pretty kool so far. reminds me of GTA: north korea. sorta lol
-
the bad acting was part of the original's charm to me. nothing better then the "you, the master of unlocking" line in all of gaming.
-
So it has two racing games, a stealth card game, a real stealth game, and a...and Ape Escape. Looks like crap to me, I dunno. The DS had Mario and Mr. Driller for me, and plays all my old GBA games. It's getting Castlevania, a Zelda game at some point, Advance Wars, probobly some Megaman in there somewhere. Maybe a few cool RPGs. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> no those aren't al the release titles. those are just the ones that have caught my eye if you look closely at my post there is a link to all the release titles. including thug2, spiderman hot shots golf ect ect ect. kyokugenkiss: that's the way I ended up getting a ps2, I had the money and there was one in the store. before I seen it I wasn't even considering gettting a new game system. impulse buying roxors. heheh
-
god luck dates change. untill it goes gold (gets printed) anything can happen. delays are a good thing tho if you think about it. would you rather they release a buggy game with translation mistakes ect. or something that has been properly polished.
-
You use great urban language. Don't mind my asking, but are you black? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> nope, he's a suburban whitey
-
anyways back on topic (for now) I don't think we need anymore dedicated forums. infact I think we need to trim the fat around here, way to many inactive of barely active forums that could be combined. for instance there is neo geo emulation, cps emulation mame emulation and regular arcade emulation. WTF couldn't it all fit under arcade emulation? same goes fro console emulation.
-
well if you are looking for a list here is the list of launch and near launch games. what looks hot there: gran turismo, ridge racer, metal gear acid, syphen filter and ape escape (I am a sucker for ape escape) look good to me. then there is dark stalker chronicles too so maybe we will see capcom release some other classic fighters on there they have always supported the gb and gba with SF ports
-
yep that's it. mine was longer and had the ribs in it to match a ps2 more. but it's the same thing.
-
yep I had one of those radioshack adapters. pretty good exept I dun really like the psx pad that's why I switched over to an xbox pad. but you can get an adapter for just about every console controller so whatever you like! I want a saturn pad and adapter soo bad but all I can find are third party saturn and early american (the big ones) pads. so whenever I find an official jap style saturn pad for cheap I am going to make the switch. there is no better controller for capcom style fighting games
-
wtf that must be some mighty strong crack you are smoking.
-
ea has been doing something like that for a while with the sports games. the more ea sports games you have the more stuff is unlocked.
-
Massively multiplayer online <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I bet most of the ppl playing will be super skinny white guys who look like Bill Gates <{POST_SNAPBACK}> that's just what I was thinking, a bunch of suburban wigga's prettending to be nino brown............
