  1. Actually, to me, tekken 2 is harder. It saids the AI have been quite improved, but for the first game is sorta hard to get use to playing, most of the time, which yer right.
  2. Ain't it the truth, thats why this tekken review recieve the highest grade of em all, and this is the tekken that takes the cake
  3. I have my reason not giving it an A- or above, and the scale is based on my own, I understand the guildine, but I prefer my own seperate reasonable scale
  4. Well enough small talk, anyone here uses the roll-cancel ?
  5. nice review.. this is the first time, myself witnessing previous MDK installments, the first MDK game I saw, was MDK3 on the dreamcast perhaps, you should review the series while yer at it
  6. not unstable, the game is officially broken from the begining the game holds more bugs than you can count
  7. Absolutely false, as long as you continue getting up, you will continue cornertraped on to the wall, after the second punch, you should be fall evenly to the ground, where you could just roll out. This is rookie level defense. No such thing as cheapness in any tekken game, everyone is an individual, each and single of em has a variety of attributes, weaknesses, offense and defense. Anyone who can master counters and finding yer oponent's weakness, that's your winning ticket.
  8. Now this is what I expect, very inner details, justify main portions of the game, nice work Gryph, I approved
  9. Please elaborate, and expand your judgements, I don't intend to sought mistakes or flaws or whatever, but I have play this game since the lauch.
  10. Well, I have reviewed all the current tekken titles, took me a whole day to finish all 5 reviews, but this is the last thing I wanted to do before attending college, in about a few days. So when it begins, I will be busy both going on my first year of college and applying for a job Anyway, this is quite an accomplisment for myself, usually I never actually have time to review. Tekken Tekken 2 Tekken 3 Tekken Tag Tournament Tekken 4 btw.. I did not mentioned I used to be a tekken addict way back when I came to america, this is actually one of the first fighting game I play aside from street fighter. I sorta continue, and become an excellent player, but I lose all that now lol !! (thx to marvel). So.. Tekken 5 will be review by none other than myself, for a former addict and still a Tekken veteran, I like to review this personally myself, til the end of the Tekken series.
  11. hmm the results are just horrible to imagine, I mean it's even worst seeing the Undertaker lose to Bradshaw. The same apply to Benoit against Orton, oh well I guess the table has turned
  12. Game: Tekken 4 Genre: Fighting Platform: Aracade, Playstation 2 Release: 2001 Tekken is back with a whole new concept of tekken, everything from character to stage is fully developed from the start. The tekken legacy continues where the 32Bit tekken 3 left off. This doesn't apply to what was left of Tekken Tag Tournament though, but it sure brought back the story. Everything has change completely modeled, from new characters to interactive backgrounds. This time the story set forward 2 more years where the 4th King of Iron Fist Tournament begins, During this time, Heihachi has found out his son Kazuya has been ressurected and plan to take revenge over Heihachi while Heihachi wanted his son's gene. This time the new tournament has been a alot different, the prize is gonna be the Tekken Zaibatsu (Financial Empire) instead of gold, andmost characters are entering the tournament for obvious reasons, aside from winning the deal. So thus the 4th King of Iron Fist tournament begins. This time with 19 selectable characters total, yet again you will start out with 10 characters. Although this time, there is a connection line between all the characters, their story evolves accordingly to another. They all fit in to make the Tekken 4 story puzzle. Every movelist from the last tekken has manipulated over this installment, now they also included new moves and techniques as well. A nice selection of new characters but also old characters that wasn't avaliable since Tekken 2 are now playable such as Kazuya and Marshall Law. Some new characters actually portrait the old fighters style such as Christie, while Violet is just Lee in disguise. Returning fighters such as Jin has made a huge improvement in the style of fighting. For quite a nice roster of fighters to chose from, this game gonna worth your while. The game is pretty much like Tekken 3 except, it has been cover with new color and a face-lift. The game stage of course is one of the new feature, it's fully 3D interactive backgrounds and area. You can cause serious mayhem as well. Objects in the environment such as Pillars can be knock down when you throw your oponent toward them, they will substain extra damage. Not all stage have obstacles or such, but they do have walls. Walls are good for trapping your oponent as well as advantage oppurtunities. There are also new techniques featured in the game, such push position change, by pressing Left punch and Left kick at the same time along with back or forward direction, you will able to push your oponent to a position of your choice. This technique helps to adjust the range you want, or you could use it to push your oponent against a wall. Now that there are 3D backgrounds you are fighting on, there will be elavation diferences such as when your standing on a stair way higher than your oponent, this will prevent you from making a ground attack effectively, most often you could miss. Everything attack you pull off will be base on elevation. This tekken will be focusing on the environment as you fight, so be sure to aware of that and play accordingly. That pretty wraps up the general concepts of the game. Seems yet another Tekken included a mini-game. This time it's taken from Tekken 3, none other than Tekken Force, it's fully redone like never before. They give you a close view angle instead of a far side-scroll like they have done in Tekken 3. The exact game where you have to fight your way through the end of the level til you reach the destination to fight a boss of each stage. Going through this time will be alot harder than you think, you will fight numerous enemies at a time as you go through. As for the controls, they are pretty much self-explanable where it left off from Tekken 3. This is a fighting game with rich high exquisite graphics like you never seen in any fighting game before. Everything starting with the character facial and figure, it's simply amazing, the detailed is way impressive than you think. For example, you can actually see sideburn from Paul's face. The design is as best as it could get, every character has new outfit, most are very stylish while a few almost look the same except remodeled. The environments of the stage is perhaps as gorgeous as it could get. For example, in the Forest stage, you could actually see a mirror reflection of yourself and your oponent when you are fighting on top of a puddle of water. Also the stage that poses like the one on the movie Fight Club is incredible, audience speculating the match, each and single individual of the audience is fully 3D figured, as well as animated so you actually witness quite alot of realism. More impressively, for a stage like that, you actually encounter no slowdown as you fight in that stage along with a crowded audience going on 60 frames per second. This tekken game has the top and best visual in the works. The audio department hasn't made much of a improvement at all. Starting with the character voices, they are still pretty much the same accordingly to the old characters from tekken 3 and new characters feature new voice-overs. A new feature put in is whenever you about to being a match, you will hear comments of your character and oponent before the fight. The effect hasn't made much change or improvement, starting with the characters' moods. Also the only change in the sound effect is the obstacles being break down from the fight and whenever you or your oponent got pumel to the wall. You will be able to hear actual sound of an exploding rock when you pulverize your oponent threw a pillar, Other sounds include splash of water, breaking glass and so on. As for the music of the game, they have replace fast-pace music with regular music that fits exactly how the environment look, for example in the forest stage, you will hear music that reflect wilderness with nice beats. This isn't the perfect Tekken game yet, but it's still a Tekken game the fans should not miss out on. For those that knows how to judge this game properly, you have to judge it by the gameplay, not by it's graphic. Although this is a great 3D title, and one of the top fighting game out there as well. It's worth playing and owning it for new and veteran Tekken players out there. Visual: 10/10 Gameplay: 8/10 Control: 8/10 Sound: 8/10 Overall Score: 8 Overall Grade: B Overall, I gvive this game a
  13. Game: Tekken Tag Tournament Genre: Fighting Platform: Arcade and Playstation 2 Release: 1999 The tekken series has made one of the best 3D fighting games in the fighters legacy, and now they have collide the previous 3 great tekken titles into one whole bash, but that's not all, they have included the tag team system that doubles the competetion and fun. Aside from the previous titles, this game is redone with big changes, with the new fast-paced fighting system installed, it has made this a fast lighting game everyone can enjoy. The game has made one of the top popular 3D fightint game in the market. 33 Selectable characters in the Arcade from the start, the console port has a total of 34 characters (although only 20 avaliable from the start, while the rest of the characters could be unlock whenever you finish arcade mode with each character). For a 3D fighting title, the roster consider to be large and making this game worth a long while. All the character has 2 different custome to chose from, the original outfit when selecting them with punch and alternative outfit when selecting them with kick. Every single character is different from another, posessing different style of fighting and moves. Although for tekken tag plot, it doesn't exactly follow from the tekken story line. In the story of tekken, there were characters either died or desease has ressurected, for playable. The game consist of all the previous tekken players, has added to the game roster. The fighting system is simply realistic, from start to end. The game exactly used the engine that was use in Tekken 3, except with a few enhancement making the game runs faster. It also left off with all the same moves from punch, kick, and throws from the movelist of the previous tekken titles. Of course they also have added new additional moves. Lets not forget the main purpose of TTT(Tekken Tag Tournament), is the tag team system. It's far too efficient to play with a partner rather than by itself. When you play 2 character, it gives you better chance to play and to win rather using one character all the way in a match. The tag system is efficient to understand, there are two various setups for tagging. One, is you can tag when your character is on stance, a press of a button instantly tags your partner in, or you could pull off a throw tag, which you manuever a throw to your oponent into a tag in attack by your partner, instantly giving your partner a save tag, excellent for tag team stradegy. To win in a tag match, all you have to do is defeat either 2 of your oponent's player. For example if your oponent's character is about to be eliminate while his/her partner has full strength, the partner will lose the round instantly along. Tekken tag establish every players should take turns fighting instead of using one character throughout the round. Also the feature enable your partner to recover the damage done by your oponent when your main character is fighting. So that pretty much sums up the main portion of the fighting system. For console versions of this game gets to play the mini game called: Tekken Tag Bowling. This game is just a side quest to unlock something special, but it's usually just for extra fun. Graphic is simply amazing, you have not experience smooth edge graphic since the last tekken you played, the game has rendered completely replacing 32Bits graphic to 128Bits. The stage is competely redone as well, tekken has use stages from Tekken 3 and add new stages as well, but now each and single stage is highly detailed plus various stages are animated. Now that they have opening CG Cinema since Tekken 2 and Tekken 3, Now TTT has its own, and it's more incredible with the motion scene. Also, each and every single character has it's own ending, some ending impose what was left of the tekken story plot, while some are caught in a state of confusion or funnies. The controls are just the same as the previous tekken, except an extra avaliable button for tag feature. Two buttons for punch and kick, each of the two buttons is for right and left punch and kick, and each posess different strength of attack. For throws, there are countless ways of doing by pulling off a throw either by pressing two button such as a punch and kick at the same time, but there are different manuevers from every single character in the game, but a garuntee throw is by a pressing right punch and right kick at the same time. For the character controls, it's always been the exact same since the first tekken made. Up for a quick jump, down for duck, back for block and moving backward, and front for forward and offense. Sounds consider to be average as it can be. All the voice over is what was carried from Tekken 3, the background music is as intense as usual fitting the background scenery. The music has fast-pace rythems and very upper beats, making the game looks lighting and intenseful. Every musics fits to the mood of the stage, for example.. when fighting in a school stage, you get a bell ring follow by a school fighting theme, and in an amusement, you get an exciting motivation dance music. Everything seems to fit accordingly. You know everything looks to be better than you expect from a tekken game. From juggling combos with the help of your partner and scoring a strike in a game of bowling with your partner as well. This game has everything a tekken fan need. This game seems moderate for anyone to learn how to play, for a veteran tekken player, you should be able to understand every aspect of it, and learn how to use your skills accordingly with the tag team system. This game boost the ego of fun for a Tekken game, more competetive, faster, and highly detailed fighting tekken game avaliable yet, this is one hot game you can't miss out. Visual: 10/10 Gameplay: 9/10 Control: 8/10 Sound: 9/10 Overall Score: 9 Overall Grade: B+ Overall, I give this game a
  14. Game: Tekken 3 Genre: Fighting Platform: Arcade, Playstation Release: 1997 Tekken strikes back with vengeance with the third installment, picking up where Tekken 2 left off. This time the game not only follow the story but has made huge improvements since the previous tekken was out 2 years ago. Now that have given a better pump for all tekken fans to enjoy. As for the story, it has fast forward 19 years ago where Heihachi threw his son Kazuya into the vocanoe and took control of the 3rd King of the Iron fist tournament. This time a recent being has appear to be in the dominant lead of defeating. In order for everyone to claim the prize of the 3rd tournament, they have to capture and defeat him. This is how the 3rd King of Iron Fist tournament begins. There are a total of 18 characters selectable, but only 10 to start with. The exact same way to unlock them is by beating the game with each character. The game roster has changes over the 19 years in the story. There are old characters coming back, and as well as new ones. Interesting to notice the new fighters such as Forest Law and Jin are offsprings from the previous fighters of tekken 2. Yet again, the story continue to unfold where tekken 2 left off. The huge improvements make this game worth the wait after 2 year in the development. The game is quite polish from the previous title. The game engine is rebuilt better, now the gameplay is much faster than the first, almost as face-pace as it look. Every new and old character came back with new moves that pull off a spectacular show. A new feature is also put in, during a match with your oponent, you have the ability to dodge their attacks. The new side stepping is quite easy to use for both offense and defense. They also have added new counter features such as rehersal, there are various setups to pull off a rehersal either in a grabble, punch or kick. The new counters are very useful, making it more competetive, given better oppurtunities to show off or to payback, all require timing and pratices. There are also new 10-Hit string combos for almost every characters. New special moves, setups, and new grabble juggling, make the game wildest and incredible than you imagine. Other than the one on one battle feature, the console port features several fun minigames to try out. Minigames such as Tekken Ball (try to kill your oponent by using the ball as a launching projectile, and Tekken Force (a side scrolling quest where you fight through the level beating multiple of enemies which also lets you pick up items on the floor that could regain health points as well as earning points for the score). The mini-games are pretty much added more fun and excitement. Graphic improvement is quite remarkable, this time with better detailed characters, and design. The polygons has gotten sharper in the visual department. Even the effects of a special blow or a super attack, you can actually see the spark and effect of it. As for the background, it's completely done new from the start. Now instead of 2D backgrounds the previous tekken games used, now there are 3D nice looking environment to fight on. Since the game has been redone nicely both the character and background incredibily, it's amazing to see the fighting engine faster than before under those huge changes from the graphic department. The sounds is still on the role just like the previous title but with better changes for the best. The voice-over is slightly redone with better tone. Sound effect in the game has been improve as well, such as whenever a lock on grabble is perform, you can actually hear better realistic sound of bones being snap or crunch. As for the background music, the music has improve with faster beats and rythem perfect for this fast-pace fighting game. Well up to now, this is by far the best Tekken game yet. These 2 years in the making has impressed the Tekken fans, and it was worth the wait. This game indeed a true franchise in the market, this is a true realistic 3D fighting game you can't miss out, Let's not forget this game is a must-own/play for all the Tekken fans. Visual: 9/10 Gameplay: 10/10 Control: 9/10 Sound: 9/10 Overall Score: 10 Overall Grade: A Overall, I gvive this game a
  15. Game: Tekken 2 Genre: Fighting Platform: Arcade, Playstation Emulator: Zinc Release: 1995 Picking up after the first King of Iron Fist tournament, the second tournament was about to announce. The story continues unfolding what has left off after the first tournament. This time the competetion is very remarkable than the first, now instead of 8 competeting, there is a total of 23 fighters competeting for the prize in the secon King of Iron Fist tournament. A total of 23 selectable characters, but only 10 is availiable from the start, in order to earn the rest, the play must play through and finish the game with each character to unlock everyone. All the previous fighters from the first tekken is being added to the roster along with new characters. All new characters that are hidden are involved with all 10 main characters of the game, and the stories will unfold along the way. This time, the story plot is quite expanded, with CG cinemas endings whenever you finish the game with a character. Each character will face through 7 rounds follow by a sub-boss, you will encounter your own character's specific sub-boss (which is someone in related, involve, or rivalry). After that you will went on and face Kazuya follow by the last boss Devil (Kazuya's Devil form). As for the second King of Iron Fist Tournament, the story revolves differently than the previous tekken, some are trying to acquire the championship while some are there to stop Kazuya's evilness. The story is quite setup along with all the charactes, and it seems that every single character is responsible of the tekken story puzzle. Seems like the graphic is quite improve. The polygons are more sharper than the first tekken, although the game ego has been slower than the previous tekken. Sometime, whenever a long move is performed, it causes slowdown. In general aspect, the game is slow-pace indeed. They have also added camera angles whenever a grabble or a special move performed display multiple angles of the view could make you caught in a state of confusion of the direction your character is moving. The game backgrounds is a nice improvement, almost all the characters get their own background. The background detailed is pretty much interesting, some you could tell like it has been duplicated from a photo of an area. Although the CG Cinema endings are incredible even though they are short, they are worth watching everytime you beat the game. Controls seems the be the exact as usual by default(Left punch/kick, and Right punch/kick). Now that they have enhanced the fighter system, the game ables you to pull various combos. The new combination of moves can be learn by praticing. They also added the new 10-Hit string combo technique for every character, some character has more than one 10-hit string, they can be pull off according to the buttons and sometime requires timing. Same average as before with every tekken music, the beats and rhythem fit nicely to the scenery of the stage. Other than that, the voice-over has been redone, nothing much expect from a better tone of voice from every single character though. The sound effects maybe one of the best improvements in the sound department. You can actually hear bone crunching and snapping as well as other damage sounds, which made the game look nicer than before. This game is worth picking up where the first tekken left off. The big improvements aren't satisfy as I thought it would be but finding out the story of the game worth the money. It could last a while too despite 23 characters to play from, and you could find out the new stories of the new character as well. Every tekken fan deserve to give this a try or own it for their taste for more tekken. Visual: 8/10 Gameplay: 7/10 Control: 8/10 Sound: 8/10 Overall score: 8 Overall Grade: B Overall, I gvive this game a
  16. Game: Tekken Genre: Fighting Platform: Arcade, Playstation Release: 1994 The new begining of a sucessful 3D fighting game, other than the game Tekken itself. Tekken is first of the brilliant 3D fighting game made into the markets, lets not forget this game is one of the first realistic fighting game developed. Tekken is the begining of the newest King of Iron Fist tournament establish for the fighters. This is the new begining of Tekken, features 8 fighters availiable competing for the King of Fist Iron championship. Each and single character has it's own story to follow. Every character has it's own style of fighting and moves. It's easy to play if you pratice, this game really focus on offense and defense seriously, this game requires weeks of pratice in order to feel comfortable beating the human and cpu controlled fighter. The game establish different weakness of every single character, and in order to master the character of your favor, you have to pratice them alot individually. The game expand more than you think even for 8 fighters, each posess different style of playing. The system is fairly easy to play and follow, you get two punch and two kick buttons, each use for left and right position of the offense. Players also has the ability to throw by pressing the right punch and kick the same exact time. Players able to block by holding back. Tilt foward or twice to make your oponent dash forward or run for a tackle or slide. Tilt up to make your oponent jump or perform an aerial attack and tilt down to make your oponent duck to evade upper attacks, could also use for crouch block, also could perform lower attacks with punch and kick. The Sound is system is quite alright for once, from the voice over, you can actually hear the mood of your character or your oponent getting beaten. The voice is just incredible, you actually felt the scream when they are defeated or whenever they get pumel down. The music background focus on a more techno and rock theme, trying to make the music fits accordingly to the stage scenery. Visual: 8/10 Gameplay: 8/10 Control: 9/10 Sound: 8/10 Overall Score: 8 Overall Grade: B Overall, I give this game a
  17. well you gone through the trouble for a thread that spans 3 page lol, might as well rub it in before any of us gets angry j/k (but for once, this thread doesn't deserve to be close either)
  18. Game: Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark Of The Millennium 2001 (Millionare Fighting 2001) Genre: Fighting Platform: Arcade, Dreamcast, Playstation 2, Xbox, GameCube. Emulator: N/A Release: 2001 Back in actions from the first taste of capcom and snk collision. This time with more characters, and the ever new groove system making this more exciting and challenging. Not only the game has enhanced, but everything from start to bottom is newly developed, the fighting system engine is different from the previous game. This new badass, has outrank one of the top popular fighting game in the world. Just count em, 46 playable characters from the start, with 2 hidden extra characters while you process through the game. The high roster of fighters make this game last a while, not to mentioned making it more competetive. The thing interest you is that all 46 characters can be put in whichever team you desire to make thanks to the free for all ratio system. Now this new groove system is a big change from the previous game, this enable different styles to play. This is very identical to the Street Fighter Alpha 3, when they have the Ism selection, except more styles to chose from. This groove system has based on Capcom and SNK style of playing. There are 6 availiable grooves to chose from. The two group, Capcom and SNK establish 3 grooves each. Every single grooves are different from apart. A main brief of each and single groove in the game are explain: C-Groove: This groove is just identical to A-Ism of Street Fighter Alpha 3. 3 connected levels of power giving you the choices of pulling off a hyper move on 3 different strength from low, medium and high according to your button choice. A-Groove: Now this groove is very interesting, this groove structured the same from Street Fighter Alpha 3's V-Ism. The main feature of this groove enable you to pull off custom combos in a temporary amount of time. Custom combo could also be done both on the air and ground after you press HP and HK at the same time. Now what's interesting about this groove is the hyper move cancel technique, the way it works is, since you can only pull off level 1 hyper move, and the max amount amount you can carry is 2, this enable you to cancel a hyper combo into a special move, normally its the other way around, but this is how the A-Groove works. P-Groove: This groove is taken from the parry system of Street Fighter: 3rd Strike. The main feature of this system is of course, parry your oponent's move. Also you could only build one power bar and could use pull of a hyer move based on the 3 strength levels of your choice. S-Groove: A groove taken from the King of Fighters series. This groove enable you to charge up to a max level 1 power guage. Other than that, after you are down to your last breathes of life, as your health bar is flashing, this enable you to pull off infinite amount of level 1 hyper move despite your desperation of dying. N-Groove: This groove allows you to build by 3 max gauge. You can also pull off 3 level 1 hyper moves or you could use it to boost your offense and defense able you to use your moves twice as hard. While your boost is still going in temporary amount of time, you could pull off a level 3 hyper move if you have an extra gauge. K-Groove: This groove was taken from the Samurai Showdown series. The groove is based on the rage style. Whenever you get hit or block from your oponent, your power gauge will increase. Once it max out, your character will be on intense mode, you are able to pull off a level 3 hyper move during a the period of your rage mode, which last a period of time. Graphic is rich and detailed, all the character are rendered with smoothness. The effects of the game, such as whenever a character pull off a super or especially a hyper move, you could really see the intensity of a projectile and such, and animation is pure smooth and intense. Other than the characters, the fully 3D background gives the game a nicer scenery of the fight. The background constantly moves, some stage also changes in the condition, such as, after a first round of fight during the daylight, the second fight will be held during night time and such. As for sound, hahaha now isn't this a suprise, the announcer from the exact same tone from the Street Fighter Alpha 3 is the one doing all various announcements. Although I can't say the voice is terrible, but there are just too many announcements, even when you browse through the configurations and options lol, well you get the point, he's everywhere. The voice-over has some minor changes, such as uplifting their tone (just some) and new voice-overs for some characters, also some could be annoying. Other than background music, its consider moderate. You actually hear music based on the scenery of the stage, so it pretty much fits. This game pretty much polish from the first installment. For once, this is one of the best fighting game out there, I can't elaborate the fun times I have with this game, this game requires true fighting skills, from both the capcom and snk fighting styles. The game pretty much has it all for a normal capcom and snk game. Have it your way, try to find your favorite type of fighting style (groove), make it exciting and challenging with your oponent. Take this game to a whole new level of fighting, and make this game worth playing for the rest of your life. This game is surely a must-play and a must-own for both Capcom and SNK fans. Visual: 9/10 Game[play: 10/10 Control: 9/10 Sound: 8/10 Overall Score: 9 Overall Grade: A Overall, I give this game a
