Traditional martial arts are better when it comes to learning how to fight from both stances. But the sparring and conditioning at most TMA schools is not up to par. the reason why you tighten every muscle is to add explosive power to your strikes. You don't literally have to tighten up every muscle in your body though. Just wait until you actually start training, you don't want to get stuck doing it incorrectly. Bad striking habits are hard to break.

TKD is the most practiced martial art in the world so it will be easy to find someone to train with that's a black belt privately. You for sure picked the toughest one to train in. Kick boxing and boxing is great too but MT is more complete.

You need to learn how to throw a punch properly first. Are you right or left handed? learn how to rotate your shoulders and not wind up your punches. Stand shoulder width apart and take one step back with your power side. Keep your chin tucked downward and your hands up. Keep your shoulders relaxed and elbows loose. Breath every time you strike. Keep you're entire body loose and right before impact tighten up your fist and every muscle in your body for a more explosive impact. Never hold your breathe. If you need to remind yourself to breath when you're striking make a violent yell every time you strike. HAH! Try to become more flexible everywhere. Joining a Muay Thai gym will be awesome, the workouts are going to be hellish but don't quit! You will spar and train hard on a regular basis. You'll learn how to use your martial arts in live situations. I can't wait to hear more about your training.

I want to chime in on this thread but I don't want to sound pretentious or as if I am disregarding what others have said.

Other things I have noticed... Couples don't act like couples here, they are not very affectionate it seems. Seems like friends here are more touchy feelie (not in a gay way) and buddy buddy with each other. Back in America when you're with a girl you sit close to her, rub her back, she sits on your lap, give each other little cute kisses, hug often, hang on each other, etc.. Here that almost never happens. The men here are not very romantic. The girls here walk all lovey dovey with each other, arm and arm, holding hands, and close to each others side. The kissing here is also terrible. Girls barely open there mouth and almost never use there tongue. The girl I like was telling me I am so romantic, that no other boy has been so comfortable, attentive, and caring when hanging out with her. I kinda laughed in my head because I was not even trying. I was doing just enough to make her feel comfortable with me and show her i am interested in her. I caressed her arm, the back of her neck, hugged her, put my arm around her, kiss on the cheek, simple stuff. For the women here that's epic haha. I was keeping it super basic and simple.

Well thanks for the vote of confidence. I know I can do well. The fact that my questions have gone unanswered agitates me though. With the situation as it is, its not too much to ask for some answers in a timely manner. One can not expect me to just show up in China with knowledge Im supposed to teach... only. I require more information. I want this. If you understood how busy we have been you'd understand. Besides we won't need you till next term after this summer. So it's not as imperative as you may think. I am very busy right now moving and helping promote our new school, we've been away for the past few days and did not have internet access.
