Some CoinOps Results: NARC - Sound on, steady 57 FPS (Stock is about 4 FPS) ELEVATOR ACTION 2 - Steady 60 FPS (Stock is about 30-40 FPS and frame skipping needs to be enabled) Great results in my opinion, especially with NARC. Any suggestions for CoinOps (or FBL)

Its probably a memory thing. The XBOX only has 64 megs to throw around

Anyone try the NetPlay options in the Emulators??
PhilExile replied to Vermillion's topic in XBOX Hacks [/xbox]
It wasn't your connection Cos. Netplay is just laggy unfortunately. -
Right. You will also see if you click the link that it's Sourceforge website is as maintained as the MAMEox emulator for Xbox. (Hint: hasn't seen an update since 2005, runs only in 480i mode, doesn't have sorting, video previews, etc) Just saying Bigby

Some Surreal64 Results: Conkers Bad Fur day plays well using 1964/Rice 5.61, usually averaging about 20 FPS, but varying sometimes to 15 or as high as 30. Majora's Mask also plays OK. Average framerate is 74 using 1964/Rice 5.1. It also varys and sometimes the music stutters, but not nearly as bad as on a stock Xbox. I noticed in the Clock Town the slowdown is significantly diminished. Sometimes the framerate drops to 40 and the music stutters, but that usually when entering (loading) a different part of town. On a stock Xbox when I tried playing this game, I turned it off when I got to this part. All in all, favorable results. There are a lot of bugs in this emulator still though. For instance, in Conkers, there are a few points when you see things from the (drunk) characters point of view. These, I assume, blurry/drunk views are gibberish computer artifacts.

eh, sounds like a big time investment. For now, lets focus on XBOX emus. Here is an update. I had pretty piss poor results. I think a lot of these need drivers, so maybe they could be playable on an upgraded XBOX. Anyway, here you go: Ace Driver - loads, 4 fps, no sound Ace Driver Victory Lap - loads, 4 fps, no sound Air Combat 22- loads, 4 fps, no sound Alpine Racer - loads, 4 fps, no sound Astra SuperStars - missing files Batman Forever - missing files Battle Arena Toshinden 2 - malloc error Beastorizer - missing files Fighting Layer - loads, 4 fps, no sound G-Darius - malloc error Gaiapolis - malloc error Golgo 13 - malloc error Mr Driller - loads, 4 fps, no sound Namco Classics Collection Vol 2 - loads, 60 fps, however, once a game is selected (pacman) nothing happens Radiant Silvergun - loads, 9 fps, no sound Strider 2 - missing files (Maybe needs Strider 1 files? Xevious 3DG - loads, 4 fps, no sound I'll test some more tomorrow.

How hard is that to do? On of the reasons I like the Xbox for emulation is that I don't have to deal with an OS per say. Would these linux apps launch like Xmugen or do you need to install the whole desktop interface?
-
Me too, but it'd be nice to have in CoinOps
-
Ah, like Radiant Silvergun. I got a whopping 9 frames per second on that one. just so you know regasrding the ps1 arcade hardware games like ridge racer series and tekken series, they might still not be great as the driver might need updated.so it might not just be your xbox,it could be software relasted.that is if you get a lot of slowdown that is. also you might want to try virtua fighter as well. dont waste your time tring the sega saturn based arcade games namely these. http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=711 driver needs updated on those ones.

Wonder who has Asperger syndrome on this forum.... Anyway, back to testing. Please post if you have something useful to contribute.

I got a very helpful list from RX regarding games that run out of memory in CoinOps on a stock XBOX. I will be testing this list (below) this week and let you all know my findings. Ace Driver Ace Driver Victory Lap Air Combat 22 Alpine Racer Astra SuperStars Batman Forever Battle Arena Toshinden 2 Beastorizer Bloody Roar 2 Brave Blade Cool Boarders Arcade Jam Cotton 2 Cotton Boomerang Cyber Commando Cyber Cycles Dancing Eyes Dead or Alive Dragon World 3 Ehrgeiz Fighters Impact Fighting Layer Funky Head Boxers G-Darius Gals Panic II Gaiapolis Golgo 13 Hanagumi Taisen Columns Heaven's Gate Hidden Catch Joryuu Syougi Kyoushitsu Kosodate Quiz My Angel 3 Land Breaker Lord of Gun Magical Date EX Maru-Chan de Goo Monster Maulers Mr Driller Namco Classics Collection Vol 2 Paca Paca Passion Plasma Sword Prop Cycle Psychic Force Radiant Silvergun Rave Racer Ray Storm Revolution X Rival Schools Sando-R Sea Bass Fishing Sengeki Striker Senkyu Snow Board Championship Sonic Wings Limited Speed Up Star Gladiator Star Sweep Street Fighter EX Street Fighter EX 2 Street Figthter EX 2 Plus Street Fighter EX Plus Strider 2 Suikoenbu Surf Planet T-MEK Tech Romancer Tekken Tekken 2 Ver.B Tekken 3 Time Crisis Title Fight Tondemo Crisis Touki Denshou Virtua Fighter Kids Virtua Racing Xevious 3DG I'm also going to test out CHD games, but probably not till next week. These are: Area 51 Area 51MX Beatmania (ver JA- beatmania 2nd MIX (ver JA- beatmania 4th MIX (ver JA-A) beatmania 5th MIX (ver JA-A) beatmania complete MIX (ver JA- beatmania CORE REMIX (ver JA-A) beatmania f. BP, are there any problematic ROMs not listed here? Also, I was playing Elevator Action Returns last night and I noticed it plays perfect at 60 FPS. I'm pretty sure this one had a bad frame rate on a stock XBOX. Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks!
-
No problem. Thanks for the info, there are a lot of settings on this emulator. OK, so this one was pretty interesting. I tried out different video modes and got different results: 720P: Mostly 59-60FPS, however there would be slowdown occasionally to 50FPS and one the first level, when you hit the puddle on the left side of the play area, it drops to about 44 FPS and music gets choppy. I think this is because its an 'effect' in that the pool is reflecting textures. Oddly, the fence texture seems to make the FPS drop and music get choppy a bit. 1080i: About the same average framerate as with 720P, but more occasional slowdown and music stuttering. 480P: Pretty rock solid 59-60FPS, with little to no occasional slowdown. When you hit the puddle, frames drop to about 53-54 and music stutters a bit. I didn't check Tony 2. Maybe tomorrow. My guess is the results will be either the same or worse since its the same game engine. Overall, I think a lot of these issues are with the emulator optimization since it seems to choke when the effects show up. That said, I'm not a coder so that may be all utter bullshit. Anything else?

Its very disappointing to hear people are still behaving like children in our very small scene. Common guys, I think most of us are in our late 20s at least. Can we stop acting so infantile please? Also, regarding the MU snitching, it reminds me of something my father always said: no one likes a rat.
-
Oh, I forgot to test those, I'll try now. What is your average FPS on a stock XBOX? Also, could you tell me what settings to use for Tony Hawk 1? I can get it up and running, but on the first levels a lot of textures are missing. AKA, the rams look white.
-
This played fairly well. It started up kinda choppy, however, after about a few seconds it stabilized and ran at a good frame rate. However, I noticed when the scene "got busy" it got a bit choppy again. For instance, in the scene when the man walks into the building and a lot of characters are walking around it slows up for a second or two. This also happens when he enters the woman's red office. Maybe the color shift caused it here? All in all, it ran OK, not great. I do have a 2.5 inch hd being run through a SATA converter, so you may want to ask someone else to double check on their 1.4 box with a standard IDE HD. http://rapidshare.com/files/367501282/the....labs.sample.mkv Xbmc should read it. Thanks in advance

BP, do you think it would be possible to play some of the CHD .084 games with CoinOps on an upgraded Xbox?
-
sure, point me to a file and ill try it
-
Ha, well, Radiant Silvergun runs at 9 FPS. I guess that is better than 1 FPS on a stock Xbox.
-
Heh, even better: http://mameworld.info/mrdo/journey.html BP, do you think this would work as-is, aka: just popping the file into the samples folder? Does CoinOps support WAVs? EDIT: I tried it just putting the file in the sample folder, but unforunately, it didn't work. BP, do you think you could look at add the 'call' or whatever to get the music to play? I think it would be easy and its a fun little game and it would really add to it. I can send you the file if you'd like. Thanks!

off topic... i know, but the saturn forum is dead

You may have some luck at RacketBoy. They have a big Sega following there. Good luck -
Hello, I was just reading about the Journey game at MAWS, check this out: One of the longest-running requests in MAME has been a sample for the cassette tape in the game Journey. After you complete the five stages, you are treated to a bonus stage where the band performs a concert. Inside the cabinet, there was a standard cassette player that would play a tape at this stage. Previously, the only way to play the game on an emulator with the music was with Retrocade, which is long since gone, and only runs on DOS. Around August 2005, Aaron Giles added support for the tape player and the sample, which was great, but there was still no actual sample. You could create your own by ripping the song "Separate Ways" from a CD, but it still wasn't the actual arcade product. In December that year, a guy named Jonah mentioned on the MAMEGen messageboard that he had a copy of the tape. After some pushing and prodding from myself, he was kind enough to record it for me. The tape is a continuous loop of Separate Ways; not the whole song, but the first three minutes of it. Also, the version on the tape is 8 bars shorter than the version found on Journey's Greatest Hits CD. If you listen to the CD, at the 0:22 spot, and again at the 1:52 spot, there is an extra 4 bars (16 beats) of music compared to the tape. The cassette fades out just about right at the 3:00 mark, then there's almost 4 sec. of blank space, and the loop starts over. I took the CD version of the song, and matched it against the cassette recording (full of snap, crackle, and pop) to line up perfectly - missing the same 8 bars, fades the same at the end, and the same amount of blank space before the loop restarts. It matches up to the tape exactly. This is as close as we are probably going to get to a "just off the assembly line Journey with never-before-played cassette." IMO, this stacks up as well as any other sample used in MAME. Note: The Retrocade tape loop for Journey wasn't from the actual cassette, it was ripped from the CD version and polished (dirtied?). Unacceptable for MAME. Here is video: Is there anyway we can have this added to CoinOps? I think it would be pretty awesome. (As a child of the 80s) Thanks again

Ditto here. I have been able to get Super Mario 64 to boot however. Everything else seems to blackscreen. Does anyone know how to get in touch with the emus author so we can figure out a fix? I posted in the main thread for the emu at xbox-scene.
-
Stryder, also, have you attempted to run Radiant Silvergun on your Xbox? The reason I ask is because its driver status is listed as imperfect at the MAWS database.
-
Well, I'm just patching them just in case. I have all my files backed up on my computer. Those are unaltered. Does anyone know what the patch does exactly? It runs very quickly, so I assume it either adds or subtracts a small amount of code. Also, who made it? Thanks for the quick response dude. I just wanted to make sure there weren't downsides to the patch. I'm pretty much making a patched set of emulators and leaving my unpatched ones alone. Since you've tried both ways, which one are you leaving on the xbox hard drive, the patched or unpatched ones?
-
Hello, I tried with both patching and not. There doesn't seem to be any difference at least in the ones I've tried so far, X68k, CoinOps, FBL. I would definitely keep the patch handy just in case.
