Very well put

Ya, Madmab is a very nice guy. Just be clear in your documentation of your experience in order to help him isolate the bugs.
-
Hmmm, I think it would be better to leave this alone. (AKA, don't report them) Its good that you are calling attention to their activities here and, I assume, at other forums. If people are dumb enough to fall for this, that's their problem. Good looking out though. Also, did you get in touch with Madmab regarding your issues with the PCE CD emulator? I know he is working on it. Check out this forum topic: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...712115&st=0

Gunlock also works great. (These FPS are all on an 720P HD setup) BP, I did notice one thing off about perfect pixel on Gunlock (and possibly other vertical games at 720P?). If you launch it at PP X2 or PP Autofit, the pixels are slightly off. This is apparent when you bring up the in-game menu by pressing back + white buttons. You'll see that there is that triangular distrortion through the center of the screen and menu. If you have a chance, can you take a look at this? May as well have PP be flawless at this point. Cos, could you also look just to confirm I'm not seeing things? EDIT: I think this is a screw-up on my end. I'll double check tonight or tomorrow. Thanks!

The only one I have is Cyberball, that runs 60 FPS flawlessly. Can anyone out there hook up the other games mentioned here? Also, is there a way to enable background sound in Raiden 2 2000? I selected locked on, but there wasn't any background music playing still. Mortal Kombats play fine with sound, 53 FPS steady. I did notice that MKII & III's sound were low, but I just turned up the volume on my stereo. Can people suggest more games?
-
Sure, added to the list. Also, per my previous request, please enable 'Display FPS' in PSCXBox and let me know what the average framerate for each of those games is for you on your stock Xbox. would you mind trying tony hawks 1 and 2 for psx? also maybe could you try out darius gaiden on level 2 the slowdown is terrible. always been wondering about those 3 games on pscxbox.

Installed new fans, rated 34 CFM, as well as the new 2.5 500gb SATA HD and I'm now rocking 120 F idle. Guess faster fans was the magic bullet. Now we need to test out under heavy load.

Well, for people considering, I am planning on writting up a review, but I need games to try out. Please post! Thanks

So far I've only tested the two X68000 games that gave me the most problems: Castlevania and Reinforcer. Castlevania now runs full speed with 0 frameskipping at 55.6 FPS. Reinforcer is better too, but 1 frameskipping must be enabled and it runs at approximately 27 FPS. On a stock Xbox, it won't even run smooth with auto frameskipping (the highest) enabled. Its important to note that both of these games are being run at 1080i. Castlevania's native resolution is 256x256 and Reinforcer's is 512x512. The high resolution of the second game is what causes the need for frameskipping. Since its running at 1080i, I have the screen set to display 1024x1024 pixels. I think my new 2.5" hard drive will be arriving today, so I'll be loading up more emus in the future. I'm also going to mess with the fan setup again tonight. The more I think about it, the more I believe that the fan blowing down on the CPU didn't perform as well because the fan in back of it was also acting as intake. I think it should have been exhaust as its just keeping the hot air inside. I'm going to play with it.... In any case, the temps are much better. I do think we should do a stress test to see what the heat is under maximum load. A good, 2 hour movie would probably do it. f n64 is way better as well as some mame games which were unplayable or laggy before. not sure which does more on those the cpu or ram...but they work great either way. havent done much with ps1 yet, but i heard it was improved too. most stock games load faster, but this is mostly due to running them from my new hdd with an ata100 cable rather than the cpu. xbmc also runs a lot better, which is all cpu i think. your experiences?

Unfortunately, the Xpod is no longer available. The guy who made them got into real estate or something. I IM'd him a few times asking about it and he said that he sold the designs to some guy that never did anything with it. Oh well. Good idea on the movie. Have any ideas on which one? Ya, I'm going to leave the heatsink as-is for now. Maybe something got jostled in your setup, that sometimes happens unintentionally bumping something. My fans are pretty quiet. I actually looked around and I found a few 30 CFM fans that I'm going to try out in the case, rather than the Nexus fans, which are about 20 CFM. Also, I ordered one of those Tornados for the hell of it. My plan is to have it on top of the heatsink blowing down, while the cpu fan on the back of the case (80mm 30 CFM) blows out. The right side fan, next to the PSU will blow out as well and the fan on the left will intake. By the way, what game emulators have you been playing that previously played poorly on a stock Xbox?

Also, anyone have any Xport games to try out?
-
OK, I'll give all these a try. Thank you for the list. Is there any way for me to disable speedhacks throughout or is that something that would need to be done before the compile? Thanks again!
-
OK, I'll try whatever. I'm waiting for the guru of game knowledge to chime in... FUMANCHU!
-
Ah OK. Good to know. Is there any sort of list of those games with speedhacks applied that I could reference?
-
Ha, thanks! Fixed that BP, what do you mean older stuff may not run the same? It will run better or worse? Also, I remember you created a speedhack for Double Dragon. Is there a way to disable it easily? I'd be curious to see how it works.

Hello, Since I've got the Trusty Xbox mostly set up now, I was wondering if people could suggest some different games to throw at it that have typically given you problems speed-wise in the past. I had a few for the X68000 that I've already tried out with great results. I'm very interested in arcade games for CoinOps as a lot of those give people problems. OK, so please list the emulator/system, the name of the game, and be as specific as possible regarding the slowdown issues you have. For instance, if its a slow game in CoinOps, please list the average FPS. (Hold back and press black button in game) FPS can also be displayed in the Xport emulator. Its on the second page of general settings, just change it to YES. Best Regards

No, I have an Xport Xpod, which does have cooling issues. Thats why I modded the case. It looks like I move between 128 - 130 F. I think what we should both test is a game that will push the CPU through its paces and really heat it up. Have any ideas? I'm still messing around with my setup. Maybe I'll loosen the CPU's heatsink, but I haven't noticed any issues with it being tight. I think usually, they are supposed to be as tight as possible. Also, I'm using 3x Nexus fans, that are rated at 20.2CFM. Now, if I get something like the Vantec Tornado, which is rated at 84 CFM, I bet I will see improvement. The only problem is that I'll hear it too. Talk soon
-
Well, its a more constrainted space, so I think blowing down is just keeping the hot air in. I'm doing more test. I'll update in a bit. Idle I'm 128, but thats in a tight entertainment center. I'm going to take it out tonight and remove the back. that could be true. im sure its very specific to your setup. i could give it a try as well. most overclockers recommend blowing air onto the heatsink, so that is what i did. also, almost every cpu cooler does this as well. but ill try it out on my setup. anything to cool down my box sounds good to me. what are your temps at btw? mine are around 120.
-
Actually, I just did a test and found that having the fan blowing up from the CPU is better for cooling. It could be that since I'm using multiple fans, this just helps the circulation of air.
-
Why do you want to leave?
-
Ha, I did. Just got finished cleaning up. Just an FYI, acrylic cut at high speeds reeks! Thank god I have a solder exhaust fan. Anyway, ya, I cut the rear and side fan slots so they are wide open now. I also cut a new fan slot right above the CPU and installed another 80mm fan. The fans now work like so: REAR: Blows air in, right to the CPU LEFT: Blows air in RIGHT: Blows air out since its right next to the PSU. No point in blowing hot air from that on top of the CPU heatsink. CPU TOP: Blows air up and out. Right now, my CPU temp is holding steady at 132 - 134 F. I think the other night when we spoke it was 170 - 172 F, so ya, a good dip. The only bad thing is that now that I have an CPU TOP fan, I need to use a small 2.5 hd, but whatever, small price to pay. Let me know if you see room for improvement.

Hi Carlo, I'll test both ways once I get everything set up. Working on cooling my custom box properly first and its a nice day out, so you may not hear from me till next week sometime. By the way, READING ALL CAPS IS HARD. Try lowercase, it really does help. Best Regards

Hey Rx, Yes, I've used it to format lots of different sizes, including my 1GB SATA drive. I never noticed any issues. Its highly likely it just launches that same partitioning program to get the job done. That AID DVD (and Slayers before it) make everything so easy. When I first modded an Xbox in late 2002 / early 2003, it was so much more difficult.
-
Yes, I ran that patch app on the X68000 emulator XBE first of course. By the way, looks like my case is the culprit! http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=277450 Note that the creator of the case notes that he is considering opening up the grates to allow more airflow. LOL

Also, I tested out a few X68000 games that were giving me problems before with great results. - Castlevania now can play perfectly smoothly with 0 frameskipping. On a stock Xbox, you need to have some sort of frameskip enabled or it stutters. - Renforcer now can play pretty well with 1 frameskipping enabled. On stock, it couldn't be played even on "auto" frameskip. So, overall, great results. By the way, does anyone know how to display 'frames per second' in the XPORT emus? Also, BP, once I have this set up properly, would it be possible to get a build of CoinOps without some of the speedhacks applied? For instance, it might be interesting to see how games like Double Dragon play on an upgraded Xbox. Thanks!
