Which romsets you prefer to use?
+ T + replied to wicked_dumbo_octobus's topic in XBOX Hacks [/xbox]
You are aware that, in addition to the main DATs for each system, No-Intro also provides a parent-clone DAT. If you take only the parent sets from this DAT you would have only one ROMset for each game with no regional or other duplicates. Takes about 10 seconds to turn a full No-Intro set into a 'concise' 1-Game-1-ROM set. -

Well I would guess that having every single game from every region covering every system and updating them regularly as new dumps and information become available is somewhat beyond the scope of your project. So I daresay No-Intro will be remain the collector's choice for some time to come. For casual gamers though, I'm sure your sets are the ones to go for. If 15,000 unique games that are tested as working with no trainer screens and all these other things I'm providing aren't enough for you, than be my guest and enjoy your messy looking romsets with 27 versions of Super Mario Bros. Perhaps you're confusing No-Intro sets with Goodtools sets since those are the ones with 20 different versions of each game. No-Intro has no crap, only has one dump for each verified cartridge in the same way that MAME has a romset for each genuine arcade board. True that does usually give you more than one rom for each game but one person's 'messy' is another's 'complete'. There's no need to feel insulted. You can't expect that your project is going to fit everyone's emulation needs. I think it's great what you've done and will no doubt appeal to a lot of gamers. But for collectors who value complete and up-to-date roms above all that other stuff, No-Intro is the only way to go. -

No-Intro. For a true collector nothing else will do. -
A lot of those sorts of sets are just ROM hacks. There are hundreds of them made by various people and most are a waste of time. If you try to add them all you'll end up with a very long and messy game list. That's why I only ever added hacks that were dumped from real arcade boards to FBA-XXX Pro. Perhaps I've misunderstood, but a few posts ago you said you would not be releasing any of this. If that's the case then I don't think anyone is really interested in reading about all the things you've added to your private builds. Keep it to PMs in future.

And another perfectly valid and potentially interesting thread is turned into a crapfest. It's not BP that's to blame for this one, his first comment could have easily been ignored. Can we just pull all the hating and venom-spitting back a bit so that this forum might actually have a chance of becoming worth reading again? How do you expect any developer to take a request for a new port of MAME seriously when this is what it's based on? You've killed your own thread, but hopefully not the idea.

Though I'm not a CoinOPS user myself, I've always followed its development with interest, particularly since iq_132's new drivers started going in. I don't see a problem with incorporating cores of long-dead emulators whose developers have left the scene but using an active developer's code without their express consent and involvement is definitely wrong. You seem to acknowledge this since you say the FB core will be removed from your next release. You made a mistake, and then corrected it so that's that. I really don't see why you constantly feel the need to abandon and revive your project over these small forum issues. I feel sorry for users that love CoinOPS and have to check this forum every day to see what mood you're in and whether there's going to be another release or not. Either you want to work on it and the appreciation of those that enjoy it is enough to keep you going, or you don't in which case just quit it once and for all and turn your mind to other things entirely.

Typically I spot this just as I'm going to bed. Looking forward to tomorrow though. Thanks nes6502.

This really is embarrassing. How many topics have been started over all this now? And how many more have degenerated? Does anybody actually read all this ranting and raving anymore? I know I try to just scroll past it. But it's gotten to the stage where it's impossible to ignore, it's everywhere and it's made this and the XS forum a joke. Rx and BP, I think the pair of you should consider a self-imposed ban from both forums for a while as it's you that all this centres around. As developers you are at the core of what keeps this scene going and as such you really should be able to rise above this sort of childish bickering. Have you not noticed how nes6502, kenshiro, madmab, iq_132 and other developers just do not get involved in this nonsense? You should take a page from their book and at least keep this private but if you can't then, regardless of your respective contributions to the scene, you should not be allowed to post here or elsewhere. Personally I'd rather have a clean and constructive forum again than all the Xtras or CoinOPS builds in the world. Please sort out your behaviour.

No worries. I would have waited for an announcement anyways. No rush, just glad it's happening.
-
To those wondering if nes6502 will release a 'full' build with ROMs included, I would guess (and hope) that this is unlikely as it's generally considered extremely bad form for an author to distribute illegal ROMs with an emulator. I'm sure someone will package it altogether as a torrent somewhere though.

Really? That's awesome news. Can't wait.

You've done some great work on CoinOPS BP. But in my opinion this kind of comment and attitude is disgraceful for a developer. That's all I've got to say here. Moooooooooo! I can still post moooooooooo! Oh yes and Mooooooo! of course.
-
In english 'Mooo' is the sound a cow makes. I know it may seem like stating the obvious but my understanding is that different languages have different sounds for animals. Lol.

Just because you lock a thread doesn't make it so either it seems. Am I the only one who can still post in locked threads by using the reply button at the bottom of each post?

Just wanted to say kenshiro, that you and iq_132 have done some amazing work on this emulator. It's everything I wish I could've done with it if only I'd had the skills. And yes I know what you mean about the code it is an absolute nightmare. Good luck in whatever else you do.

Great emulator! great job.

FBA_XXX_Pro_1.29_BETA release (codename "Banana Hammock")
+ T + replied to - kenshiro -'s topic in Final Burn (FBA/FBL/FBC)
I'd guess more a case of BP wanting the newest FBA-XXX Pro sourcecode for his own project. -
I didn't post my reasoning because, quite frankly, you don't seem to take criticism very well. You obviously have your own vision of what you want CoinOPS to be and that's great, but having tried the latest version just yesterday I can say that it's just not the MAME for me. I will explain why if you want but a lot of it comes down to personal taste so it will likely make no difference to you. First off I would say that the GUI just doesn't look good to me. 128Plus with the dark blue MAMEdOX skin looks far more polished in my opinion. The large screenshots CoinOPS uses just don't work for me at all, they look stretched and blurry to my eyes. Also the game names are missing version details. This is confusing when you have more than one version of a game such as the 2P and 4P sets of TMNT and the clone is listed as the main set and the parent is listed as 'TMNT Extra'. CoinOPS is obviously not designed for people with large and diverse ROM collections so that's a big minus for me. The options seem a bit messy. The first thing I did is enable the advanced options as I like to have as much control as possible over my emulation experience, but I was disappointed. In 128Plus there are many more options and they are all categorized, neatly laid out, and it's fairly clear what each of them do. In CoinOPS you have fewer options but they are all lumped together in what seems like no particular order and some of them aren't even correctly or intuitively labeled (Linear filtering is marked as Anti-aliasing). And on top of that when I first changed a few options to make things the way I like them the whole thing just crashed on me. I also wanted to change the default folders to those that I have my 128Plus ROMs and screenshots stored in. In 128Plus you can set up all the paths via the GUI but in CoinOPS I had to go into the TDATA folder to do this. A lot of the in game options also seem to be missing. For example, if I don't want Start+Select to exit back to the game list there seems to be no way to remap this as there is in 128Plus. I could go on and on about things that are missing and things that others have already mentioned elsewhere, but there's no point because you've stated many times that these things have been omitted intentionally to avoid what you call 'clutter'. Again CoinOPS is clearly not designed for users like me that like to tweak and customize. I'm glad those who enjoy CoinOPS enjoy it and I'm not saying you should change anything but I'll carry on with 128Plus myself as I feel it's a much more faithful port of MAME and it simply looks better and works better for the things I want. Good luck with the project.

Hk vs Coinops, Which do you use the MOST?
+ T + replied to XtecuterX73's topic in XBOX Hacks [/xbox]
I stick with MAMEoX128 Plus myself. The main reason being options, options, and more options. Also I was never really happy with the fact that CoinOPS removed playable games (I'm not sure if this is still the case). Basically I like to set up my emulators and games exactly how I like them and not have it done for me. But I can see how this would be appealing to some. On a side note, I would probably have played around with newer builds of CoinOPS if it's releases were less confusing. I'm still not sure where it's distributed and whether it's as a standalone emulator or a whole package complete with roms. Plus with all the different names (3rd Quarter, Plus, Ignite) it's hard to tell which is the newest. What happened to good old fashioned version numbers?? Just my thoughts since you asked for them. -
Just out of curiousity, what's wrong with Paperboy in MAMEoX128 Plus? I just tried it and it seems to play perfectly fine.

For the first person to be working on a new version of FBA-XXX

This was a problem I always had. With no HDTV it was impossible for me to troubleshoot video problems with the HD settings. That's why these issues went unfixed. -

I really wish I could help out here. I've been following this thread since the start and I'm really excited about this build myself. But performance was never really an issue I had to deal with in any of the builds I worked on since all the supported games ran full speed straight out of the box so to speak. TBH, if anyone knows a thing about awesome fba coding it's iq_132 n the guys over at the Neosource forums and I believe kenshiro is already getting support from there. So this build is definitely in good hands. That being said, if any of the experience I had with the FBA-XXX Pro project can be of use then just let me know.
