  1. All you need to do is add the missing ROMs from the parent set to the decrypted set. Alternatively, if you use RomCenter you can go into preferences and set the ROM structure to 'All ROMs in both sets' and this will create these sets for you. I only use decrypted sets myself and I have no encrypted parents in my game list.
  2. (Set 1) sets are usually the original MVS arcade dumps of the game whereas (Set 2) sets are often AES home or alternate dumps though this is not always the case and it does vary from set to set. Generally if you're only going to keep one ROMset then (Set 1) is probably the one to go for. Decrypted ROMsets are sets that contain pre-decrypted graphics ROMs. This means the emulator does not have to decrypt them during loading which significantly reduces load time compared with the original encrypted parent sets. The other benefit of these sets is that decrypted ROMs compress much better than encrypted ones so your zipped ROMset will take up less space. So to answer your question; to just play Metal Slug 4 you're probably better off using mslug4d.zip unless you don't mind the extra loading time and larger filesize for the sake of using the original unmodified gfx ROMs. Bootlegs are ROMsets dumped from unofficial boards that often have protections removed or sometimes unique protections of their own. In most cases the game itself plays the same unless you're using a hacked bootleg like ms4plus.zip which adds extra 'features' to the game. Hope this helps.
  3. Personally I think the idea of removing support for games (particularly working games) from any emulator is ridiculous. The user always has the option to remove 'clutter' from their own ROMsets by simply deleting the ROMs they do not wish to play. And yes, FBA-XXX can already display all games in a single list.
  4. This was a core issue with FBA at the time of v1.28. A core update will fix it providing it works in the latest PC build.
  5. FBA-XXX already allows you to have all games in the same list. Just go into the UI options and disable all the menus.
  6. I'm not really into all these cut-down MAME builds myself but I thought I'd give my 2 cents on the ROM region issue. Basically the MAME dev team have chosen what they consider to be the definitive version of each game and made that the parent set. The reason US sets are rarely chosen as parents are the occasional addition of some annoying things like the 'winners don't use drugs' screens which are only seen in US variants of certain games. So I think in most cases, if only one ROM variant is to be used, it should be the default parent set since the MAME team definitely know what they're doing here.
  7. BP, I don't think you should have to hand over any of the code you've worked hard on (heaven knows I kept the FBA-XXX Pro code to myself for long enough), and I have no idea what's been said privately between you two guys so maybe I should just keep quiet, but it does make me uncomfortable to see somebody who clearly wants to contribute to the scene being given such a hard time by pretty much everyone. But anyway, you did ask for a vote and so I voted that's all. RX, Emu-tweaker would be more accurate. Much like yourself I saw an existing emu that didn't entirely do everything I wanted it to and so I decided to rejig it slightly to better meet my needs and perhaps the needs of a few other users. Obviously I'd be happy to share anything I've learned that may be of use to you but I have been somewhat spoiled by the FBA code. The only experience I've had with MAME is the old build of MAMEoX I compiled to support the FBA-XXX Pro ROMsets and I found the source a complete nightmare by comparison. I would say BP is definitely the man to go to for any real assistance if he is willing to give it. Oh n I just took had a quick blast on Inferno... as you say it's a fun game. Didn't need any extra code to play with your controls since I'm still using good old MAMEoX128 Plus and they took literally seconds to set up in the UI. I got rid of all my non-working ROMs, clones, and mahjong games ages ago and whenever I start a game I haven't played before I take a few seconds to configure the controls to my liking. I have to admit that from my point of view I really don't see what this Arcades thing is all about but it's great to see so many people enthusiastic about it. Good luck to you both.
  8. If we're still voting I vote B. The Xbox scene is entirely based on a few dedicated people standing on the shoulders of better coders and building on their work. If one more person wants to learn then I don't see any benefit in being obstructive. I dunno about everyone else but I'd rather wait a few more weeks for a release of whatever and have one more developer in the scene since the long-term benefits are far greater for everyone. BP, it seems to me that what you've done with MAMEoX doesn't seem radically different to what I was doing with FBA-XXX Pro. And it really didn't take me very long at all to get to that stage from knowing absolutely nothing. I just got the right help from the right people. But if those people had responded to me the way you've responded to RX then the project never would have happened. We need to keep in mind that none of us are big powerful coders here, we're all just porters and tinkerers and we should be helping each other out as much as possible if we don't want what's left of the scene to die.
  9. lol. That's what I love about the Xbox scene; if you're not coding then you're considered dead.
  10. I know that Metal Slug 2 suffers from slowdown on real NG hardware so this is normal. Not sure about the other games in the series. I've never experienced any noticeable lag that can be attributed to the emulator.
  11. It might save you some time to know that there is already a PMIII skin for FBA-XXX. It's called dEsiGn pmiii, is by Kyo Takagen, and can be found on http://www.allxboxskins.com
  12. Unfortunately the display from FBA-XXX Pro will never be arcade perfect since the Xbox's video resolution is fixed at 640x480, approximately double the native resolution of the Neo-Geo system, so some form of upscaling will always be necessary to have the display fill the screen. The Xbox is incapable of playing these games in their original resolution hence the visible difference between the emulator and real hardware. I don't see how this is related to the sprite effect you describe though. I guess my eyes aren't as good as yours because I've never noticed anything of the sort myself. Try enabling some of the software filters and turning up the flicker filter to see if it makes any difference.
  13. This is an issue with the driver, it's the same in FBA on the PC.
  14. GLiTcH, that's an amazing looking skin. When it's finished would you be at all interested in having it be the FBA-XXX Pro default skin? (with full credit to you of course) Even if not I would still very much like it for my own use if you don't mind.
  15. Thanks for all the reports everyone. The sound glitches in mslugbl are almost certainly an issue with the driver and nobody else is reporting problems with any other games so it would seem to me that, for the time being at least, Pro's sound code should be left as it is. I'll look into this. I really don't know why different HD modes work for some people and not for others. But it seems to be a problem in FBA-XXX just as much as Pro, which would make sense considering there should be no differences at all in the video code of the two builds. The only thing I could really do to address this issue would be to go back to the video code from v1.26 but I think it would be wiser to just wait and see what happens with the official build.
  16. mslugbl uses bootleg sound ROMs so if the parent set is fine then this could just be the way the set sounds. I'll look into correcting that.
  17. It's a bug from FBA-XXX. You need to have your Xbox set to widescreen for HD modes to work.
  18. The story with the sound in FBA-XXX Pro is this; a few builds ago there were some changes to the FBA-XXX sound code. By the time I got around to updating the Pro build some users were reporting sound glitches that were not there before so I decided to leave Pro's sound code as it was. The result was that the official build had sound problems and Pro did not. This is the exact same code that Pro is using now. Now one user is reporting sound glitches in the latest build of Pro that are not in FBA-XXX (which incidentally I cannot hear and Thraxen cannot hear). I could just update the sound code to the code that FBA-XXX is using and the 'problem' would be solved. But what worries me about doing that is the fact that I've seen several reports of sound cracks in the official build when using HD modes. If Pro does not have this issue I do not want to introduce it for the sake of fixing a problem that only one person is having. So what I would like please is some feedback from as many users as possible. First I would like to know if anyone besides bilippe is noticing sound problems in Neo-Geo games. And second I would like to know if this Pro build has the same sound cracks as FBA-XXX when using 720p mode (mvsc and xmvsf were 2 games that were reported to have them.). I don't have an HDTV so I can't test this myself. Based on this info I can decide whether or not to update the sound code in the next build. Thanks alot.
  19. Once again, will you please be more specific. In which games are you hearing sound glitches? You previously reported them in two games which I tested and found had no glitches at all. And then, if I understand correctly, you posted saying you deleted your savegame and everything was fine. I don't have time to go through a list of games testing for glitches so if you are going to report a bug you're going to have to tell me exactly how I can reproduce it. Is anybody else noticing sound problems with any games?

  21. I believe I'll take that advice. I wasn't having much luck with the code anyway. Do you know if any of the PC FBA builds save the XORs. It would be great to add their CRCs to the drivers of all the CPS2 sets that now work with the decryption code. Thanks iq.
  22. Yep, that someone would be me. FBA-XXX Pro has exactly the same support for 128Mb Xboxes as FBA-XXX which as far as I know is pretty good. Other than that I don't know what to tell you having never been near a debug Xbox in my life. Sorry.
  23. Yes that's correct. But my understanding is that if your Xbox is set to widescreen then HD modes should work fine. I'll look into those other issues. As for the question of CPS2 decryption. I'll give it a go though I suspect memory will be the biggest obstacle there.
  24. Thanks for the info. I'll fix those errors for the next build.
  25. I just tried those games with those settings and I have no sound problems at all. Which video mode are you using, HD or non-HD? and PAL or NTSC? Has anyone else been experiencing sound problems that are not present in FBA-XXX? The Pro sourcecode should be identical to FBA-XXX with the exception of some minor preferencial changes to the UI and the drivers. If the community wishes to fix any bugs or add any functionality to this project then it should be to the FBA-XXX source since that is the official build and Pro is just a derivative.
