I think the point BlackKnight is trying to make is that 9 outta 10 Soul Calibur gurus have either neither played or heard of Soul Edge. And most that have didn't do either till someone mentioned Soul Edge. I was fortunate that I've played this series in it's chronological order. And no the game Soul Edge was not in Soul Calibur 3.
