  1. I was supposed to go to a Flogging Molly concert downtown tonight. They're an irish "punk" band that kicks some seriously eclectic ass. (http://www.floggingmolly.com/) Unfortunately, I got sick as flock on tuesday night, and am still recovering, so no show for me. I'm cool with it though, as it's a block party show and, from the news reports, it's like one big idealized frat party in green down there. I've seen the band at better venues than a drunken college-kid filled street. On a side note, in one of those news reports, a drunk guy flipped a bird right in the anchorman's face, and got his hand smacked down pretty damn hard for it. All on camera too as they were segueing back to the news desk. The anchorwoman at the desk was visibly trying to hold back a laugh.
  2. Dang, if it isn't ROTD, I'm just screwed on this. Your game is TOO HARD.
  3. Jae Lee. The scene is from Marvel Nemesis: The Imperfects #1. The characters from the EA side are introduced in the comic before the game, so really if you want to know about the game, you should go read that comic. That interview was severly lacking on any info I wanted to know. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> did he ink it too? whoever inked those panels is my hero now. but I am not exited about the game. I haven't had any hope for it since the licence was announced. and the screens haven't changed anything. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My thoughts exactly.
  4. The Far Cry addon, POP, maybe the Settlers stuff (I heard those games were cool but never played them) and maybe the Might and Magic stuff too.
  5. Wow I suck at this too.. I'm guessing Stikers somethingorother for number 4. And the bonus is almost too obvious
  6. Those are flocking cool! Some of the engrish is a little weird, but the composition definately rocks. Does anyone know where I could get the source art he used for the front cover of Fatal Fury: Real Bout?
  7. Wow, that was a great read. Thanks for that link. I agree with everything said there. Nice to see that Warren Spector was there. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks, I liked it quite a bit too. That whole site is full of interesting things from the GDC, so poke around if you liked that rant.
  8. It's not easy by any means, but it's getting easier, and quite a movement is starting to form even within the industry. Developers know that being owned by big publishing houses hurts their creativity, and very few good developers are in it purely for the money. Here's a really good rant from a panel of pros at the GDC: http://crystaltips.typepad.com/wonderland/...the_house_.html Also, that Wired article deals mostly with 4 or 5 man garage-based operations. Ideally, those guys could do ok too, but in the meantime there's a lot of decent folks between that and the big, oppressive corporations. You would be that guy wouldn't you? Imagine showing up on THAT planet out of the blue one day. hehehe
  9. I heard they got david hyde pierce cast for one of the kniggets. Don't remember where I heard that though.
  10. That's the beauty of this particular design concept though - it solves the largest part of the "funding" problem for people who aren't Will Wright. If an indy developer can dump a large portion of the content creation on to the end users, that could make the game a LOT cheaper to develop. They could use the extra money to persue alternative publishing routes or, if all else fails, they could offer the game to a publisher for a lot less money.
  11. Most of these have already been mentioned, but I'll second a vote for: Final Fantasy Tactics Final Fantasy 9 Suikoden Suikoden II
  12. IF you were referring to my comment: I meant the design idea behind it, rather than the game itself, was what indy developers could rejoice about. The massive wall that indy developers have to get past is volume of content - which is almost always cost prohibitive and is becoming more and more expected by gamers. Wright's idea, which seems to have been borrowed from the "demo" scene he speaks of, is one way indy developers can get past this massive wall. He is owned by EA, but by promoting this idea, he is undermining the foundation of their success. If this idea were put to good use, it could help indy developers to compete with massive, big-budget conglomerates like EA. Having a huge name like Wright's promote this kind of anti-money idea is probably quite the morale boost for smaller developers.
  13. I think he's reffering to.. When you put certain characters next to other cahracters, they "support" that other character in battle. I'm not entirely sure how it works either, I just recently got to that part in the game. GameFAQs?
  14. Mozilla needs to make an instant messaging program with the same philosophies used on firefox and thunderbird. Full-featured, but simple and efficient, with a small footprint and low overhead, and infinetly and easily modifyable through plugins. For that matter, they need to make an mp3 player too, winamp is turning into bloatware.
  15. Why the heck did they port part 4 with part 5 coming out on ps2.. today? Seems a little strange.. If they've added an online component, that would rock. I always thought Dynasty Warriors would make a great massively multiplayer game if tweaked a bit.
  16. Anyone know who the artist is on this image? http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/marvelv...397.html?page=5
  17. friggin' awesome. The game looks neat, and the concept behind it is even cooler. Indy developers rejoice.
  18. The games really don't have much to do with one another, at least not that I've noticed. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Quite the opposite really, it's based on a MASSIVE work of historical fiction, so each iteration of the series is basically the same storyline told with more depth and from more angles. That said, since they each cover at least as many bases as the previous title in the series, you can start anywhere and be just fine.
  19. Music - especially 90's "alternative" and punk. Favorites include Better Than Ezra, Counting Crows, early Dave Matthews, early Unwritten Law, Flogging Molly, etc. I like almost anything except rap and "hip-hop," those just don't appeal to me. Anime and Comic Books/Graphic Novels. I like both a lot, but I'm extremely picky about them. I'm all about alternative media for telling stories, so it's good storytelling I focus on. The only anime I own are Cowboy Bebop, FLCL, and Lain - I would not consider myself an otaku by any means. Mythology and Philosophy. Two things I feel are missing or corrupted in much of today's society. I greatly enjoy both. These tie in with the storytelling focus mentioned earlier. Games of just about every sort - pen & paper, board, card, as well as computer and console. I'm mostly interested in how they work - what makes them fun, etc. I spend more time studying them and experimenting with them than actually playing these days.
  20. a - Advance Wars 2 b - Beyond Good & Evil c - Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn d - The Dig e - E.V.O. f - Final Fantasy II (US) g - Gunstar Heroes h - Hitman: Codename 47 i - Ico j - Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast k - King of Fighters ('97, '98, or '02) l - Lemmings m - Morrowind (Elder Scrolls III) n - Ninja Gaiden o - Ogre Battle p - Primal Rage q - Quake 1 r - Red Orchestra s - Secret of Mana t - Time Crisis 2 u - Unreal Tournament 2004 v - Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution w - Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War x - X-Men (The old arcade beat 'em up) y - You Don't Know Jack z -....? This was tough, especially chosing Morrowind over Megaman 2 or E.V.O., and choosing Time Crisis 2 over Team Fortress (the original!). I couldn't think of any Z's that I'd actually played.. Edit: Agh, I forgot DOOM! Oh well, The Dig stays 'cause I'm not supposed to think about it.
  21. Played and beat Full Throttle, then Maniac Mansion (damn that game is hard), and I'm now working on Day of the Tentacle.
  22. I think a whole lot of stuff I don't need anymore just got haunted by a mysterious benevolent supernatural entity. Good thing I've got an ebay account because I'm no longer comfortable around it. I'm pretty comfortable around money though, especially when it comes from complete suckers.
  23. Well I was hoping it was a hoax, but damn.. That's just sad.
  24. What's the source for this? This sounds like something any lawyer would jump at the chance to become a millionaire on.
  25. I finally got to read one of these the other day and.. well.. I was kind of dissapointed. Some of it was spot on, but a lot of it was junk just like the other mags. I take magazines on an individual reviewer basis now. Game Informer seems to have one of the higher percentages of intelligent reviewers, but even it has its fair share of idiots. Other than that, I just look for the pictures and distill out the well-established factual information and screw the rest.
