They gave Uwe Boll Far Cry AND Hunter: The Reckoning. There is no smilie that expresses my displeasure.

Rampage (the lizard rocks!), King of Fighters 2003, Diablo II, and finally Gran Turismo 4. I'm irritated with GT4 at the moment because of its saving scheme. Even without autosave on, it saves when you switch cars, which means you can't buy a new car without saving. So, if the car you buy isn't as nice as it looked then you're just out however many tens of thousands you spent on it. Or, if you find out there is some fundamental flaw in a $60,000 car that the game didn't bother telling you about, for example, that you CAN'T ACTUALLY RACE IT FOR MONEY.. You're extra-screwed. And it sells for 12K.. Grrr... I haven't tried removing the memory card yet, but I'll give that a shot next.

Microsoft is more of a b**** then I thought
Daeval replied to Lucandrake's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
Why? Isn't it a good thing when developers have as much time as possible to make their game to put as many things in. If Microsoft rushes Bungie and puts a strict release date, they'll have to cut stuff. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Amen. They flocked up Halo 1 enough already, so that you didn't even see most of its advertised features until Halo 2. I'm interested to see what happens with the pc/console 3-step hybrid thing MS is trying to do with XBNext. It looks like a bunch of monopoly-inducing hooey, but it could be interesting. Every generation the "console wars" reaches a fever pitch around launch dates, with every fanboy predicting the death and destruction of heretical systems. Personally, if all three systems have awesome games and succeed financially, I will be a happy man. The important thing is that no single console manufacturer completely push out the others, especially now that MicroSoft is in the mix. -
Touch Screen = Awesome for Adventure Games Too bad no one makes them anymore. Oh, and don't hold your breath for another Marvel vs. Capcom - EA has the Marvel license now.

Best argument ever.

I still say we should ban old english prose. Around here, all the kids are forced to read Romeo and Juliet in high school, and I'm sure a few of them have gone on to kill themselves, loved ones, or members of neighboring families. While we're at it, why don't we ban high school?

I found it mildly amusing, but it would have been better if someone had creamed him (better than the checkout guy did there near the end). It looked partially staged at parts too.. Anyone ever see Trigger Happy TV? I hate "public acts of stupidity" comedy, but that show doesn't normally flock with people in a really malicious way, so it's amusing.

Full Throttle I forgot how cool this game was, and the writing is twice as good as any recent game. I particularly liked "Help me, Ben, you're my only hope." P.S. WTH is brainbread?
-
Yeah, you just remind me to search for this game I am going to get this the legal way. ebay <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, I've got DOTT sitting around for when I'm done with Full Throttle. FT and The Dig were two of my favorites. I also have something called "the journeyman project" that my dad's friend gave to him when I was younger, and I never played it. I think it's an adventure game too. As for getting these the legal way, look for the LucasArts collections. One of them has Full Throttle, The Dig, and Monkey Island 1 & 2 (and Afterlife, but that isn't an adventure game). Another one has Day of the Tentacle (which includes Maniac Mansion), Sam n' Max, and Indiana Jones: Somethingorother. Between the two of them, that's pretty much every old Lucasarts adventure game aside from Grim Fandango.

Well it DID flock up pretty bad the first time I ran it with ScummVM. Not sure entirely why it's decided to work now. Y'know what might look better on your nose?
-
I'm a big fat flocking liar. I tried ScummVM again.. For some reason, it works perfectly..

I realize this is a real stab in the dark, but has anyone gotten lucasart's Full Throttle to work on Windows XP? I did it a few months ago, using VDM Sound, but now I can't get it to work without really crappy sound stuttering. I'm using VDM Sound for Sound Blaster emulation, and had to limit the dos timing to get things to come out at the right speed. That's the only tweak I've made to VDM Sound's standard settings. I also tried playing with the direct x sound accelleration settings, and they seemed to have a very minor effect - but nothing to write home about. I tried ScummVM, to no avail. I'm pretty sure it uses the same sound emulation as VDM Sound anyway. I'm on a P4 2.8, 512MB, SB Audigy Suggestions appreciated! Thanks!

The question then becomes, does he actually have the exclusive legal access that he claims? Seems to me that anyone could be his competition, providing they got the right licenses. Furthermore, his attitude is going to push away existing retrogamers, which means he's going to have to re-forge the "market" for "his product." I can't imagine the target audience will be all that huge if you exclude so many existing retrogamers.

Police seem very taser happy nowadays... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think it's the media, not the police, who are tazer happy these days. Police have been using tazers for a while now, but someone gave the media what looks like a high fatality rate and they've gone slaphappy with unremarkable, but knee-jerk inducing tazer stories since. Our flocking sensationalist media sucks. I've yet to hear of fatality rates compared to the pre-tazer days, of alternative less-than-lethal weapons, or of cases where tazers have actually saved lives or anything like that. In the meantime, I've heard at least two completely inconsequential stories, at least one of which didn't even include the potentially lethal form of tazer use.

No, what I meant for the home version, you can only have one profile per memory card. In VF4 you can have multipile profile for each character per card. Here you have one profile, for all characters per card. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ah, got it. Not gamebreaking, but weak sauce nonetheless.
-
I'm going to assume your "one profile per card" applies only to the arcade? Also, can you use 2 memory cards to pit 2 different people's customized characters against each other? (As you could in VF4 but not in Evo)

That's 'cause Vin Diesel is a hardcore nerd!

This is pretty old but WTF..

Seeing as those comments don't affect anyone but himself, that is mildly amusing. He's not hurting anyone and some of them are kind of funny.

I got a moderate on shizotypal and a low on everything else. The test doesn't seem very scientific or anything though. You can pretty much guess what it's going to tell you as you fill out the questions.

Those little pre-order/collectors edition bonus artbooks always irritate me. 90% of the time, they're just cheap repackagings of the same promo art that's all over the magazines and the web. I seem to remember one of them being good though, I think it was WarCraft III or Soul Calibur 2, don't remember.. The game looks like another solid Tekken. I'm not running out the door to go get it, but I'll pick it up eventually. The new character designs aren't really my cup of tea though. Blade and that other guy (who reminds me of Ripclaw, no matter how hard I try not to let him) aren't terrible, but don't strike me as inspired. Asuka is ok, but only because she's not bad to look at.
-
I'm guessing a lot of that has to do with the beta-status of the game, but only they know for sure I guess. The screenshots look nice.

Is WB the company that's doing the "ratings based pay" system? This looks interesting. We'll see how respectfully they treat it.

My "stepping in" was based on an offensive attitude, marked by unnecessary insults and twisting of arguments, established in post 118 of this thread, and carried through to post 139, being a series of "misunderstandings" and blatantly offensive remarks directed at garageink and his opinions. I was the first to reply directly to said post, prior to any (hereto nonexistant) agreement or truce. My post was in defense of garageink's opinions, which happened to be very similar to my own. I was also irritated by NeoMaster's increasingly flame-like responses, and addressed those in what I feel was a rather reserved way. More baseless insults followed from NeoMaster's end, and attempts to continue the discussion about RPGs were ignored completely in favor of still more offensive behavior. As a result, I have discovered the "ignore" feature of the board, so the problem is solved on my end. Everyone here is old enough to know better than to resort to name-calling and mud-slinging, including you, NeoMaster. Exerting that much self control, when someone's opinions run counter to your own, is your responsibility in public discussion. Until you are willing to accept that responsibility, please make use of the Ignore feature to block my posts as well.

Tie Fighter was freaking awesome. That, X-Wing, and Crimson Skies (PC Version) are the best flight-sim style games I've ever played.
