Well, I did find a ventilation shaft near by... If we're talking about the same spot. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Probably not... Keep going.

I think they're just the old GBA ones.. Since I'm assuming the DS plays GBA games?

Old Games that developers should remake!
Daeval replied to dj_geejay's topic in Other Emulators [/pc/other]
It's not Amiga exactly, but I want a remake of the old GI Joe game on Commodore 64. Best Joe game ever. -
No plans for conscription in the US, huh?
Daeval replied to random guy's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
It already IS that way in California. At least, I know I had to submit my info to selective service when I was 18. That was about 5 years ago. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> no dude, you don't get it see, cause the state govs. in those states in those news pages had ppl giving their selective service info earlier than 18 see. Cause it's required by law to apply for selective service once you turn 18 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ah, I see. My bad. However, it's still not a really good reason to skip to the most extreme conclusion. The armed forces are in bad shape in terms of recruitment right now, and there are steps they can take to resolve that that won't completely destroy the reputation of themselves and anyone in charge. This in itself is not directly harmful, and could be a part of a recruitment scheme that is not as ridiculous as a draft. I'm not any happier with the situation than anyone else in this country, but I'm not going to scream doomsday over something like this. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Even if you're right, targeting 15- and 16- year olds with military advertisements and recruitment drives is morally reprehensible enough in my opinion. It also shows that the military are desperate - meaning even if you're right, they'll be forced to resort to the draft eventually. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Morally reprehensible, yes, but ANY advertising scheme for volunteer service is a hundred times better, at least, than forced enlistment. Also, good luck passing the law that would let kids that age actually serve. Such a campaign would most likely be aimed at improving the image of the military with young people to increase voluntary recruitment as they get older. The military has a crap image now thanks to the actions of Mr. Bush, and a large portion of the personell are low income folks for whom it is one of relatively few options. It's well known that motivated voluntary recruits are considerably more effective than conscripts, and mean less overall recruitment is necessary. Furthermore, even if they are "desperate," there's only so much evidence that the "desparation" will lead to a draft. The pentagon itself has remarked on the ineffectiveness of the draft system with modern military tactics. And that's not to mention the social and political backlash that would obviously arise. There are probably few who would trade political suicide and mass social upheaval for a largely ineffective draft measure. That's probably why they've been shot down every time they've come up. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's definately not going to happen. There is a chance that there will be a draft and in that case I'll see you all in the border waits. However, there is an attitude of paranoid reasoning about everything in the media right now and it's retarted. Let's try to think critically instead of jumping on the sensational media bandwagon. -

Before everyone jumps on the slippery slope, this could just be so they can flood more prospective youngsters with ad pamphlets and calls from recruiters. I used to get those at least once a month when I was a bit younger, but they gave up on me eventually. There's no reason yet to expect they're taking things to the furthest extreme. -
Damn, now I'm really jealous. I don't even care about the DS much, I just want that for my SP. I've got it bookmarked, let me know how the order goes (IE, if it really sucks, if they try to rip you off, etc) and maybe I'll try to nab it after Christmas.

Only if it's at least $200 USD worth of anthrax and/or fingers.

EA has exclusive rights to NFL for 5 years!
Daeval replied to Prican25's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
To be fair, Madden IS by far the most popular football game in terms of raw number of fans, and not for no reason. However, having a permanent and unshakable grasp on the NFL is kind of bad for progress. *crosses fingers for "Mutant League" alternatives* -
That's a pretty sweet deal, Magnis. Hell, my girlfriend wouldn't even buy me a DS, and she was impressed with it at the store. I wish random people from 1emu would send me $200 game systems.

He's right though, they do do the hitler salute, sometimes with BOTH HANDS!!! ..... But shouldn't this be in spam? That's the real conspiracy.

[11/30/04] Capcom Fighting Evolution
Daeval replied to Wizard's topic in 1Emulation.com Reviews [/reviews]
Everyone who says "cut and paste" has to gb2/snk or shouldn't say a thing until they've played it for more then 10 minutes against a level 2 CPU. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, just because the sprites haven't been touched up doesn't mean it's "cut and paste." Yes, most of the characters you've seen before, but it has been play balanced pretty well, etc. Granted, the sprites are really ugly, but If they'd retouched them, I bet no one would be bitching (commence slew of people claiming "yes, I'd still biatch!"). -
TFT? Quien es? And I can only imagine an army of orks under THAT banner. That is something to be feared. I made my Orkz look like crappy late-era ninja turtles toys:

WAHA Banners? You are making less and less sense tonight...

1) Eh, 3D has its upsides. Play Virtua Fighter: Evolution (and actually figure out what you're doing a little bit) and you'll see what it can add. No, 2D shouldn't go anywhere, but 3D isn't worthless either. 2) The difference between a computer AI and an invisible person accross the world is twofold. First, a player opponent is free to try the weird things that computer opponents might not be programmed to try. This is especially true in real time strategy games. Basically, a human has free-will, while an AI has a programmed set of responses (no matter how complex). You then have to deal with this creativity that, when fighting a computer, is only for you to use. Also, a human is ideally working off of skill and their own brainpower, as opposed to an AI, which you know COULD hit you dead on every time, or break your strategy down to a series of logical decisions in an instant, if it was programmed to. The second difference is that humans can communicate with you through text or, recently, speech. For many, this breaks down to pointless bitching/boasting and l33tsp33k. It can, combined with the free-will mentioned above, make for far more interesting games, especially when teamwork is involved. If you're looking for a good place to start online games.. Well, what type of games do you like? I'm not sure about fighters, as I haven't played any of those online. Maybe Kalliera? Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War is an excellent online Real-Time Strategy. For First-Person Shooters, the original Half-Life will get you access to a variety of good "mods," as they're called. Most notably CounterStrike, Deathmatch Classic, TeamFortress Classic, and Day of Defeat. Half Life itself isn't a bad deathmatch game either. Unreal Tournament 2004 is also excellent online, and has a variety of gameplay modes (Onslaught is the most popular) and some good mods (Red Orchestra, Air Buccaneers). That should get you started.

Wild C.A.T.S./Spiderman/X-Men TV shows
Daeval replied to Sturmvogel's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
I've never seen the actual G.I. Joe cartoon, but according to what SA keeps posting about it, it's more than awesome. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> SA? -
HL2.. Not for much longer though, I'm thinking the ending is near. Next in the tube is the Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War single player campaign, or maybe I'll go back and beat Far Cry or Doom III. I have D3 saved in hell, and FC saved a few levels after you meet the more advanced mutants, but haven't beaten either. Of course, none of that until I finish these damn final projects.. back to the grind...

I'm sure I'd use it for good for a while, maybe break down and use it for evil once in a while, and when it or I got old, I'd use it to do just really inane things that no one else can do, but no one really gives a good damn about.

Wild C.A.T.S./Spiderman/X-Men TV shows
Daeval replied to Sturmvogel's topic in Gossip Café [/offtopic]
I watched a few episodes of the spiderman one, and watched the X-Men one religiously until they started getting into all the time travel crap that always kills the x-men for me. Batman the Animated Series (The old Fox ones anyway) was even more awesome. I also watched a lot of Tiny Toons and especially Animaniacs in their respective time periods. As for older cartoons, you all have covered most of them.. TMNT, Ghostbusters, the Nintendo cartoons, Transformers, Thundercats, Silverhawks (!! Props to Chaotica for reminding me of that one), He-Man, Voltron, etc. But, no one has mentioned G.I. Joe yet?! Maybe I'm too old... That show tops my nostalgia list. It had a large cast of relatively fleshed out characters, and on a more recent viewing, could offend just about every group of people under the sun. There was a scene in an earlier episode where people are fistfighting, and someone goes "There's got to be a better way to handle this!" and someone else goes "Yeah," *raises pistol confidently to the screen* "it's called a gun." Mwahahaha.. Try and get THAT on the air these days.. To top it off, it had the best toyline EVER until somewhere in the 90s. I've even checked out the new ones 'cause I loved the old ones so much, and they blow in comparison. -
It might be worth mentioning what brand of PS2/Xbox converter you have? I know I'm interested in these, and knowing I coudl make them work on an XBox would be a selling point. The remaining ones look to be Vega and yeah, probably Evil Ryu (Guile, Sagat, Cammy, and Bison already mentioned). I'll probably wait for Guile and Bison if I decide to get them, though there's somethign appealing about having Ken and Ryu. Damn the ghost of the collector in me. Also, does anyone know if they work with PS2 to PC converters? And how big/thick are they, roughly? Eww, and the control pads are a solid piece.. Anyone know if they roll a half-circle as well as a fighter pad should? Half circles on an X-Box pad, for example, suck. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, the solid piece D-pads are a pain in the arse. Harder to do motions on them. Anything similar to the PS D-pad is good. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Have you used these SF controllers or are you saying this as a (very true) general statement?
-
While both aregreat fun, Melee gets second place becasue the GameCube controller just feels awkward. Funny, it's the same thing with all fighters my friend and I play on the GC. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree that the GC controller is a little weird, but I will never understand how it's any worse than those funky N64 controllers. At least the GC controllers are ergonomic, if a little akward.

SVC, Killed Capcom vs. SNK or made it betta?
Daeval replied to Lucandrake's topic in Arcade Emulators [/pc/arcade]
What was MOTM on? I thought that was CvS1? Anyway, I think it may have made an impact in terms of how much extraneous effort you should put into a Vs. game. It had some really nice and brand spankin' new graphics. As for gameplay.. eh.. It didn't kill anything, but it didn't make it any better, that's for sure. Unless maybe you count Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 as a Vs. game, in which case SVC improved the average gameplay of the series by leaps and bounds. Of the crossover titles, I've only ever played CvS on PS1, CvS2 on PS2, and SvC in the arcades and on XBox. -
The Life Aquatic looks like good stuff. And I can't really begin to imagine Big Fish for kids. That movie was freakin' awesome, and on so many levels. It reminded me of something Neil Gaiman (Sandman, American Gods, Stardust, American script for Mononoke) would write.
-
Haha, that's great. And for those of you who are doubting, criminals have done far more moronic things in the states AND been caught on tape.
-
That would be pretty lame. Competition -> Growth Also, I like a good discussion once in a while. You can get a fanboy's "I love SNK!" anywhere, and it's perfectly valid, but it's nice to have a slightly more thought-out discussion once in a while. You have to go into it knowing full well that it doesn't matter in the long run, but it's refreshing to look at things relatively objectively and hear others thinking that way too. For those of us who are in, or are looking to be a part of, the industry, you can learn a lot from open discussion like this as well. Yes, even with random people on a forum.
