that's why it's important to look at a person's neck sometimes <{POST_SNAPBACK}> A person's neck? Hmm.. didn't think about the apple... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> it hasn't failed me yet, sometimes it's the shoulders and/or face structure <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hands are a dead giveaway most of the time. And yeah, shoulders and brow mostly.

Hmm.. sounds kind of hideous.. Time to go into my legacy SOE tech support mode.. hehehe... First, we gather a little technical information so we can see what we're working with: 1) Go to Start, then Run, and type "dxdiag" (no quotes!), then hit enter and wait for it to finish loading. 2) Click "Save All Information..." on the lower right, and put the file, DXDiag.txt, somplace handy (you'll need it later). 3) Click on the "More Help" tab and then the "MSInfo..." button, and wait for that to load. 4) Make sure "System Summary" is selected in the left hand box, then go to File, then Export on the top menu. 5) Name the file MSInfo.txt and save it in the same place you saved DXDiag.txt. It will take a minute or two to create this file. Once all that's done, close out of all windows and find those two.txt files you saved. These will contain a buttload of information about your system (mine are almost 500K). If you can post those as attachments, or host them somewhere else and link to them, that would be ideal. If not, I suppose you could cut and paste the contents here, but that would be a HUGE post and make it a lot harder to look through. I'll look through them when I get some time and see if I can find the problem. Catch me on aim (if I'm away, just IM me anyway) if you can't host the files somewhere and you can just send them to me direct.

It might be worth mentioning what brand of PS2/Xbox converter you have? I know I'm interested in these, and knowing I coudl make them work on an XBox would be a selling point. The remaining ones look to be Vega and yeah, probably Evil Ryu (Guile, Sagat, Cammy, and Bison already mentioned). I'll probably wait for Guile and Bison if I decide to get them, though there's somethign appealing about having Ken and Ryu. Damn the ghost of the collector in me. Also, does anyone know if they work with PS2 to PC converters? And how big/thick are they, roughly? Eww, and the control pads are a solid piece.. Anyone know if they roll a half-circle as well as a fighter pad should? Half circles on an X-Box pad, for example, suck.

It has Jim Carey and Meryl Streep... Ugh.. Carey I don't mind, except that he never plays a character, just "Jim Carey" in a different outfit (The Grinch, The Riddler, The Mask, the one with the god-powers, at least the previews for this movie). Except in the Truman Show. That's the only thing I've seen him in where he actually played a character. Meryl Streep just bothers me. I'm not entirely sure why. She looks like she's made of plastic and she always plays characters I would want to murder in real life. Not because they're bad or evil or anything, just because they're annoying as hell. If it weren't for those two, I think I'd be rather interested in this. I may read one of the books or something just to check it out. Seems very "ride the Potter wave" to me, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Kids need literature that's a little smarter these days.

We don't have any female regulars, do we? I thought -VIOLENCE- was a really hot chick for a while when I first joined, but I guess not.. (No offense intended if any of you are, but I had no idea)

Compared to traditional fighters, Smash Brothers style gameplay appeals to a much wider audience. The simple-ness and "party" style attracts young or extremely casual gamers, while they usually rely on much-loved characters to hook the hardcore fanboys. Plus, they're party games. With the wireless capability of the DS (and possible WAN wireless play in the future), a party style game has interesting implications. Quite possibly, it will become the only thing nerdier than a bunch of nerds shouting at each other from in front of opposite computers at a LAN. However, it could make the lunch hour that much more entertaining for school age nerds.

This guy obviously has no idea how multimillion dollar corporations work. He's probably as naive and sheltered as his clients. While I wouldn't normally support wal-mart, it's a case of lesser evil at this point. It's one thing for a big company to be jerks for profit, but another thing entirely for an individual family to be complete idiots. It takes a lot less bureaucracy to be decent human beings as a family. I bet they even yelled at the retail clerk. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't think he's naive, but his speech is clearly for naive people (and flocking puritan morons). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have a feeling walmart is going to pwn him in court, in which case he might look a little naive. I'd say "we'll find out," except I'm not likely to pay any attention to this in the future.

Nice background, but that many icons would drive me slowly insane. That said, I've been looking for a way to make a desktop icon that opens a list of other icons (like a menu or even just a folder), and then closes the list/folder/menu/whatever when you select one of the inside icons. Basically, a way to have a shortcut to all my games on my desktop, without cluttering my desktop, etc. Maybe a toolbar? Just thought of that.. will have to look into it.. Suggestions welcome!

I meant as a company, in which case putting only 10 people on a project which could save your most cherished franchises is definately not putting your best into it. And yeah, it appeals to those "hardcore" who love anything 2D, but they didn't take the extra steps to appeal to those "hardcore" that developed around the deeper gameplay in Third Strike and CvS2, etc. The latter is the group that bashed it. For the former, I think they were hoping for something more polished, but the most hardcore of that kind will still be wooed. I remember hearing those things too. I'm sure CFE made it partly because Capcom has some sway. ("Devil May Cry 93 can always go to XBox, you know...") Capcom lost its feel, took a while to get it back, but was able to come up with something new that caught on in the meantime. SFIII didn't really look or feel like any of the other SF games, especially not the then recent Alpha series, but it worked on a smaller scale. The comics and toyline are closer to the original feel, although they haven't tried to move that back into the video game arena yet. SNK is like a bad video game boss. No matter how many times you think its dead, it comes back as some twisted version of its former self. They're still around, and in a lot of ways they are stronger than they were a few years ago, but their identity has changed, for better or worse. A year or two ago, I would have said yeah, they're dead, forget them. They were struggling to keep the properties they had inherited fresh, and were walking a fine line between mutilating the classics and falling too far from the tree. With their recent and upcoming releases (SvC:Chaos, KOF2k3, the PS2 re-releases, NGBC, the new Metal Slugs, SS5, and even the experimental KOF:Neowave and MI), I see them moving forward with a new and far more confident identity, and one that is definately alive and kicking. For a while, they've been a snake stuck in its own dead skin, an akward and at times downright ugly sight, but they're starting to shed it and will come out something slightly different. It will be a new SNK, whether we like it or not. See, that's why I missed you K', you were good for a helluva rant.

They sell it already alchoholized too though.

Well selling two for the price of one is more attractive to the customer than selling just one for the price of one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Rumor has it this was also a requirement by Sony, who was/is trying to discourage 2D. KOF2002 was originally supposed to be a single release, but the rumor is that Sony wouldn't grant them the "official" rights if there weren't two 2D games on the disk. It's fancy 3D graphics that sell to the mass market these days, unfortunately. Just look at the XBox: for a long time, "Halo" and "Better Graphics" (which meant 3D) were its only big draws (I worked retail through that period, unfortunately). And I don't mind the yearly releases, as long as they're quality. Unfortunately, they're not always, but I'm not sure it's just the release schedule to blame. SNK has been going through some major BS for the past.. what, 4 or 5 years? If not longer. That had to have some effect on the overal quality of the series. In my opinion, they're doing a good thing trying something relatively new with NGBC. With any luck, it will be the phoenix from the ashes on Atomiswave that everyone's hoping for, while KOF:Neowave and KOF:MI will just be stepping stones to more, new, and better things. Capcom had the right idea with CFE, but they didn't put enough effort into it to win them any new fans, or to rekindle any old flames really. If they had any interest in keeping 2D fighters alive, that's what they had to do, but I don't really think "they" did (they being marketing, primarily). However, there was talk of a Capcom vs. Sammy game in the works not too long ago, and I haven't heard anything about a cancellation, so who knows?

It's a spiced milk (?) drink, normally imbibed during the holidays, and often including deceptive amounts of alchohol.

Alright, this is a crosspost, but this seems the better place for it: Also, Guild communication hasn't really been established yet. Maybe each (established) guild could get its own thread, which others couldn't view and which wouldn't count for credits? This way, things like decalring war could be talked out by a guild in private before someone bursts out. Just an idea. Oh yeah, and the guild insignia under the avatar should be high priority, as with the current guild bickering going on, it's getting harder to keep track of what's up with who.

Damn, why have'nt I thought of that? Although it's pretty much the same as grabbing one of those annoying electric orbs and launching them one by one down a ravine. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did the electric orb things scream silently on the way down in your head too? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It did. Now that's scary. + It was really annoying when they attached to your buggy and threw it around if you werent careful. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I treated them like a flat tire - find the first less busy spot, pull off to the side of the road, yank it off and launch it a few hundred feet over a cliff. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Likewise, and it works like a charm. ... Except that one time when they busted throught the roof of a house i was scoping out. Glad there was a cliff nearby. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ah yeah, that was kinda neat. I wasn't expecting to be surprised by those of all things. Although I realized there is absolutely no good reason to waste your ammo on about 80% of those little settlements. I liked it anyway just for atmosphere. Anyone else hate the black headcrabs? Those things take WAY more shots than a headcrab has any business taking. And Agoz, when you get to the part with the three turrets, let me know how you get through it. You get no details for now.

Did the electric orb things scream silently on the way down in your head too?

Yeah, that's rarely the best way to start. You'll want to try turning the various graphics detail options down. Also, turning off the hardware 3D options in sound can make things run smoother if you have the option in wc3. Beyond that, try checking the WC3 support forums and stuff. It sounds like something that more people have probably experienced. Things like this tend to pop up and get hammered down again pretty quickly by decent tech support.

Amen. I was confused at first too. Also, there should be a running log of attacks, at least for longer than the few hours an attack lasts. I also like the idea of attack money as rewards for tourneys and stuff. As others have suggested, this could be incorporated into the arcade, and (I like this especially) in online gaming stuff. It wouldn't have to be just guilds either. I think this would draw more participation in both the forum and in our various "extra cirricular" type stuff in the community.

I don't use it much anymore, but I have a Minidisc MP3 player I got real cheap (about $100 for a 200+ unit) when I worked for Sony. The media is small, cheap, durable, reusable, and can hold a little over 2 average CDs worth of music at CD quality. It's not one of the annoying ones you have to record in real-time either, although you can do that if you want. It burns an entire minidisc in 5-10 minutes. I'd still use it, but I need new headphones or a way to clip it (or at least the headphone remote) somewhere convinient on my backpack.

Looks like it's going to be good stuff. Did you mean you are going to put consoles in it, rather than a computer + emulators? (although I understand you'd have that option) If so, what kind of console/s? You'll have to post specs/pics/etc when you get around to it.

Since we're doing status reports, I'm working my way toward the (This is a spoiler if you're kinda dimwitted!) citadel. Human squadmates are a pain in the arse - they like to stand on grenades, or right behind you when you're trying to backpedal off of one. I think it's just the combination of tight spaces, lots of friendlies, and grenade happy enemies. The bugs, however, kick ass. I'd ditch the filthy warmbloods in a second to have them back. And I love manhacks now that I have the grav gun, there's nothing more satisfying than nabbing them out of the air and slamming them against a wall, one after another, like frogs on a truck bumper.

all the older pics are hosted on angelcrap and are dead anyway :\

Wait wait.. you said he didn't know anything, but he knows enough to share your drives to nab stuff over a network? That's not nothing... It's also a helluva security risk if you run a constant connection, like a cable modem, etc. Tell your folks he's going to give away their credit card information. Hmm... Well does your account have access to network share properties? If not, you could at least find out if he's using the admin account or something else entirely.
