i have the winxp patch and it just stays black

I have the patch and when i run it the screen just stays black....any help is greatly aprreciated

The mugen runs but it has lines across the screen, like split into lil parts and then when i get out of it, my desktop is all messed up, any help?

I downloaded the XP patch and installed it fine, then when it runs the game i get the cant change video modes error so i click y and i get the "you need VESA drivers to run mugen" error message, can anyone PLLZZZZ help im dyin to play
