OK, some progress has been made since this thread was started. HBMAME is fully legal, no issues, it will continue, next release most likely be 0.173 MAMEUI is fully legal, I hope that 0.172 can exist, but not sure at this stage due to other matters. HBMAMEUI is just MAMEUI grafted onto HBMAME. MESSUI is fully legal, but due to a number of recent horrible bugs (particularly on the 64 bit version), it is suspended indefinitely. NEWUI is fine, and will continue to be included in all my builds.
-
http://mamedev.org/?p=423 MAMEdev have specifically targetted MESSUI and MAMEUI in an effort to stamp them out unless they conform to new legality requirements. This applies to all other derivative builds as well, such as MAME Plus!, MAME4ALL, MAMEUIFX, Coinops, etc. So, starting from now, there will no longer be any public release of MESSUI, MAMEUI, MAMEUIFX and HBMAMEUI. Whether other authors do or do not stop work, is unknown. MAME Plus! already died, so anything based on that is already ended. A sad day. Maybe it's time to try out FBA. EDIT: not quite as bad as first thought. Some of us got together and the legal issues for MAMEUI, HBMAMEUI and MESSUI have been solved. However due to different reasons there may not be a release for a while. MAMEUIFX is well on the way to legality, and there should be a 0.172 release.

It works for me, mostly, but sometimes it just closes randomly when you're doing anything. I'm aware of it, but nothing I can do about it right now.

I was curious to see if there was anyone I recognise. However if you can tell me what to click, then I can see for myself.

Thanks for that. If you can only see 7, then I won't see anything.

It says 194 likes, is there a way to find out who likes us? Or do you need to be logged in? (I don't have an account).
-
What do you mean by 'distorted'? Can you provide before and after examples? The AVI format itself has limitations you should be aware of, for example if the screen size or resolution changes it can't handle it. Try also by using MAME from http://mamedev.org/release.html , does it have the same problems? It was suggested to use the -snapsize option to stabilise things. Let us know.
-
Oh, also, can you let that Danuar Blander guy know that his account has been approved? Thanks.

Alpha promised us a party a year ago when we reached 100 likes. I'm still waiting for that party...

Yes, Microsoft dropped Direct Draw support in Windows 8. Despite all the complaints (do a search), they have no interest in doing anything about it. There is a "software" option if you enable it in the registry, but seems it is incredibly slow.

Aha, thanks for letting me know. I'm having quite a bit of trouble with MESSUI crashing randomly since the new tools have been used. At this stage I won't be able to release a new version. MAMEUI is fine, no problems with that.
-
That didn't happen to me. I've fixed the issue with the software item path, turned out it only broke if the path was > 15 characters, and I'm sure it's a bug with the new compiling tools. At the moment I'm having trouble with certain Microbee clones crashing at start, but everything else seems ok. Welcome AntoPisa, good to see you here. Can you give a specific example?

I had heard of this problem, but in final testing it appeared to be working ok. I can implement a patch for the next version. Thanks for reporting it. In the meantime, you can manually adjust the setting by opening the game's ini file (located in the ini folder), and adjusting the 'comment_path' (it might be 'comment_directory').
