What link? I got mine from AntoPisa's site, and I placed the zip files into the SNAP folder. (7z files don't work). Then when you click on an item in the software list, the snap will show. It also works for Cabs,Titles,etc. If there is no snap for that game, it will show the snap for the system instead.

Those things sound like problems within MAME/MESS itself, rather than any doing of the MESSUI frontend. I would suggest you discuss the problems with knowledgeable individuals at the bannister forum, and if the others there agree, log them at mametesters.
