Very true. However, for the record, I tried NRX 0.6b, 4.5, 5.4 with whatever kof2001 sets they found, and it worked fine. You will need to do a bit of googling my friend. But the better idea would be to use MAME, winkawaks, FBA or Nebula to play without any hassles.
