I have the same chipset, but with RealTek '97 onboard audio. I can tell you that it's good, but the only thing you need to make sure is that you download the latest VIA Hyperion 4-in-1 driver for it.

EDIT: My mobo is an EPoX.

Well you can use any type of DDR ram in that motherboard. Just make sure you look around and make sure certain rom modules are fully compatible with your motherboard, sometimes they aren't.

K gotcha. Next moving onto CPU PRocessor. I'm thinking of this one, how do I know if its comptabile with the mobo that I linked earlier? Also what do you guys think of it?

either this

or this

you guys will probably say th 2nd one but is it really worth buying that expensive cpu?

Both of those CPUs will fit in your motherboard since it allows 939 pin (which is what the second processor is).

You know, I'd just go with the first one since it's $100 cheaper and I don't think you'll notice any difference. Those chips are pretty much identical. Check the table on this page and you'll know what I'm talking about: http://www.hothardware.com/viewarticle.cfm...cleid=531&cid=1

Hopefully K'dash sees this and gives a second opinion since he knows about these processors aswell.

In my opinion, cheaper solution is better. I really don't see why people want the higher end CPUs because they are mearly just flagship holders for the company. Sure they hold higher specifications, but just watch, 6 months later, it's going to get demoted down to Athlon 64 4800+ (Which is AMD does now with their FX5X series. This practice is similiar to Intel's Celeron's, execpt these cores aren't damage).

As for me, I'm thinking of getting a 3400+ for the old 754 boardie over here.

I agree, go for the cheaper CPU.

I would also suggest checking out Sharky's Extreme

computer reviews. They do a nifty column where they piece together a value gaming computer system every month. I built mine by following their guide for mobo and cpu. (check out the buyer's guide section on the right side). They work on a strict budget, and buy every part of a new system, which almost no one needs, but its still a good jumping off point.
