Cominus
mmm 1500 bucks are not that much, it depedns on what would you like to use the computer for but it goes like this, if what you need is portability and/or something that doesn't take muc space go for a laptop, if you are after power you for a desktop, even when it oculd be accomplished, laptops are not for gaming they were thought for a totally different thing and you should get a decent brand new laptop for about 700/800 dollars, but then again it depends on what you are looking for<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Here's what I'm looking for in a computer Alexis: 2.8mhz processor or higher512mb of RAM installedGraphics Card- a low end ATI will doDVD+-RW/CD-RW Combo And the fact that I will have cheap wireless LAN at school makes me lean toward a laptop. And you won't find one with the specs I listed for $700-800. I'm in this for the long haul as well.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can't find a cheap one and have a friend install stuff that you bought seperate to save on price? OverlordMondo
A few things. First, wireless internet is hellspawn. Unless you're a satanist, you WILL find a way to get cable into your home. Second, building a PC isn't that hard. I did it myself, only took a few months. (would've been less if I had been more active in seeking help) Third, yes, AMD is good. Sturmvogel
Thanks for looking Alexis....I already ordered one of the Acer laptops. Those Dells you posted look decent. There is some important info missing that I'd want to know for those Dells if I were gonna buy one. First, a bit more detail on the wireless LAN. Does it support 802.11 b/g and what's the weight. Also, I'm pretty sure I didn't see a DVD burner on the two Dell's. And Lastly, the hardrive is a tad small.
Wizard
Acer makes some good laptops(AMD ones especially!) and some good customer service. They fixed my father's laptop's keyboard.

Gryph
^^^ That thing is the complete own. But the battery usage is what would keep me from getting a laptop that awesome. And the fact I would never do work on it...
