Mag Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Damn, I rebooted the computer just many times, and now it gave me this errror on startup Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:<Windows root>\system32\hal.dllPlease re-install a copy of the above file. I got the hal.dll, and have it place in a floppy, but it doesn't seem to boot from it, even when I set it as first priority. Any help is appreciated
Robert Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 I know you're the boss here, but why make two threads? Anyway I'm a bit confused here (need much more info) What OS?What doesn't boot from what? What file system? If safe mode doesn't work,Restore disk time by the sound of it. Is the floppy a bootable floppy?
Mag Posted January 11, 2005 Author Posted January 11, 2005 didn't see that coming anywho.. I trid to resolve problem by just editing the boot.ini file but I can't even enter of safe mode. The same error occurs no matter what, and I hate to reinstall the OS -Window XP Pro SP1-hal.ll prevents you from booting to desktop
montpics Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Can't help much but assuming you have no other choices at the moment. Had the same similar problem but had to reinstall it in the end. (Not my PC, my friend's.) But luckilly I had several OS'es on my PC whenever the same problems occured, I can back up the files and then try to reinstalled it.
i l l m a t i c Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 have u tried manually replacing the file? or you can prolly fix it by using the windows xp cd and check if it asks "repair the following OS" or something like that....it should be right b4 u do a clean install..
Robert Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 The only thing I can suggest is to boot off your XPinstall CD. I will offer a repair option. Try it.
