The latest issue of hot Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu reveals that over 200 NES and SNES as well as N64 games will be available at the Nintendo Revolution’s (the code-name for Nintendo next-generation home console) launch, via download, for free.

The list includes everything from NES games to SNES games to even Nintendo 64 games. Supposedly, rumor has it that GameCube games could show up as downloadable games as well, though we’re unsure how that could work with such a small 512 MB memory capacity.

This is a great line-up, but does anyone notice that most of the games were made by Nintendo? Also, how much do you think it will cost for each game depending on its system? :P

Well yeah, since they own the rights to them they can do whatever they want with it. If a game is by a third party, they'd have to pay royalty everytime the game is downloaded.

Pricing...I'm hoping for a iTunes like service. Also, it would be cool if they gave away a few games to entice customers to buy the system and/or the games. I know a lot of people would love to play A LOT of those games again in a legal way, myself included. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo did an all out assault against ROM sites (and rightfully so) when this service goes live.

Also, this isn't an official list. People are just making up lists that they think is right. I think that list you quoted is from IGN.

I actually heard somewhere that the nintendo owned stuff will be free... that'd be quite revolutionary :) As for stuff owned by other companies, that'll probably be a different story.

Yeah, I read that too but I'm still treating that as a real far out rumor. The place where I read it (and first reported it I think) didn't have any sources.

EDIT: Hmm...I just read this quote by Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo VP of Corporate Affairs:

"For Revolution and accessing older games, we haven't finalized how we will structure it yet. It is possible that players will enjoy these games without a charge from Nintendo, or there may be some pay structure for accessing the actual product. We haven't finalized it yet. Our goal is to make it as easy and inexpensive as possible, which could be free."
