The government announced Thursday an 11-nation crackdown on Internet piracy organizations responsible for stealing copies of the latest "Star Wars" film and other movies, games and software programs worth at least $50 million.

FBI agents and investigators in the other nations conducted 90 searches, starting Wednesday, arresting four people, seizing hundreds of computers and shutting down at least eight major online distribution servers for pirated works.

These groups have been shut down:

RiSCISO, Myth, TDA, LND, Goodfellaz, Hoodlum, Vengeance, Centropy, Wasted Time, Paranoid, Corrupt, Gamerz, AdmitONE, Hellbound, KGS, BBX, KHG, NOX, NFR, CDZ, TUN and BHP.

Owned.

Unfortunately, the feds don't realize that by next week some warez crews will pop up to take over those guys. They might slow it down, but they're kidding themselves if they think they can eradicate it.

I found this amusing.

President Bush signed a new law last month setting tough penalties of up to 10 years in prison for anyone caught distributing a movie or song before its commercial release

I don't think Bush should sign anything dealing with the Internet when he calls it the Internets. :P

Just because they say they nabbed these groups, doesn't mean they have. There isn't just one or 2 people involved in these groups.

And harsher penalties for distrubing something before it's commercial release? WTF does it matter? Anyone grabbing it beforehand DEFINITELY wasn't going to buy it in the first place. When are these idiots going to learn, and just leave people alone?

If I pirate something, I A: Want to see if it is worth my money before I go buying it, DEMOS are NOT long enough nor indicative of whole gameplay, PERIOD. B: Wasn't going to buy it in the first place because I don't have enough interest, but still wanted to give it a try.

This is just going to drive this further underground, where they can't catch the real thieves........the bastards SELLING pirated stuff.

What really bugs me about this is that these guys could get longer jail sentences than molesters and corporate flocktards that bilk everyone out of their live savings.

I thought piracy was the act of selling to make a profit w/out consent and or paying royalties to those who hold the copyright instead of distribution in general :s
