do you have the option for displaying hidden folders set to enabled? if so, there are some folders in the windows directory that have back ups of important system filese

 

on one of mine I found regedit.exe

 

check yours

Regedit.com sounds like a virus to me...last I checked regedit was just regedit.exe always has been...don't remember a.com version except maybe back in win95/98 days

COM files are a thing of the past, and the only thing that still uses it nowadays is the Commandline Interpreter (Comman.com). COMs were widely used back in the day when DOS was "the" OS.

 

Like most people said already, if you spot a COM file in your computer, it's most likely a virus (although there are exceptions).
