VBA 1.5.4 keeps mucking up my games

i like to play Pokemon emerald and DBZ buus fury on VBA 1.5.4 but when i get to the 8 gym in pokemon and using kid trunks to search for the dragon balls the timeline in the game mucks up ans i can't talk to any one or go through doors is there a fix for this or a new version coming out?

Besides, 1.5.4 is even older than the last "official" VBA build.
