Alpha
Have you ever dream of 100 terabyte of data per 3.5-inch disk? New patented innovation nanotechnology from Michael E. Thomas, president of Colossal Storage Corporation, makes it real. Michael invented and patented the world's first and only concept for non-contact UV photon induced electric field poling of ferroelectric non-linear photonic bandgap crystals, which offers the possibility of controlling and manipulating light within a UV/Deep Blue frequency of 1 nm to 400 nm. It took him 14 years to find a practical conceptualization that would work to advance the storage industry; 3D Volume Holographic Optical Storage Nanotechnology, for which Michael holds the patents. He was invited to present this fascinating discovery to the National Science Foundation in February 2004.»» http://www.physorg.com/news785.html I think Sony may ditch their *prized* blue ray discs if they take a look at this. PS: This makes GameCube look like a toaster since the discs appear the same size.
Robert
How reliable, I wonder. Still, a slight improvement in capacity over a 3 1/2" floppy disk.

CJ Jackson
Nanotechnology - can be used to make a more powerful computer. so I guess advanced gaming is on it way
BlackKnight
Wonder what the price point for something like that, let alone the media it uses. Seems like it wont be cheap enough to be practical for a long time yet.

ken_cinder
That and with the speed of today's computers, it would only take......oh 10 years to write 100PB of data to one disc.
Shibathedog
This is really old news, theres actually a few companies working on this, 3D Optical media or whatever they are dubbing it now. If you want ill come pack with pictures of the actual product. Its like these psycadelic looking yellow disc things, pretty sweet. Heres a problem though, You scratch a disc down, and you get read errors, or a song or two wont work, you scratch that disc and its- DAMNIT! THERE GOES 200GB OF DATA!
