Nintendo said something along the lines of not wanting to design a new controller that people would have to get used to, so instead they used the design of something most people should already be used to.

It's the same principle as various "fishing controllers" which have come before and failed, but now since Nintendo is doing it the idea will now be considered innovative and revolutionary!! Woo hoo!!!

 

Anyway, I'll give Nintendo credit... it takes some balls to make this your primary controller and not an accessory controller.

 

It's also reportedly supposed to have a more normal controller shell that that thing will fit into, but they haven't revealed it yet. If the shell is good this idea does have potential, but I'm still skeptical overall.
