garyoak99
The history of flamethrowers include ancient continuous flamethrowers used by the Chinese. They were not meant to be turned directly on people but their main purpose was to destroy wooden ships. Flamethrowers have been reportedly in use since the 5th century B.C. The first modern flamethrower was developed in 1900 by the Germans. Then it was used by the Germans in 1914 but its use was so limited it was not even reported at the time. The first notable use of the modern flamethrower was in 1915 against the British. During the war it was used mostly to clear local trenches because of its limited range. If you truly wish to burn enemy personnel; I highly recommend the M202A1. Its range is certainly greater than any conventional flame thrower and it is lighter than the M9A1 Bazooka. Therefore, flamethrowers weren't and aren't meant to burn people but ships and to inspire fear more than anything else. These facts contradict the signature of Elazul Yagami. Does anyone else have anything to add or correct me about anti-personnel incendiary weapons? Edited January 25, 2006 by garyoak99
