Just wanted to know if anyone has any knowlege on this. I'm trying to network three laptops together. Did some searching, as this is probably a common question, but I haven't found anything. Thanks..

Several ways to do this:

1. get an add-on network card for one of the laptops and 2 crossover cables.

2. get a router.

3. get a hub.

Hubs are far more simple, but routers are more usefl.

Meh...we sort of figured it out. I really only needed to network two laptops. Just a matter of disabling DCHP...and manually setting the ip. Then used my crossover cable.

the only advantage to a hub over a crossover is if you need to add more later you can

and a router is basically a hub and a...uhh...something else combined, its 2AM gimme a break, so it would just be wasting extra money to buy a router for this purpose

My cheap router has only 4 inputs, but it works and it's been fit as a fiddle for over year (even after being accidently stepped on many times, and my brother kicking it once during a hissy-fit). What do I do when all 4 inputs have been occupied? Break out the hub!

Although, for the thousandth time, you'd only really need a hub if your ISP sends you a modem with a hardware-based firewall (which acts like a router and gives more than one LAN ip address).
