The category five cyclone caused widespread damage to buildings and vegetation when it hit the coast this morning, carrying winds of up to 290kph. About half the buildings in Innisfail - a town of 8000 about 100km south of Cairns - were damaged in the cyclone while banana and sugar cane crops in the area were devastated. Banana crops worth an estimated $300 million have been destroyed and 4,000 people left out of work. 6 inches of rain in 3 hours. In the town of Innisfail, 50% of houses are damaged or destroyed. A lot of it can be mere coincidence. I'm sure the Mayans have been wrong on some accounts. It was the same as Nostrodamus; sure he predicted that 9/11 would happen, but hell, a whole hell of a lot of his predictions were way off...
