Oh yeah, that crappy desktop... That's weird to say the least. When did this happen? Reboot doesn't help? How about reinstalling your graphics card drivers.

 

Search the net, there are several tweak sites that tell you how to change the actual bitdepth of the desktop and how to enable/disable the build information.

Remove Windows Version from Desktop

1.Click on "Start", then "Run.." and type "regedit".

 

2.Navigate to the registry key: <br>"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop".

 

3.Once there, locate the DWORD value "PaintDesktopVersion".

 

4.Right click on it and select Modify.

 

"0" removes Windows version from desktop.

 

"1" adds  Windows version to desktop.

 

Reboot

 

 

Also a program called TweakNow PowerPack 2006 can remove or add desktop version .

ah okay, well im kinda a n00b at Windows 2000 so i didnt know if some of those apps where XP only, Thanks ;)

 

and its always been like that since i installed the OS, and its a barely week old install

Wait... you just installed Windows 2000? Why not XP? ;)

XP kept crashing on this computer because the mobo is fried

 

With Windows 2000 i can run anything but games, as soon as i try and open CS/UT2k4/Painkiller/whatever it crashes

 

whenever i get a new mobo off ebay ill probably put XP on it
