Renzor
oh i dint notice the opterons are they better than the fx? they look the same i heard the fx overheats too much when u overclock it.
NeuronMaster
From what I know, opteron is better than FX.But IIRC Core 2 Duo beats them both out--just do a search on tom's hardware.AMD is better than Intel if you're getting a single core chip, but for dual cores, right now Intel is the leader. And if overclocking is a priority, get either an e4300 or an e 6300 core 2 duo.http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/14/cor..._64/page18.html "First of all let me sort the facts: As soon as Core 2 Duo hits the market, it will... be the fastest x86 processor (both single and dual core models) make the Pentium D and all predecessors look like antiques be the clear choice for performance users despite its rather expensive price outperform the complete Athlon 64 family (X2 and FX) in all areas, including gaming, where AMD has traditionally been very strong consume less energy than other standard desktop processors transform the whole Intel platform from an energy-hungry beast to a reasonable solution that is competitive in terms of performance per Watt" older article, but nothing has changed. Shibathedog
Core 2 Duo is by far the best choice right now, for games, for video encoding, for everything. they overclock real well too, and arent too expensive.
NeuronMaster
Exactly what I've been saying. And that's why I'm running a Core 2 Duo with a Tuniq Tower cooler right now.Gonna overclock the jesus out of this thing.
Rag
I've always been too nervous to overclock. Does it really affect performance that much?
Jitway
Overclocking is great as long as you have sufficient cooling. It does allow for improved performance. You can get a lot out of certain chips in overclocking some better then others. But you need to keep it cool or it will either not boot up or it will fry. Been there done that...lol. Shibathedog
i would reccomend the E6400, but if you can afford it get the E6600. Dont bother with the super top of the line processors because you can reach that performance with overclocking. but Toms Hardware has a good guide on how to overclock the super cheap Core 2 Duo for great performance. (thats also a really good motherboard, i would get that motherboard even if you dont plan to do this) http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/18/ove...g-guide-part-1/
