ME! Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 a frontend is a "gui", or, a general user interface. it would be added to a command line based program to make it easier to use.
MarkT2256 Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 yeah for example MAME is a command line program and you can use frontends instead of using the command line if it is too hard for you.
nicknicknickandnick Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 In case you are not familiar with "command line", that has to do with how computing was done on PCs before Windows. You used MS-DOS which shows C:>_and you type commands there.A front-end is an extra program to make it simpler to use an MS-DOSprogram. With a front-end, you can get windows with menus and other helpful interface stuff when you use the program.
hairytash Posted July 18, 2003 Posted July 18, 2003 But the term is also used to describe a launcher program (Nestea for example) which can list the roms in a given directory, show a screenshot and launch an emulator with the rom ready loaded.Or the term can be applied to a truly amazing program like thishttp://3darcade.mameworld.net/index2.htm
