a frontend is a "gui", or, a general user interface. it would be added to a command line based program to make it easier to use.

yeah for example MAME is a command line program and you can use frontends instead of using the command line if it is too hard for you.

In case you are not familiar with "command line", that has to do with how computing was done on PCs before Windows. You used MS-DOS which shows C:>_

and you type commands there.

A front-end is an extra program to make it simpler to use an MS-DOS

program. With a front-end, you can get windows with menus and other helpful interface stuff when you use the program.

Ahem I'd just like to correct ME!.

GUI = Graphic User Interface

(Cause I'm a pain in the @$$ like that, and I like others to know the truth :wink: )
