Mooney
So right now I have a Powercolor Radeon X1600 PRO (PCI-E, 512MB) video card. Today when I was looking at some specs, I noticed the ATI Radeon X1800XT is significantly better. So my question: Is it worth it to upgrade? Here is some info I found: Core Type- X1600 PRO: RV530- X1800XT: R520 Die Process- X1600 PRO: 90nm- X1800XT: 90nm Clocks (MHz) (Core/RAM)- X1600 PRO: 500/390- X1800XT: 625/750 Core Config- X1600 PRO: 4:12:4:5- X1800XT: 16:16:16:8 MTex/s- X1600 PRO: 2,000- X1800XT: 10,000 MTri/s- X1600 PRO: 625- X1800XT: 1,250 Memory Interface- X1600 PRO: 128-bit- X1800XT: 256-bit Memory Bandwidth- X1600 PRO: 12.5 GB/s- X1800XT: 48.0 GB/sOf course, If I decide to go through with the upgrade, my X1600 PRO will be up for sale immediately. Gryph
What do you think would be the total cost of this upgrade (as in price of X1800 minus the price of the x1600)? If the price isn't much then yeah go for it. If not, then save up and get a much better one.
Mooney
Well, it looks like I could get a Connect3D Radeon X1800XT for around $250, so if I can sell my current gfx card for about $150, I'll only need $100.
ken_cinder
Given that on average (From what I can see) you could pick up a retail x1600 Pro (ATi brand) for 1/3 what a x1800XT goes for, it's certainly a waste of money. This is precisely why I'm going with dual x1600 Pros, which will set me back roughly $200 + shipping. 1 X1800XT would set me back roughly $300.......
