Alpha Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I'm downloading the latest Ubuntu release as I type this post. Has anyone tried it out yet? I'd like to know what people think about it. http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
Weirdy Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I thought it was pretty good, but still bloated (bluetooth, server utilities, etc). I like how I don't have to install in text mode then install the ati drivers after installing (they come out of the box). Openoffice was screwed up though. I had to install it manually to get it to work.

The operating system runs slow as hell, but I manage to just ignore it.

It automatically loaded the open source ati drivers for me, but I can use the proprietary drivers through the restricted devices manager thingie. If your nVidia card is compatible with nouveau, then those drivers will be loaded and you can load the proprietary drivers through the aforementioned restricted device manager. I don't know what you're doing to get it running slow. It's been responsive for me and I didn't even do any tweaks (yet). Here's a collection of tutorials to tweak ubuntu. Many of those tweaks also work with other distros.
