BlackKnight
Good news but... $499USD is still a sh.tload of money. Also I think the Australian price will still be closer to $599USD even if they do cut it :/
olaf
You say "finally"... but it's like the fastest price cut in the history of video game consoles... 8 months -- 100 dollars.

Alpha
Bah humbug! $100 price drop for 20GB less .... who would want the 80GB PS3 for $100 more?
Wizard
another example of sony's loyalty towards their consumers.Loyalty? They did it because it wasn't selling en masses as it was expected, also the harsh critism against it's initial price, including when Ken Kutaragi previously mentioned when first released that the price "was not high enough." If anything this is a way to get rid of stock and earn a profit on a machine that literally broke the Sony Hype Machine. If anything, Sony really needs to get their act together this generation considering the offering we've seen from both Nintendo & Microsoft already. Loss of certain exclusive titles and internal power struggles within Sony are to blame for this.
Lucandrake
This is still, a lot of money, for a machine that grills better then plays games. Honestly, due to the huge amount of releases coming out this fall, if given the choice of getting a new system, I'd get a 360 Elite, or a Wii. It's still overpriced, and now it's overpriced and lacking exclusives (I can live without FFXIII and MGSIV).
Mooney
Meh. Still gonna get a Wii instead of this.
JKKDARK
the 80gb model will not get the emotion engine, so goodbye to the PS2 games
GodPigeon
Meh. Still gonna get a Wii instead of this.Wii is still till this day the best choice of the three. Even with the damn price cuts, they are too expensive and relying on ports and sequels for sales. No originality. Well except Guitar Hero 2. i <3 that Game. Althought im getting the 360 =]
Agozer
the 80gb model will not get the emotion engine, so goodbye to the PS2 gamesNot really, just less compatible and compatibility improves with firmware updates. Removing the Emotion Engine from the PAL PS3 was already a desperate move from Sony to cut the price of the PS3, seeing as the retail price inflated when sold in Europe.
